Property Ratings at Greenspire Apartments
I've lived at Greenspire for four years and I love it! The campus is beautiful and there are so many amenities; the pool, 24/7 fitness room, kayaks and canoes to rent and use on Hampton Lake. There are tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts as well as walking/hiking trails. The property management and service staff are very responsive when there is an issue, and proactive letting the residents know when work needs to be done. They also have many special events throughout the year. A Christmas party with a horse drawn sled and Santa at the reins, poolside parties and ice-cream trucks to name a few! You won't regret living at Greenspire!

The new management and leasing teams are doing a great job. With summer on the way I can't wait to get out and kayak on Hampton Lake!

I love living at Greenspire! Our apartment is quiet, neighbors are friendly, and we love using the pickleball court. Maintenance is also quick to respond with any issues we have had in the apartment. Would recommend!

Hello! Thank you for your kind words! We are happy you are enjoying the pickleball court too. Please let us know if you need anything at all! -Greenspire Management
I would not recommend living at Greenspire. Although the complex is the nicest in the Portage area, you do not get the quality you are paying for. Expect mice (I’ve found 8 so far), furnace breaking, leaks, insects, car theft/break ins (no cameras in the parking lots), & many other issues. I live in one of the nice, new apartments and have had all of the issues described above plus some. Amy rent went up EXPONENTIALLY & there is constant construction. Please reconsider if you plan to move in to this complex.
I would say about 25 percent have good internet. I was expecting fiber from Att when moving into the new building only to move in and get 50mbps. If you are moving here and care about fiber look up your address before signing the lease. Att says they have no plan to upgrade greensprire and management just says to talk to att. For a long time place to live for many people good internet is a must and 50mbps just doesn't cut it anymore especially for new apartment building's that advertise high speed internet and have Att fiber advertisement's in their office
I only lived here for a short time but the experience was a positive one. The property is beautiful and the units are very nice. I would recommend this apartment complex to my best friends
I don't know what all these negative comments are about; I've lived here for about 5 months now and I have yet to find something to complain about. There's not even noisy neighbors. HIGHLY recommend this apartment complex
Used to love this place. Now all I hear is construction nonstop throughout the day. Plus they are charging me an extra $20 a month for their construction. I can’t drive down my road without some construction truck in the way either. I wasn’t patient with all that until today. On top of all that I’ve been without water for a whole day today. Was told it would be off for an hour or so and I’ve had no access to my toilet, no water to drink, no water for my cats, and can’t even wash my hands. If that’s what you’re looking for then sign a new lease here and enjoy.
We called to ask about their smoking policy. The manager misunderstood and said, "Oh, we encourage it!" We passed.
I lived at Greenspire Apartments for over four years. The location is just right. You are far enough away from the business and bustle, but only minutes away from Westnedge Ave, shopping, and great food. Situated in a beautiful wooded setting, I had a very peaceful stay and no trouble continuing in my work from home position. The view I had facing the woods provided extra privacy as well. The staff at Greenspire under Sandy and now Jose is friendly, helpful & responsive. Maintenance issues were always quickly and professionally handled. Not only did the staff do what was expected, they go above and beyond. They consistently hold community events at the clubhouse. When renovations were underway that made it hard for me to work in my apartment due to noise, they set me up with a space to work in the club house. Greenspire is one of the few apartment complexes that I’ve stayed at that felt like a community. In the past, I’ve rarely known any of my neighbors, but at Greenspire I was part of a family.
Don't do it it's just a big waste of your money and time the staff is useless they aren't too eager to help you out with your problems, I've had mice, crickets, cockroaches, and all sorts of bugs and pests in my apartment and the staff had a lack of concern about it I reported mice 3 times to them and all they do is put useless sticky traps down. Who wants to live with mice. It's a noisy place due too all of the construction and yet they say it's a nice quiet place to live. They are just fake and are here to just take your money like bandits. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. DONT DO IT!!

