Property Ratings at Harbor View Village
Negative living experience in this apartment was unpleasant and uncomfortable. Right from the start, I encountered a bad smell and constant smoking, which greatly affected the atmosphere. The building was old and poorly maintained, leading to issues with spiders being everywhere. The apartment itself left much to be desired: it was dirty and dusty. Living in such conditions was inconvenient. Moreover, when we refused to use the oven due to its malfunction, we were forced to pay a fine, which caused dissatisfaction and disappointment. In the end, these negative aspects created a bad living experience, and I would recommend avoiding this apartment in the future.
If you've seen the other options around the area and then seen this place. Easy choice! Awesome area, everything is clean and kept up. The property manager Julie is so nice!! Both of us just love the place and couldn't be happier.
The location is quite for the most part aside from being able to hear all the various events at St Francis High School which can get a bit annoying. The neighbors are nice enough although you get the feeling some have been there for years while the younger crowd stays maybe a year or two at most. My building in particular always had a steady stream of people coming and going. For the price the units are small, they lack amenities and the appliances are extremely old. Seriously i've looked and they do not even make the fridges, dishwasher etc, that are in these units anymore. That brings you to the larger issue and that is everything about the apartments seems out of date. Things were updated however i had it pointed out to me multiple times that the place resembled an old hospital/school in dire need of help. I feel updated appliances, updated wiring and adding color to the units would help considerably. Add to this that there is NO visitor parking at all. If you have guest over be prepared to tell them they will need to park at least a couple blocks away and they better have a permit if they are staying over night. Seriously this is the only apartment i have been in that doesnt offer anything for visors and it is extremely inconvenient. As for amenities there really isn't much to mention. The corner units had dishwashers but none of the others do, only one of the buildings had a lake view but with the condo across the street that is virtually gone now, there is a small laundry room in each building but there is only 2 washers and 2 dryers for over 20 units and that's really about it. I suppose you could say heat, water being is included is a perk but thats fairly common so i dont consider that as anything special. In contrast the snow plow service they use, the garbage service they hired and even the maintenance people they have are pretty bad. The lots are regularly not plowed all the way, the side walks/stairs are not shoveled all the way, the garbage service only comes a couples times a week at most (garbage buildup was normal) and the maintenance crew consist of 1 guy with questionable knowledge of plumbing.
I've lived here over 7 years and had a great experience. The apartments are comfortable, the neighbors are nice, and the neighborhood is safe. The apartment manager has always been responsive to my needs. The included amenities are great for the price - free heat, gas, water, off-site parking, appliances, laundry on-site. It's truly been a home to me and I'll miss this place.
