Scio dates back to 1835, but the reason behind the name is a mystery. The early township records were destroyed in a fire, so the reasons the name was chosen remain a mystery. Some believe it is named for the Greek island of Chios -- the town was apparently named shortly after the US established diplomatic relations with Greece after their War of Independence, which ended in 1830. However it was named, Scio is one of the largest towns in the county and is situated west of Ann Arbor. Its location along the Huron River makes Scio a popular destination, offering beautiful riverfront parks.
Apartments in Ann Arbor Scio provide easy access to downtown and the University of Michigan. This neighborhood offers two top-rated school systems -- Ann Arbor and Dexter. Dexter-Huron Metropark, a wooded, 122-acre park, features picnic areas, a playground, ball fields, fishing, and a canoe launch.

Property Ratings at GreenBrier
Lived here 3 years. Great staff. Well kept. Quiet. Shared facilities well kept. Relatively sound proofed.
We were unable to see the apartment because it was still inhabited. So we had to fill in all the paperwork without knowing what we were signing for. The person we were dealing with (Mark) left the company halfway through the process and no-one let us know or picked up his incoming clients. After two weeks of no replies I called them and was told Mark had left, but also some of the paperwork he had requested (front sheets of contracts) was actually insufficient. But then when more time went by I called back and it turned out that there was continuing silence because more paperwork was needed, but no one had felt it useful to let us know that they were waiting on this. Our move-in day is the only day we could get the furniture moved in, so I asked if the office could let the movers have the keys so they could move stuff into the apartment "No - we're too busy was the reply", so I asked if we could get the keys the day before "No - that would require changing all the paperwork" was the reply. So we not only have inept management handling the lease signing and moving-in process, they're also singularly unhelpful from the get-go. Great start!
(1) When I moved in, there were bedbugs that came from the walls (exterminator confirmed their source). It took nearly 2 weeks to get the exterminator to show up to address the issue, which is 2 weeks that I either had to sleep in an infested apartment or find other accommodations. Then I had to treat all of my belongings on my own dime and my own time. As an apology for not being able to inhabit my apartment for 2 weeks, they took $200 off my rent. That covered less than 2 nights at a hotel in Ann Arbor. (2) The walls made a ticking noise from the pipes or something and keep my up at night. I had to buy earplugs to be able to sleep. (3) The door to my balcony was crooked and when fully "closed" there was still a 1 inch gap between the door and the wall at the top of the door. Also, the lock didn't work. The bathroom door didn't close fully, and the exterior door from the unit to the hallway was very difficult to turn, and kept getting worse. I put in a service request, and they only addressed the sliding door to the balcony, then they closed the ticket. Then the door to my unit got so difficult to turn that I had to call maintenance to let me into my unit. The maintenance person said I had to agree to a "lost key" charge before they would help me, even though I handed him the key. I disputed the charge as I had already submitted a request to get this fixed and it was ignored, and had the charges dismissed. (4) Bats. There were bats in my bedroom. flying around. When they sent someone to address the issue after 2 days of this happening, they found a hole where the radiator went into the wall, and the "fix" was to stuff it with a plastic grocery bag. (5) MORE BED BUGS. 2 weeks before my lease was over (when I was in the process of packing up), I found a bedbug. I immediately reported the issue, and again they were coming from the walls. It took a week to get an exterminator again, and they took my entire security deposit to cover the cost, even though this was again an issue that did not originate with me. But the bed bug clause in the lease doesn't care where the issue came from. My best guess is that a neighbor didn't want to pay the $500 and instead bought sprays at a hardware store that just sent the bugs back into the walls instead of killing them, and popped out in another unit. Moving was delayed by a week waiting for the exterminator, and I also had to go through and treat everything in my apartment before allowing it to be moved out.
the place is nice and the service is the best i think it's good
First of all, I like the maintenance, they are quick and responsible. Nice neighborhood. Apartments are clean and never had any bad experience. If you want a decent and quiet neighborhood you can come and stay here. Ann Arbor is very pricey but this community is affordable. I don't like Air Conditioner stuff it's not centralized.

Thank you very much for the positive feedback. We always love to hear from our residents!
My unit is directly above a boiler room. The noise and heat from the boiler room makes my unit very uncomfortable. Management has refused to even give me an estimate when it will be fixed because their maintenance staff is understaffed (they told me there was only two people for the entire property and they had over 100 non emergency requests waiting). They also used this same excuse for a different problem I had almost two months ago. They also said they only had two people two months ago. So they clearly are not taking initiative to hire a proper maintenance staff.

Thank you for your feedback, we always appreciate hearing from our residents. We are really sorry to hear that you were unhappy with management and had some issues from the heat system in your building. When the temperatures drop so low, the boiler system has to work hard to heat the entire building, thus creating some sounds. As you may be aware, with the COVID pandemic, there were a lot of employment shortages everywhere, and across 100’s of businesses. We strive to provide the best customer service and maintenance to our residents, and we apologize again that we were short staffed in our maintenance department. Thank you again for your feedback! Please feel free to reach out to me directly, in the future, should you have other issues or concerns. Janene Reid, Residential Manager, rm@greenbrierapartments.com
Very poor management. My unit is above a boiler room and the heat and noise makes my apartment extremely uncomfortable. It is several weeks and management will not even give me an estimate on when this issue will be fixed since their maintenance department is severely understaffed (only two maintenance people, their words not mine). They first told me they were understaffed two months ago for a different issue (with only two people). So they haven't hired anyone in two months. They don't seem to have any interest in having a properly staffed maintenance team.

My girlfriend and I have lived here for almost 2 years. We had some water damage issues (in the carpet) within the first year of living here but the problem was resolved quickly. However, in I’m December of 2019 we started hearing gurgling sounds in our toilet and sinks. We didn't know that meant there was a clog in the system and shortly after our toilet wouldn't flush and water started backing up into our bathtub and sinks. We called maintenance because it was absolutley disgusting. They unclogged the toilet and drained the water but the maintenace guy said the larger problem at hand wasn't fixed, and he was only putting "a bandaid on a bullet wound". I guess he was at least honest. Happened again in the beginning of January. This time I'm furious and go to the leasing office as water coming back up through your drain is disgusting and hinders your daily life. My girlfriend and I wanted out of our lease. They send another maintenance guy over who said the problem is fixed "for now" and that unfortunatly since we live in the garden unit stuff like this "may just happen" as they can't control what the other tennants flush down the toilets. That answer is absolutley unacceptable. I don't care what anyone else does in their unit, it should not be affecting mine. And frankly I don't think it's from another person "maybe" flushing wipes down the toilet, as it had seemed to happen when another tennant uses their shower. I was told by the leasing office that the problem is solved and I should move on. Well, it wasn't solved. Happened again for a 3rd time. Can't flush my toilet and water won't drain from my sinks or bathtub. This type of living situation is DISGUSTING AND UNACCEPTABLE. They will not admit to not fixing the larger issue at hand and won't even let us out of our lease. I don't write this type of stuff often but I can very confidently tell everyone to NOT move in here.
