Hamden, aka the “Land of the Sleeping Giant,” is a verdant city spanning north of New Haven. This charming city is in a lush, mountainous setting where outdoor recreation abounds. For breathtaking views of the Sleeping Giant, head to its namesake park or explore the rugged terrain at West Rock Ridge and Brooksvale Park. Laid-back adventures are provided by golf courses, community parks, and Lake Whitney.
The southern half of Hamden, closest to New Haven, accounts for the busier commercial sections of town. Shopping centers, office complexes, and well-populated residential areas make up most of this side of town. The southern edges of Hamden partially contain both the Southern Connecticut State University Campus and the Albertus Magnus College, making Hamden appealing to those associated with the colleges. Renters looking for a place that offers both city life and mountain life will be drawn to Hamden.

Property Ratings at Hamden Centre
When I first moved into the complex, a little over a year ago, there did not seem to be any sense of urgency or care from the office. After being replaced, the property and units have been improved drastically. The parking lot was immediately repaved, repainted, and electric charging stations added. Each unit is being redone by the end of the year. New appliances, new flooring, and new painting. Overall a better place to live than when I moved in.
This place offers nothing special for the outrageous prices. Lived at Hamden Centre for many years and only stayed because of the pet policy. Outrageous rent increases every year, parking lot prone to flooding, minimal upgrades and they want the RESIDENT to install the upgrade. Absurd and bogus move-out charges. Management is terrible.
Apartments are old not worth the price. Needs major upgrades. Parking lot floods on occasion, damaging cars. There was a flood last year and sewage was everywhere! Flooded apartments were the only apartments to get upgraded! Ugh! Management raises rent every year by $50 - be prepared for that! Only highlight is the dog park.

Beautiful community! Julia was prompt , very responsive and everything was such a smooth process
Low quality and overpriced, no sound barrier, poorly maintained, would keep looking if I were you
I love my apartment at Hamden Centre. The maintenance staff and property managers are great. Friendly community, great amenities... really everything you need to live a good life. Yes, there are noisy students sometimes on School Street, but this seems to be an ongoing issue in the town of Hamden. I went through three different landlords in and around downtown New Haven before moving here and I have absolutely zero regrets. In fact, I only wish I had found this place sooner!
Tiny apartments, overpriced, only 5 washers for the entire complex, unreliable maintenance staff, unprofessional management, no assigned parking, college kids and neighbors blasting music daily, dog park is filled with feces.
I love them! great place to live! pet friendly, friendly people, great amenities, awesome town!