The worst place to live they have mice and cockroaches and they don't do anything about it worst place ever!!!!!
We've been living here for 3 years. The grounds are really nice with the lake and boats you can rent out. They do a really nice job with snow removal, there is sufficient parking, waste disposal is convenient, washer/dryers are kept in functioning order, it's quiet and safe, rent is a fair price, work orders for maintenance are handled quickly, and I really don't have any complaints about the place. We see all kinds of animals out our back patio and have a view of woods in the summer and in the winter you can see all the way to the lake.
Looking for the quiet, serene atmosphere as promised by the website? This is not accurate. The construction project that has started a couple years ago will not be completed until the end of 2018. That is what they told me, after I signed a lease for another year. A month into my lease I opened my balcony door and was greeted with hundreds of trees being removed. The construction has not stopped since then. When asked if I could break my lease since I was lied to, the answer was no. Now I get to spend the next ten months with my windows closed and fans on, or wear headphones, to alleviate the noise of beeping. Have you always wanted a vibrating apartment? Look no further! My building has been shaking for weeks. Do you think that the ad for the free boats and canoes to take out on the lake are too good to be true? They are indeed! You have to wade through swamp water and go to a dock that is partially under water to get to them. They are completely unusable unless you want to get wet and dirty before you go for a lovely cruise on the lake. Do you think that parking is a luxury only for the people who get home before five o’clock in the afternoon? Welcome to Greenspire! If you want to park at your building you better be home by five and stay home for the evening, or you risk walking through parking lots several buildings from your own. Are you looking for the lovely hiking trails and serene, peaceful, quiet walks after a long day at work? I was too! But this, again, is not what it seems. My walks consist of walking from my apartment, playing frogger to get to Centre Street across the roads in Greenspire that are curved and blind, so cars do not see you in time to avoid you. I will say that during my stay at Greenspire I have been inspired to start jogging from necessity. All told, this has been a hellish nightmare that I pray every night will end. I wake every morning to construction, except Sunday. My life now consists of trying to stay out of the “quiet” serenity that was promised upon signing my lease. So I pay for an unusable apartment approximately 75% of the time I am awake. On Sundays I enjoy opening my windows to look out onto huge piles of dirt and construction equipment when a lovely forest used to be. It is not the beautiful wooded environment that was promised. I implore you to try another complex. Greenspire will lie to you and promise you an experience that is unattainable.
Horrible. Trust me you don’t want to live here.. lies from the office staff, lack of concern, and shotty maintenance . Construction going on all the time. It cost to much to live here to have to listen to that. False advertising when they say quiet nature living. They have removed most of the trees that made it seem tucked away and now your just looking at a parking lot, dirt piles, and other buildings.
Greenspire's website says, "Whether you’re looking for a safe, private, and natural setting, a healthy & active life style, or just some peace and quiet, you’ll find it at Greenspire Apartments." What a joke that turned out to be, just 2 months after moving in our entire has gone under construction. 6 days/week, 9 hours/day, nonstop. Our dishes rattle in the cupboards, there is nonstop power tools you can hear from inside your apartment, and trucks beep nonstop. They ripped out 80% of the trees in our area for this project, and management has said it will be going on for at least an entire year. Their recommendation for us? Wear earplugs in our apartments or go sit in a coffee shop all day. Pretty convenient for them after locking us in a year long lease!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I've lived here for several years. I found this page while looking for my next apartment. Over half of the people in my building have moved out already since spring. The rent is being raised and even with the new kitchen it isn't worth the price of living here. The new appliances might look nice but they are cheap and don't work well, my dish washer won't even clean my dishes. The old one they took out was better. The new people that are moving in and replacing the previous neighbors are young 20 somethings renting together. They have zero self awareness and are very loud. Loud music is played in my building and you can hear them noisily walking in groups back from the Tap House at night. The police have been here an alarming number of times in the last few months. It is like it went from being a quiet family environment to being a sorority or fraternity almost over night. They must not screen the people they rent to at all, or they simply don't care. I thought I would continue to spend a number of years here as I had liked it when I moved in. I feel like it is sad that I now can't wait to get out. They made improvements that they can write off on their taxes and upped the rent a ridiculous amount to continue making a lot of extra money off the residents for years to come. Shameful.. enjoy your new clientele you won't be ripping me off
Moved in a couple of months ago. Realized I have made a mistake. I'm already searching for my next place.
I've lived here for over 5 years and when I lease is up I will be moving. It was nice the 1st couple of years but I'm ready to move. My neighbors play loud music late into the night. When you call about something that needs fixed- good luck with that. I've asked for 2 things to be fixed since I've been here and for the record neither thing has been fixed! They finished the renovations on my place several weeks ago. My consumers bill went way up when they workers were here. They felt free to turn the air down and not put it back as they found it when they left. They worked with the doors proper open so everyone could look into the apartments. They got paint all over my shower curtain. They left push pins in the rubber "baseboard" in the kitchen. They also moved a piece of furniture in my living room that I didn't know they needed moved and didn't put it back after. Im a single person living alone, how did they think I was going to move it back!? There is also this awful dust that gets all over everything anytime the ac turns on since. I have breathing problems and this has made it worse. While yes the kitchen is new it is also cheap. It is very obvious that my kitchen floor uneven and the handles on the cupboard doors are uneven. Ps it looks kinda like wood but it's actually some kind plastic. I am not paying the huge rent increase for the silly kitchen .. maybe if the rest of the apartment had been done and they had replaced the lead paint. Everything in my bathroom is old and ugly. I wish they had given me the option to be let out of my lease when they did they renovations, because I'd already be gone and they would be making more money on the new tenant. That is clearly the point. They rent credit they allowed us didn't cover the expenses the workers accumulated for me.

