The Graduate Student Farmhouse is completely rented for the 2025-26 academic year. Please request to get on the waiting list for the 2026-27 academic year. Rent is ALL INCLUSIVE (includes all utilities)! The Graduate Student Farmhouse is designed to create a community for six vetted graduate students and post-doc peers. Enjoy living in a spacious, newly remodeled, turn-of-the-century farmhouse situated on 100+ acres just a few miles south of campus (near Veterinary Medicine School). Enjoy the outdoors by relaxing on your wrap-around porch, getting outside to watch horses grazing, and know that the other graduate students respect your needs for quiet study time and to relax during your down time. The farmhouse is a quiet alternative to crowded undergrad campus life designed specifically to create a community for graduate students and post-docs. It is not on a bus line, so you must have a car to consider. We currently have 3 veterinary students and 3 from other departments. We have been housing U of I graduate students, veterinary students and post-docs for over 35 years. The house has outdoor dining on the wrap-around front porch and a newly updated kitchen (your bedroom is the only unfurnished space in the house). Located on Race Street near the U of I South Farms on the south edge of Urbana. RENT NEXT YEAR: $650 per month with ALL UTILITIES INCLUDED: heat, electricity, water, garbage, internet, central air conditioning, lawn care, free washer and dryer, and free parking Features include stainless appliances including dishwasher, exposed brick eating area in kitchen, sunny breakfast room, Wood floors, upscale furnishings on the first level including a flat-screen TV, wrap-Around Porch with Outdoor Dining (seats 6), Study Room/Living Room with wood burning stone fireplace, Living Room, Formal Dining Room with Antique Fireplace (seats 8), Sun Room/Breakfast Room (seats 4), Laundry Room with free washer and dryer, six separately leased large bedrooms (1 pp/bedroom-unfurnished), plenty of closet, attic, and basement storage, and private/semi-private bathroom areas, great views, a fire pit area, space for a hammock, garden, outdoor activities, and free parking. Meet the graduate students at the house when you take an in-person or virtual tour and hear about their experiences: Like them, if you are someone who likes the idea of coming home to a community of peers from a variety of different departments to enjoy a beautiful home on a farm close to campus, enjoying dinner on your wrap-around porch, watching grazing horses and beautiful sunsets over the prairie, then this is for you. Tie your hammock between the trees, have a barbecue with housemates on the farm, engage in conversations around the fire pit in summer or the cozy wood burning stone fireplace in the winter. Even though you can see the Assembly Hall on Campus from your porch, all you'll hear are the peaceful sounds of nature. No Smoking/No pets. Must be a UIUC Vet Students, Graduate Student, or a Post-Doc to interview and apply. Candidates need to make an appointment to see house in person or via a virtual tour. Application must supply excellent personal and professional references and are interviewed by current housemates. There is a one-month security deposit of $650.
