The arrival of spring means many things: warmer temperatures, more hours of sunlight, flowers in full bloom, and of course, spring cleaning. Since spring is all about new beginnings, it’s the perfect time to organize, simplify, and get rid of things you no longer need.
In your apartment community, spring cleaning is a chance to tidy up the grounds, do some landscaping, and add curb appeal right before the busy spring and summer leasing season kicks off.
Include your residents by making spring cleaning an event. Designate an upcoming Saturday as Spring Cleaning Saturday in your community. While your staff focuses on sprucing up common areas, your residents can clean and organize their homes. Here are some ways to get everyone involved.
Load up on trash and recycling bins
Place extra trash and recycling bins throughout your community for the weekend. Residents will take advantage of the extra bins to do a deep cleaning of their apartments, and the extra bins will prevent your community from being overrun with trash.
Arrange a donation pick-up
As they say, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Arrange for a local charity or Salvation Army to come to your community to pick up clothing, books, and household items your residents no longer want. Ask residents to drop off their donations to the leasing office by a certain time to ensure their donations make it onto the truck.
Get the word out
Let your residents know about Spring Cleaning Saturday and the resources that will be available to help them tidy up their homes. Hang flyers in the leasing office, fitness center, elevators, and other common areas. Include a reminder in your community newsletter and post about it on your social media channels.
Wrap up with a social hour
It’s always nice to have something to look forward to, so end your day of spring cleaning with a fun social event. Invite residents to the clubhouse for drinks and snacks after their long day of scrubbing and organizing. This will not only help them relax and unwind, but they’ll also get a chance to reconnect with neighbors after being cooped up all winter.
