Considered the cultural capital of the South, downtown Charleston contains the French Quarter on the east, sporting cobblestone streets and gaslight lamps, and Market Street on the west, where the famous Charleston City Market operates. Because the downtown area sits between the Ashley River and the Cooper River, residents can walk from their apartments to Waterfront Park, a few blocks south, for a little rest and relaxation or wander along the narrow streets, where historic homes and buildings proudly sit.
Locals enjoy spending time at the Charleston Crab House for both the fresh seafood and the homey atmosphere. They can people-watch on the outside terrace while enjoying good food and cold drinks.

Property Ratings at Hampton West
I lived here for two years while finishing up my graduate degree. The management is awful. They struggle to keep the office staffed, and when someone is employed as the office manager they are actually on site about 50% of the time that they are supposed to be there. When I moved in, my toilet was clogged and couldn’t flush. I called the emergency maintenance service and the worker was very annoyed that I needed it fixed and asked if it could wait until the next day - he showed up to fix my toilet when I told him no and after fixing it he tried to tell me I didn’t know how to properly flush a toilet and that it was my fault it was clogged. It was also in my lease and advertised on the website that there was free WiFi on the property. This is not the case, and although I complained about this several times the issue was never resolved and I had to purchase my own WiFi. Another thing that was advertised on their website is free laundry on site. About 2 months into me living there, the washers and dryers on site were replaced with no notice to the residents and we started having to pay $2.75 per wash and $2.00 per drying cycle. When confronted with this, management did nothing to help. When I was finally able to move out, my parents and boyfriend both helped me clean the apartment and remove all belongings. The apartment was in good shape with no damages and no personal items left behind. 31 days after the lease ended, I still had not received my security deposit back or any notice that they were keeping the deposit, so I reached out via email. Management claimed that they had mailed me a notice that they were keeping my deposit and that I owed $145 on top of the deposit for cleaning charges. Again, nothing was damaged in the apartment and I never received this notice via mail. When I questioned management, it was explained that I had the option to hire a cleaning service to clean the apartment before I moved out and that I would have likely received my deposit back if I had done so. When I stated that this was nowhere in my lease, I was presented with an itemized list of the cost for cleaning each item in the apartment which I had not signed and which was not present anywhere in my lease. All in all, the place does not take care of its residents (or employees it seems based on the turnover rate of on site management). I would avoid this complex if at all possible.
This is the worst apartment I've ever lived in. Heat went out on Christmas and instead of fixing it, they gave me space heaters that barely worked and blew a fuse so I had no electricity. Property management is incompetent and rude. I had a ceiling leak in the same spot 4 different times that was never fixed. They also told me in the middle of my lease that I needed at 55+ co-signor to be compliant or I couldn't renew my lease. All very shady and sketchy.
Everything that can go wrong does, from the never working laundry to the constantly overflowing dumpster. The final straw for me was the third time my roof leaked significant amounts of water into my bedroom
The location is perfect, everything I need is in walking distance and my dog absolutely loves it here. The renovated apartments are much nicer than any other apartments in this area and super modern with granite countertops, stainless appliances, fully tiled bathrooms, and 12 foot ceilings. Staff is very nice. They even bring my packages to my door and I had no maintenance issues since I moved in 3 month ago. I will be here for a while and am glad I found this hidden gem.
