Property Ratings at Harclay House Apartments
If I could give zero stars I would as well. this place is a horrible experience,. i am sitting in a cold apartment right now typing and it is only OCT 10. Zero heat and I mean zero i have a 1-year lease and winter is REALLY coming so I guess I'm really screwed SMH. At night the apartments get so cold that The floors feel like ice. To be walking around the house with hoodies is crazy if i say so myself, this is an un-human like condition to live under my apartment building is infested with roaches and mice but HEY Luxury right :) The other reviews are Very accurate The water goes out in this building every month. Just walk into the building with a red notice from the town of EAST ORANGE saying the plumbing failed inspection what a joke, pull that off the front door don't want the people to know why their ZERO heat. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!! you have been warned
I’ve been living here for 6 months and I’ve never hated living anywhere the way I hate living here. The cost of the rent does not represent the quality of living that is provided. Firstly, the property manager does not tell the truth. For starters, the day I moved in, I found roaches in my kitchen. I asked the property manager about it and she said that the unit would be on a weekly extermination schedule. An exterminator never visited my apartment until I requested it. She also told me that my tub was brand new. The tub is painted over but NOT brand new. I’ve had a mouse in my apartment. You would think that they would fill any holes that the found permanently but no, they just put steel wool in the holes. The hot water that is included in the cost of the rent but it doesn’t get very hot at all, it’s warm at best. My first week living in the apartment I had to take three cold showers. At random, without warning, the water can be shut off altogether. The hallways and stairways are not kept clean. The apartments are spacious and have loads of closet space but do do other well kept apartment buildings. PLEASE do yourself a favor. DO NOT rent here.
I submitted the application, paid the fee and submitted all documents necessary. I work hard, make good money, have good credit, including no evictions. Was turned down by a building that allows someone to hang a sheet out the window. What is this world coming too?! Think they did me a favor. Amen
The apartments are very cold!!! I was informed from the management on sight that if the temperature in the apartments are above 70 degrees then the heat will not go on. I was also advised that in order for me and my children to be warm aka comfortable we would have to use a heater and pay a $150 and better light bill. Also At night the apartments get so cold that The floors feel like ice and you think at that point the heat will turn on, Absolutely not!!!! I will stay until my lease is up because I’m sure to loose my deposit if I leave after only being here 6 months, but this is un human like conditions to live under. Not to mention there’s no hot water At least twice a week after 8 pm. So if your ok with living in an igloo then this is the spot for you.
So many wonderful reviews in a short time? This is sad. Fix things in this old building, replace management and employees that make the place look just as bad, and stop asking people to lie. Maybe some people just don’t know any better. If that’s the case I feel sorry for them. This place leaves a lot to be desired….
I have lived here for 3 years and chose this apartment building especially for the space it provides. The office management has always been attentive to my needs and requests. I would recommend Harclay Apartments.
a minute agoNEW I was a resident at Harclay house for almost 2 years. I would recommend living here because the apartments are large in size with beautiful floors and closet space. The maintenance team is very responsive. What made my stay enjoyable was the professionalism and friendly service that was provided by Samantha in the management office. All my needs were quickly addressed by her and and Hanely.
The building is great so far. I transferred here from one of the other Shamco properties and the process was quick and easy thanks to the help of Samantha in the Management office. Samantha is easy to talk to, accommodating, and accessible. The maintenance staff does a great job of keeping the property clean and well maintained. My apartment is spacious and has a new renovated kitchen. I also like that the laundry room is available at any time of the day.
I have received quality service from the Building Staff each time I request help.!I am a long time Resident and I appreciate all that The Staff do for Me Especially as a Senior Citizen. Thank You,Staff.
Since moving here several years ago I am and still very pleased with this complex. They are constantly updating the building and keeping things neat at all times. I enjoy how big my apartment is as well since most apartments now are very small. These are huge with lots of closets and updated appliances.
The apartments registered as Harclay House are amongst the best kept in East Orange and the environs though not the newest. Equipped with a state of the art gym, tidy grounds, two laundry sections, close to public transportation, huge rooms with modern appliances and less than thirty minutes to Manhattan. The management staff have a keen eye for detail hence issues are dealt with quickly as efficiently.
I have been a resident of Harclay House for 22 years and I have seen the highs and lows. Currently we are on the highest we have been in years and it looks like it only going up from here. Management has been amazing in the past few years. The management team responses quickly and efficiently. There is always an upgrade in place plus I feel these are the largest apartments down S. Harrison St.
This whole building complex is false advertisement. To promote yourself as a luxury building complex is an insult. The hallways have old dirty smelly commercial carpeting , the door knobs fall off the units doors every time they are turned, the entrance way is a giant pothole damaging to every vehicle that enters the property, only two visitor parking spaces available with two hour parking with no street parking for guests in site. The elevator is a pre war that obviously has not been serviced in years, the wash/dryers don’t work . Don’t let the nice air conditioned front lobby fool you. These apartments are entirely way over priced and shamco really needs to get it togather being that the rest of the block is being suberly constructed.
