Essex is a quiet suburban community situated on the Chesapeake Bay, just 11 miles east of Baltimore. A predominantly residential area, Essex residents enjoy a low cost of living and proximity to the city. Essex is an excellent option for renters thanks to an incredible variety of apartment communities and townhomes near the water and the town’s major thoroughfares.
Residents enjoy an even mix of locally-owned restaurants and more familiar eateries along Eastern Boulevard, Back River Neck Road, and Middleborough Road. It’s easy to travel to and from Essex, especially if you commute into the city center. You’re minutes from Interstate 695 and the MARC station near Martin State Airport. In addition to being a waterfront city, you’ll enjoy Essex’s parks, marinas, and modern conveniences.

I lived in Harbor point estates in two different houses on each side of the neighborhood. Went from a 2 bdr to a 3bdr. I moved in to the first house in November, it was cold outside and quiet. First day it was hot enough outside to turn the air conditioner on, someone was shot at the bus stop across the street. After I moved into the 3bdr house someone else was shot and killed at the same bus stop. I had my front kitchen window busted out by someone and the rental office made me pay for it to be replaced. Crazy considering crime is high in the area, and parents just let their kids run around the neighborhood with no supervision. Mice are another huge problem throughout the community. Both places I lived were infested with mice, they were so bad we even seen them during the day. My ex would shoot them with a BB gun as they came out of the kitchen into the dining room area. I would find nest of pinky mice in the closets, they would make nest inside of boxes. They shouldn’t charge a pet deposit or pet rent for cats, they should deduct money from your rent if you have cats because it’s free pest control. Absolutely have to disinfect and clean counters daily, and inside of drawers and cabinets weekly because of mice urine and droppings. I had roaches in the 2 bdr house but not the 3 bdr. I guess it just depends on your neighbors and what part you live in. Water bill is outrageously high. More monthly than a quarterly water bill in a single family home. If your rent is late you can’t use the pool, but you still have to pay that crazy water bill. Humidity would build up in the kitchen from the water and dryer and I had to scrub the walls and mop the ceiling because of brown liquid running down the walls and dripping from the ceiling.
Awful customer service everyday there is a new person in the office. Snobby office staff who are not trained correctly. They generally have to ask you multiple times who you spoke to. Bulk trash in between homes 3m + and still has not been removed. Bulk trash removal is included but community is being charged. Walls cracking and splitting after only 3 months, closet doors not correctly installed constantly falling. Old appliances nothing updated Constant crime .The worst place I have ever lived literally.
poor and insensitive management this place is really unlivable, smell gas sometimes in the kitchen when nothing is on(the super) advised because it's an very old gas oven and maybe on its way out. That was over 2 years ago now the old oven is sinking in the floor or th floor is sinking, the roden issue has never stopped all year around, the worst
The leasing agent is unprofessional and a liar. There is a water bill !! The homes are rodent / bug infested. Maintenance is slow. Rent fluctuates !!
my neighborhood is pretty quiet. my neighbors are friendly and the walk to the schools are okay. my first impression of the place was very pleasant I liked what I saw or can I say I like the model I saw. I first moved u may of 2015 I can say from what they showed me from the model was completely different and my place was a lot smaller. the lady at the leasing off was horrible. she lied about us me having a dishwasher when she was very clear that there was one and when we had our tour she was very rude and seem to rush me . I moved in in may of 2015 and its now October 2015 and I am ready to go. everything just started going bad the last 3-4 month. One thing i don't like about this place is the laundry room.. they open and close it whenever they feel like it. they told me it suppose to be open from 9-6 (which is dum) but i guess i understand for safety but there are days when they open it and there are days where they don't. they open late n close early or open early n close early . the bathroom do not have outlets, the AC unit is to loud. the concrete outside is horrible. they take forever to come and cut the grass. the people at the leasing office are bad at making sure i get the best possible living experience . im paying an over price rent. the water is too hot. not enough space. the backyard is nasty. they don't tell you when the water bill is due. making online payments for the rent is not easy. pretty much this place is not safe for children nor adults. this place seem very easy to be broken into. there are SOOOOO many bugs i cant believe it. i seen bugs that i never seen before. i can stay i have seen any roaches but i seen almost every other bugs. the last big ISSUE i have is the MICE/RAT infestation. i moved in may 2015 and its October and i have count SO far 4 mice.. you may say 4 isn't a lot but there are more and bigger ones i have caught. i had to place stickies and traps all around the house to control the infestation. i found holes in the walls that were allowing these rats to come through. i have closed n seal some of the holes i could find but im sure there are more. this is a big problem and wish this place get burned down. it all started with the poops on the stove then one day i saw one in my kitchen and running out the closet. please please do not live here. this place has got to go. i tried to be open and honest as i could. its October i have until next may to move or sooner i will post more if any more issues occur.. thank u
Nice roomy an spaces .Great location near water, you can do some fishing in summer off the bridge . Love it here maybe you too
