Property Ratings at Harborside Marina Bay Apartments
I hate to give this place a low rating but the problems are really starting to stack up. The actual apartments are great and the location in the Marina is perfect. But over the last year and a half, a lot has gone downhill. There have been numerous instances of theft and vandalism to the apartments, cars, and bikes. All of the surrounding apartments have consistent security... this building does not. Sometimes they show up, sometimes they don't. Many residents, myself included, have had numerous discussions with the apartment managers about adding security cameras, and security on site and no action is taken. These conversations have spanned over the last year. They've cut back on cleaning the carpets in the hallways and it often takes days for trash to be removed from the lobbies. The pool chairs are falling apart and there are no umbrellas...meaning no shade by the pool. Responses to that from management have ranged from "It's been too windy to put up the umbrellas" to "The umbrellas are still in storage." These conversations have also spanned over the last year. I hope these comments spark change. The apartments themselves are lovely but life at Harborside is on a downward path.

This property used to be great - not perfect, apartments never are, but it was a nice place to live. And yes, management companies are usually a pain in the neck but AMC Management, which took over 1+ years ago, is uniquely bad. All their other properties are mid to lower tier and they are clearly not used to managing luxury apartments at this price point. Just one example of this degradation is the landscaping which they've allowed to die. When they did have a landscaping company come out it was only to replant the area outside the leasing office. This is typical. They present a good face to prospective tenants and then ignore us. Complaints about tenants smoking on their balcony have been ignored. The maintenance staff tries to do a good job but they (he - there is only one) is overworked so that even plumbing emergencies take 2-3 days to be fixed. Finally, don't be fooled by the good reviews. Many of them are clearly fake and sound more like brochure copy than the experiences of real tenants. There are a lot of choices for renters in MDR - almost all offer more amenities than Harborside and are probably better managed. Go there.

Ever since the new management company (and new owners) took over in late 2019, things have gone south. There's a reason they had to do a town hall at the request of the many angry tenants, but the result was nothing but empty promises. I've lived here for more than 4 years and was happy, but will move out now.

The apartments at Avalon are newly renovated and really nice inside. I have a 1st floor unit, which has laminate floors throughout the entire kitchen and living room - an awesome feature. The community pool, gym, and rooftop lounge are well maintained and rarely crowded. Management and maintenance staff have always been friendly and quick to respond to any issues, and thankfully we haven't experienced any problems other than some basic wear and tear issues. The rent is not cheap (and our rent just went up with our lease renewal), but it's comparable to other similar communities in the Marina area. I'll definitely stick around as long as I can afford it!
I live at the Avalon apartments in Marina del Rey and I love it. I share my paradise with two doggies and my hard working hubby. these apartment's have the biggest balconies in MdR and the neighbors are all do freindly. The apartments are modern and cozy with lots of extras. in apt. washer driers, pool,hot tube,workout room, marina stroll,food truck Thursday and month community event. Tonight is Taco Tuesday free food and beer for all. What's not to love? our one bedroom has a huge walk in closet and super nice hard wood floors and carpet. The bedrooms boast a fantastic office nook with a marina view to die for.
