For over half a century, Huntsville has been associated with the development and testing of rockets for space exploration. This idyllic community in the Appalachian foothills of northern Alabama is a powerhouse of high-tech innovation for both civilian and military applications, with Redstone Arsenal, Cummings Research Park, and NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center driving the local economy. Living in the Huntsville area, you are likely to hear sounds from helicopters and rocket engines on a fairly regular basis.
The city’s intellectual values extend into the local schools as well, which are among the best in the state. But even though the city is home to such a large and unique scientific community, Huntsville retains a timeless atmosphere of Southern charm. Beautiful historic architecture is all around, especially in the Twickenham and Old Town Historic Districts.
Huntsville offers an array of apartments and houses available for rent in every style and budget imaginable.

Property Ratings at Governors House
This place had a number of problems to start with but since the new management has taken over it is quickly becoming more like a nazi prison than a place you want to live. Since the new management took over the first word that comes to mind is greed, they have created new and efficient ways to rip off their residents by charging you for unnecessary amenities and threatening to fine you if you do not kiss their rear while they pinch every last penny they can get their greedy hands on. They enter your apartment whenever they feel like it and leave your doors unlocked for anyone to take your belongings as they please. Living here is like living in an Orwellian nightmare and I won’t recommend it to anyone. Please save your money and time and find another place to live at all costs.
Property Manager at Governors House, Responded To This Review
User, Thank you for letting us know about your recent experience. We're sorry to hear you had a disappointing experience. Your satisfaction is important to us and we would appreciate the opportunity to learn more about your experience. Kindest regards, Govenors House.
Where do I begin! We can start with the gate that doesn’t work. Kay, property manager, will give you this BIG spill on why the gate doesn’t work and the plan for it. I’ve been here a year...NEVER once saw anyone working on it. Fitness center is a joke...you can touch both walls with your arms. “State of the Art” laundry facility barely works. No car care center. No community activities. No assigned parking!....good luck getting a spot close to your door you pay rent for. ROACHES. Corporate is so lackadaisical it’s appalling. ROACHES. No courtesy office or on-site maintenance. Overall, not worth it. They painted the buildings, paved the parking lot, and hung a new sign when they should’ve put that effort into caring for their tenants. Can’t wait to get out of here. Oh yeah, did I say roaches? (Leasing office blames it on the trees && the pool which they’ve yet to drain and it’s February).
Aside from management being intrusive and overall just plain nosey. There are all kinds of hidden fees and fines that aren't in your contract that will be added onto your monthly rent for "violations" that aren't in the lease and some ridiculous ones that are. Rent, that you won't be able to pay unless you pay those fees/fines that are upwards of hundreds of dollars. This place will try to wring you dry especially if they know you make good money. Take my advice and just find something else.
For the most part it’s a decent place, it a bit out dated and if a gated community is at the top of your list of requirements this is NOT the place for you. The gate is constantly under repair. I’ve never seen any other gate have so many issues, reguardless of which tenant may have hit it. The parking is always full. The electrical wiring is a bit faulty and contrary to the claim of free cable listed in the description there is none, you can however expect bad internet service because the wiring for cable is pretty jacked up (I don’t think this is their fault but not sure) and it seems that every year they circle the pot holes as if they intend to repair them but they’re still there. There are things here to like and then there are little tedious things to bother you, it’s really up to what you’re willing to endure. I do feel that the rent is too high for what is offered but I mainly wrote this review because there weren’t any other reviews available to help prospective tenants.