I have been living at Harclay House for a few years and I absolutely love it. The building is clean, pet friendly and the management always go the extra mile to address whatever issue arise. Overall Harclay House is close to public transport which makes it a skip n hop to Manhattan, lovely park with sporting facilities plus an on-site state of the art gym.
I feel as though these negative reviews must be from a different time of management and service. since i moved in in late November i have had nothing less that a great experience. the building manager Samantha works incredibly hard and it shows. I building is cleaned and maintained. Modernized technology in regards to building amenities, cellphone is used for both entering the building, doing laundry etc etc. nothing is nicer than being able to let my friends in while im away from the building. work orders are filled out in a timely manner, even for the most mundane things. gym on site which was perfect during the height of covid-19. all in all i can say the only time i would leave is if i upgraded to a home. you wont regret moving here :D.
Heat was on in the summer time, and no heat in the winter time. Parking spots were very hard to come by. The lady in the management office is beyond nasty. Roaches and mice are prevalent, and when it snows there is no one to come and clean the parking lot. Tried to break my lease due to the horrific conditions and was sent a eviction notice. would not recommend this apartment to anyone.
Harclay House Apartments are beautiful and spacious. I recently moved in last month and I love it! Building is nice and clean and in the perfect location. Shopping centers are in walking distance and highways are within minutes! The staff is also very friendly. Samantha, the property manager is AMAZING! She helped me find the perfect apartment and made sure it was ready on time. Fitness Center and laundry room onsite is also nice and clean. And did I mention pet friendly?! I definitely recommend!
I am a current resident. Before moving here, I only had a couple things in mind for my apt. I wanted a virtual tour (I had no intent on physically being present due to me living so far away), queen size bedroom, a living room, and pest free apt. We were a little leary because of the heating and pest reviews I found online but I asked Samantha about every review. She told me within a month of me living here there would be a permanent solution to the heating problem. They had a permanent boiler installed the next week. She told me the building didn’t have any pest issues. We havent seen one bug or rat. And she told us we would have a lot of space. We have more than enough. From the very start she was honest and I appreciated that soooooo much. She’s really the only reason why we are living here. There’s not too many leasing agents/property managers in Jersey that are actually honest. We have a lot of space in the apartment. The super, Hanley, is very nice and has a quick turnaround when it comes to problems that arise for his residents. The only con we have is the windows. They shut but there is a little draft that creeps through. Other than that we love our apartment
Been here for 6months the water goes off to many times to count, there hasnt been any heat, these last 6six days have been freezing and there hasnt been any heat and the managment company has not addressed itx nor have they contacted the tenants apologing. I had my oven on since friday 11/8/19. These apartments ARE NOT luxury, the are advertising online new apartments , but youd be lucky to get one of those apartments. The rent is cheap, and so is everything else in this building. You csn see patchy work on the walls, where there had to be some type of water damage etc.. Do yourself a favor and do not move here. Youve been warned!!
Affordable luxury and high-rise. The staff is responsive. can't ask for more!
I love the Gym and the laundry room is very easy To use and up to date. The Property Manager is amazing and very people friendly. As a plus if you commute via Train, the station (Brick Church) is not even a half a mile away! If you have pets they also allow them.
I moved here from the Big Apple and was a nervous wreck searching for apartments in New Jersey. From the minute I stepped foot to view the apartment Samantha was beyond amazing. Her professionalism and demeanor made me feel very comforting and welcoming. Meeting her I knew that I had came to the right spot. The building and area is very quiet. The apartment is very spacious with lots of closet space. I been here for a little minute now and I haven't had any issues with the apartment. However, any questions I had Samantha and staff were always on top of it quickly. Harclay thank you for all your service!
very roomy apartments, newly renovated. staff on site is very friendly and helpful. neighbors are very friendly as well!!
Harclay House apartments is a nice building to live in with beautiful and spacious apartments.the residents in the building are very friendly, and the superintendent and employees are hard workers that take their job very seriously. Since i moved in a few months ago I’ve only had one problem in my apartment with my sink, i brought it to the main office attention and the got to it the next day. That’s the good thing about Harclay House apartments they’re fast, on time, and i never once had to remind me or repeat myself about a issue in my apartment.
I never write reviews..However, I must share the thus bc no one seems to be writing it. Moved in 5/5/19 noticed a leaking wall. Immediately called for maintenance..1st red flag. To make a long story short, its 5/31 and its still not fixed. I had to em them to find out whats going on? the neglect is kind of sad, all of this in less than 5days and counting. It seems like theres only 1 maintenance super for thid 8 story bldg. The apt is huge, rent is fine.BUT the apt is quick fixed/renovated, not as advertised, small cabinets(not ceiling to counter)dated microwave & stove old peepholes & unstabled doors etc..The excuses I received when I mentioned what was seen vs what you got..unbelievable(dont let the pics fool you,nor ur visit to an apt) bc i didnt get what I saw. Old bldg. I get it. But dont put newly renovations, and its NOT.they didn't even make my apt "look" like new. To date no repairs done, and on "hold" for supplies.huh?? Its only been 32 and counting... Go figure. Please dont let the smiles fool you. A new tenant shouldnt have to encounter these issues.