As the new Property Manager for Greenspire Apartments i apologize that you had such a bad experience with the renovations. It is my understanding that the renovations were undertaken to make the apartment more modern and aesthetically beautiful. Sorry that the final outcome was not what you expected. Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate knowing that the contractors were less than considerate with the air conditioning, moving furniture around, and leaving doors open. I will speak to our contractor about this immediately. If there is anything I can do to accommodate you for your inconvenience please let me know. I will also be talking to my Maintenance Supervisor regarding the open or uncompleted work orders you have had since you moved here. Although this is my first week on the job, I want to do my best to make sure our tenants are happy and enjoy living here. Please call or stop by the office at your convenience, I will do my best to address and correct your concerns. Jose Trejo Property Manager Greenspire Apartments
I moved out! Let me give you and idea of what the person who is now living in my old apartment gets to enjoy. The neighbor in my old building smokes marijuana that seeped into my place; their solution was to post a note in the building. The people that live below where I lived have deck parties all the time and I had to listen to their loud music late into the night. They also smoke like chimneys so you can smell smoke 24/7. Greenspire does not have smoke free buildings. Nonsmokers beware. The water there is orange/brown and nasty, and they have the water shut off all the time. They renovated my apartment just before I moved out. The workers turned my AC down when I was gone working and my electric bill went from 40$ on average to over 100$ while the workers where there. Greenspire did offer 100$ rent credit 1x that was suppose to be for my "inconvenience" but I also had to empty EVERYTHING out of my pantry and kitchen while I was still living there. I also had to replace my bathroom rug because when the workers were done my rug was discussing and wet with grey liquid. It was stuck to my bathroom floor and after ripping my rug up I had to scrub the grey liquid off my bathroom floor. They do now have washers and dryers that take up a lot of storage space in the pantry. The washer and dryer are stacked. I am 5'10 and I can not see the controls on the dryer. If you need something fixed or replaced you can expect to get half fix job done. They have new 14mph speed limit signs up but if you have kids as I do,you need to watch them because people fly thru there at about 40mph. It is not worth the price they are asking to live there.. it's ridiculous

On behalf of Greenspire Apartments, please accept my deepest apologies for the many inconveniences and unfavorable issues that you experienced while living here. At Greenspire Apartments, we strive to provide ALL our residents with a safe, clean and happy living experience. We did just complete renovations in your building to enhance the quality of life, and living experience for our residents, to include newly remodeled kitchens and new appliances. However, that is no excuse for the inconveniences that you experienced as a result of our contractors. Going forward we will do a better job of monitoring our contractors to ensure this doesn't happen again. As of August 21, 2017, I am the new Property Manager for Greenspire Apartments, and I appreciate your feedback so that I can take steps improve our service and make sure this doesn't happen again. Sincerely, Jose Trejo Property Manager
We were very excited to move into this complex due to its location close to everyday conveniences while maintaining a wooded/secluded environment. The staff is generally helpful in the viewing and leasing process and they respond to non-emergency work requests usually within 24 hours. However, that is where their helpfulness ends. We have had nothing but problems from our upstairs neighbors from constant screaming and yelling to stomping and smoke from drugs permeating our apartment. We have contacted the office numerous times including calling after hours as they told us to only to be told there was nothing they could do. Re-evaluate what you value before choosing this apartment. If you are looking for quiet and seclusion, you might find it BUT don't accept a 1st or 2nd floor apartment. Greenspire, I'd start responding to noise violations.

To Whom This May Concern: Please contact me at the office so that I can personally look into the problems you are having at your apartment. I would be glad to sit down with you to address these issues.. Sandy Tokarski Manager
In general, I am pleased with the service I have received from Sandy and especially Nikkole. The whole staff is friendly!! They are prompt, polite and because of this I'm encouraged to stay another year. The location is wonderful.
Greenspire is a beautifully wooded area to live. There are many trails to walk, acres of hunting property, and fishing. The floor plans are very nicely done with lots of storage space. I had the pleasure of working with Nikkole, one of the leasing specialists and she was very nice, patient and knowledgeable about everything. She takes pride in her work and will do everything she can to make your experience wonderful. My family and I are very happy here and would definitely recommend it! Best experience! JM
We absolutely love it here at Greenspire Apartments! Very private, friendly neighbors, and landlords. We just everything that they have to offer us! Best apartment that we've ever lived at!
Very nice complex with good floorplans. Not very far from downtown kalamazoo, WMU, and lots of great restaurants. Greenspire is located in a large state forest with lots of trails for walking or hunting. Also is situated on a small lake with free boat rentals. The apartments are simple with not a lot of bells and whistles but are clean and affordable. Only issues we have had is a small bug problem.
