Property Ratings at Graystone Manor Apartments
The building isn't a 5 star hotel but is bare-able. The apartments are large but everything is VERY old. The gym is a bit janky. I would not advise anyone to attempt to work-out on any of the available equipment. The hot-tub has been boarded up for as long as I have been here. Be wary of the elevators. They are constantly out-of-service. Getting stuck on one of the two "new" elevators seems to be an initiation for new tenants... On the upside - The handyman is a very sweet person always quick to greet you with a smile. He does what he can with his limited resources. The neighbors are generally kind. Lots of families in the building. I (as did many of the other tenants) had a wonderful relationship with the last building manager. Despite many attempts, the current woman in the position is cold and would sooner belittle you than offer a smile. She power-trips. VERY difficult to deal with. Asking her for anything will result in a lecture. She is rarely in her office to receive packages resulting in many packages being left out in the open common area for any delivery person/guest to steal them. She micro-manages everything and bypass any sort of social etiquette to push her agenda - regardless of how silly it is. People have been cycling in-and-out at a much faster rate than ever before and I can only assume its because of her. We've been good tenants for many years. We've paid our rent on-time, have made very few requests of the building, and have gone above and beyond to help in any situations that came-up. If we could take care of a repair ourselves ourselves, we did. We have enjoyed the past few years in our modest apartment in this building. I could deal with the constant increases in rent but cannot tolerate the attitude of the building manager. She has forced us to reconsider our living arrangements. Save yourself the frustration - Look else were.

Pros: Neighbors in other parts of the building generally friendly, apartment itself is decent for the price Cons: Walls/Floors/Ceilings are absolutely the thinnest I have ever experienced. I've my whole life in apartment buildings and have never had a worse experience than this place. You can hear EVERY thing that happens above, next to and below you. EVERYTHING. Sneezes, TVs, conversations (even if they're talking at a low volume), door slam all day and night. Management used to be good, but has changed in the past year and has gone way downhill. They refuse to repair or replace anything in your apartment, stating "Anything within your apartment is your responsibility". This includes any plumbing problems, damage from previous occupancy, speciality lightbulbs you will have to special order, etc. Nothing is their responsibility, it's all yours. They are supposed to have amenities: gym, heated pool, hot tub and sauna. They have none of them. Pool is not heated, sauna and hot tub have been broken the entire time I lived here (over 5 years) and gym doesn't consist of any working equipment. You will not get any of your security deposit back EVEN IF you follow their move out instructions to the letter, ask them to do a walk through to approve it's in the state they need to return your whole deposit and they agree you've done everything they require. You'll still get a letter detailing all the things they are docking you for that weren't listed on the move out instructions or by them in person when they inspected the place. For instance, they're taking most of the deposit to "re-paint" when the lease states if you've lived there for over three years you aren't responsible for that. VERY DISHONEST. You may take these are the rantings of an ex-tenant, but if you ask around to anyone who lives there, you'll find they agree. Do yourself a favor, prevent the headache and avoid this place.
The units in this apartment complex are spacious and bright. The rent is reasonable for the area. The pool is a nice place to swim in the summer. However the management can be slow to fix things and in an aging building this can be a big problem. The buildings elevators have been broken on and off for years. Tenants have been assured that the elevators will be rebuilt soon but tenants are not holding their breath! Besides problems with the elevators, overall, this is a nice, inexpensive place to live in a fun relatively safe neighborhood.
