Nestled along Highway 1 near the Potomac River, Potomac West is a bustling neighborhood with unbeatable access to historic Downtown Alexandria. Potomac West’s residential streets are lined with upscale, longstanding homes and luxury apartments available for rent. Because of the neighborhood’s central location, rent tends to be at a higher price point, but there are affordable housing options in the area as well. Potomac Yard Center sits across Highway 1 and features several department stores, retailers, and grocers, with more dining and shopping options available throughout the area. Along Mount Vernon Avenue you’ll find charming, locally owned restaurants, cafés, specialty shops, and a farmers market. Several subway stations help commuters get to and from their destinations, with the most popular locale being Washington, DC, located just seven miles north of Potomac West.

Property Ratings at Glebe House Apartments
I have lived at Glebe House Apartments for the past 4 years. The management is EXCELLENT - they are kind, respectful, and very responsive to maintenance requests and any problems you may have with your unit. The apartment units themselves are on the older side but are very clean. The location of the apartment is very solid, as it is within walking distance to Potomac Yard and Del Rey, and within a short drive or bus-ride to Crystal City, Pentagon City, and Old-town Alexandria. The no-cost perks are also outstanding (free surface lot parking spot, free cable TV, no utilities fee). The ONLY downsides I can complain about after 4 years are that it can be difficult at times to find an open washing machine (especially on Sundays), and it can be difficult to find a parking spot after 10pm. Overall though, you simply will NOT find a better apartment for the price in the area.
It has been an absolute pleasure staying at the Glebe House Apartments. I had a great, seamless, and overall, positive experience with my stay here. The property staff, amenities, nearby outdoor resources, and rental expenses were, and still are phenomenal, affordable, and comforting. I am ever so grateful to have occupied this residency in this demanding economy. As much as I would love to have stayed, unfortunately, due to a family emergency back home, I had to move out. From the bottom of my heart, I want to appreciate the Glebe House establishment and Staff, Ms. Lee & Ms. Joann, for their kindness and support!! I will definitely be telling my close friends and family of this great place, and hopefully one day, will be able to reoccupy this residence. I could not advise on a better place to reside in Northern VA for the price (UTILITIES INCLUDED!!). You will not regret it!! :)
I was interested in Glebe House because their prices are great for the location and what you are getting for. I therefore went ahead and applied, and it was quickly approved (strong application). I was offered the studio, but told them that I would like to see it before I move in. When I went to go look at the studio, it had a strong natural gas order. I told Lee that I am ready to sign - all you have to do is fix that gas leak. Not only was she rude, but she dismissed my concern, said she did not smell anything yesterday, and told me she is putting the unit back on the market that day. What kind of business decision is that? Is that how you treat people? I had a valid concern and even the tenants next to me said it does smell bad and to talk to management. Don't live here! Awful management - they don't care about you. Just want to take your money. They'd rather you suffocate from natural gas in the air.
Property Manager at Glebe House Apartments, Responded To This Review
We're sorry that you feel that way. The health and safety of our tenants is very important to us. I remember you distinctly. I took your complaint very seriously and had maintenance check the apartment/stove with our gas meter after you left. We did not find a gas leak. We do not hold an apartment unless you are taking it. Since you did not take it at that time, we rented it to the next person who came in. We rent apartments on a first come first serve basis. The same person is still living in the apartment today and has never had a gas problem. Good luck in your new home.
I lived in a furnished studio at Glebe House for 2.5 years, and likely would have continued if I didn't move out of the area to attend graduate school. I moved to the D.C. area without every having visited and Joanne in the office helped tremendously! She eased my mother's fears and allowed us to pay a partial deposit to hold the apartment until we could see it and determine if we wanted to sign a lease. We arrived and it was a great fit for me! Maintaince problems were attended to efficiently and preventative pest control services were offered without costing the tenant. Both Joanne and Lee were always friendly and accommodating and Joanne's Maltese Buddy being in the office helped me through missing my dog back home. The complex is very quiet as most tenants are working professionals, though everyone I encountered was always super friendly. One time during the winter after I moved in, my across the hall neighbor knocked on my door to check up on me because he heard me coughing (I had bronchitis). The location is great even if you don't have a car (I managed fine the first year until I decided I wanted a car), Potomac yard shopping center is about a 10 minute walk and the MetroBus & DASH Bus lines are super convenient. The neighborhood is very safe, and I never had an issue even when returning home walking from the bus stop after midnight often because of the hours I worked when I first moved there. If you do have a car, parking can be tricky - it's difficult to find a spot in the lot after about 8pm and if you return later than about 11pm the street parking situation can sometimes be tricky. But everyone recognizes the parking situation is difficult, and they are upfront about it. The rent prices are a steal for the D.C. area (especially because they have a furnished option which is rare in the area) and they include cable (with HBO!) and utilities. It might not have as many amenities and it is an older complex than others you'll find, but I guarantee you will have to pay so much more for those other places. All my friends in the area couldn't believe how great a deal I had! I really could go on and on about how wonderful this place was to call home. If I ever move back to the D.C. area, Glebe House will be the first place I look at!
As a first time lease holder, I am grateful to have been able to experience living here. The rates can somewhat be affordable. Unfortunately, given the slow sales at my job, I had to leave the place because the rent was now a headache to live with on a monthly basis. Buildings are always clean and the maintaince line really available 24/7. The leasing manager, Mrs. Lee is definitely a great person and is always available to help. Friendly, stern and polite. The other person with her, wish I could say the same. Never had any issues with the apt. Clean place and safe to live in. The only thing I'd say that could def benefit for an upgrade, I'd say are the laundry facilities. Some of driers many times weren't working and with some tenants taking their sweet times to remove their clothes from the machines, you'll find yourself adding extra time to your "laundry time". Hope that makes sense. Overall, I wish I could have my apt back. I miss it but couldn't afford it on my own.
I love my current apartment complex! The ladies who manage the front end are so sweet and kind. I can count on 1 hand the number of bugs I've seen in my apartment, which for the area is rare. If I see one, they will spray at no cost to me! I feel comfortable and safe where I live and am lucky to have found the place.
I have stayed at the Glebe House Apartments for 2 years now. I have had damages from humidity and piping occur, not through any fault of the Apartment staff and despite this, the Glebe House Apartments have never charged me for the strange damages and have brought in the best repairmen possible, with speedy work being done. I am grateful for the care I have been given and I can only say that such care for the building and friendliness of the staff mirrors that of my parents. I am proud to be a resident of my apartments, have not had pest or insect issues, and there has yet to be an issue that was prior to my stay.
Excellent Staff, Well maintained buildings and grounds. Office and Maintenance Staff Can't do enough for you. Excellent place to live. Just sorry I have to leave!