May I start off saying how amazing Samantha is?! During my search for a new home, I encountered several property managers & although some places were nice, those individuals failed at making me want to live there. Samantha’s demeanor was so warm & welcoming. Harclay already had me with the enormous closets (something u simply don’t find anymore) & charm of the building, but knowing that building comes with someone who genuinely cares about the happiness & safety of its tenants was the icing on the cake. I truly cannot wait to move in.
I'm so grateful for Samantha she was very helpful and proffessional. We will be moving in May 1st and I'm very excited!! She keeps this building in tip top shape. I would definitely recommend this property especially If she's running it. Please give her my thanks again.
I've been in Harclay House for 5 years and never thought I would see the day when change would come. The actual workers have been great but the on site managers were outright nasty and rarely resolved any problems. Now there is this new young lady in the office the building is cleaner there is a new gym and the outdated laundromat is currently being renovated . I strongly suggest new comers to give this residency a shot moving forward.
I've lived at Harclay House for over 1.5 years. The apartments are huge and the building staff are awesome, especially Samantha and Mr. Handley. They go above and beyond to make sure the building is beautiful and repairs are done in a timely manner. Thank you, Samantha (Property Manager) and Mr. Handley (Super) for keeping a nice building.
Samantha was extremely helpful! My mother and I were looking for a place to live on short notice and we we’re approved immediately. She made sure we were equipped with everything. The place is spacious and clean, I would refer Samantha to all as well as this building
The apartments here are awesome. I moved here back in April and I am very happy and pleased with my choice. The bldg is very clean and I haven't seen any bugs or rodents here at all. The neighbors are pretty quiet and nice. You pretty much only see ppl coming and going , no one is ever hanging out or loitering around. The workers go out the way to appease you and any problems I have had have been taken care of immediately with no hassle. The train is right down the block from the bldg which makes for a nice commute to NYC. The street the bldg is on is very quiet and shaded with beautiful trees. I am very happy I chose here to be my home because the experience has been beautiful thus far & I plan to make this my home for a long time.
The apartments here are great compared to other building for the same price. They have huge rooms that my husband can roll through in his wheel chair. The kitchens are big and roomy and the bathrooms are phenomenal. If you ever have a problem there is help just a phone call away. Parking in a lot that is under surveillance camera 24 hours daily. Lighting is good and bright so everything can be seen by the camera's so I feel safe. Soon we will have a fitness room completed
Great place to live that is close to everything that you need. Nice sized apartments. NYC is 25 mins by train and you can also be FISHING within 30 mins.... awesome sauce. The office manage Sam keeps the building running smoothly. All in all... not moving anytime soon......
Hello, Apartment hunters, I have to say, writing this review has got me and my partner so excited because we can finally express how we really feel about our new apartment. First of I would like to thank the Management office of Harclay apartments. Coming into a building so lovely and well put together, clean and dog friendly,Inviting and forthcoming, The office manager has such an inviting personality. When we arrived we said we would think about it, but the minute she showed us a viewing of the place we fell in love with the apartment. we love the hardwood floors, new kitchen with granite counter tops and even a dishwasher, a new built in closets and so much space. we decided to take an offer and we were accepted in 2 days. I have an average credit rating, and trust me the company approved me and my partner. I have now been living here for 1 month and half and I'm getting ready to plant ourselves with Harclay(Shamco) and New Management (Samantha) for a very long time. To me I can express this paragraph with true joy and happiness, because it changed my way of thinking and definitely my life. Thank you Shamco and Thank you Samantha for making it happen. Im an actual customer and I have been looking for an apartment for a very long time. Now I found it with peace of mind. -Ricardo S. & Bryson E.
A very pleasant place to live. On site mangement is professional and helpful.
Harclay house apartments are fantastic the apartments are huge, and very modern and up to date i havent had any problems with bugs or mice unlike my old aoartment building. My son use to live here a long time ago and it wasnt the nicest of places back then but they've turned it around and now its gorgeous and spotless the lobby is so clean and now they're building a gym in the building for tenets to attend. The way this building is you would think it was expensive but its not, its a great price that even the college students can afford. Its a building i feel safe in and dont have to worry thay my grandkids may not be safe in this area. Its a quiet area and the building has great views of newyork city. I wouldnt want to live any where else my prayers where answered when we found this place. My family is very happy.
Harclay House has been a great place to reside!! The apartments are HUGE and very nicely renovated. My unit has all new appliances - even a dishwasher. I was a little nervous moving in because of the past review but they have really turned the building around!! I have no issues in the building and any request i have the management company is very quick to respond.
DO NOT MOVE there. They have Roaches, Mice, Warerbugs and bed bugs. They always have plumbing issue essoecially with the hot water. Yess the renevated everything BUT the pests are always gonna be there no matter how nice the apartment looks PLEASE DONT MOVE THERE...
I just came to Visit Harclay apartments and I'm very happy with how many closets they have and how big the apartment is
