West Indianapolis contains residential and industrial areas and hosts many factories and manufacturing sites that employ thousands of Indianapolis residents. West Indianapolis lies southwest of downtown, bordered to the east by the White River, which stretches for miles. It holds a variety of restaurants, grocery stores, some shopping, a few parks, and a major interstate. House sizes remain modest, giving the area a small-town feel near the city. Those looking to live close to the downtown core find West Indianapolis a good fit.

Property Ratings at Harding Street Lofts
There is a train track about 150 meters away that runs trains 10-15 times per day that you will hear, walls are paper thin. The new PM also threatened to tow my car for resurfacing after giving 2 days notice via email over a weekend, she refused to accept my 30 days notice, and charged me extra rent when I moved out. Beautiful building but poor construction and poorly managed.
While my initial experience here was decent, the noise has escalated to an unbearable level. I can hear my neighbors on the phone at all hours, as if they're in the same room. The most distressing part is being subjected to their intimate moments, especially the disruptive activities at 3 am. Sadly, I feel compelled to advise potential renters to steer clear of this apartment due to the worsening noise situation.
Amazing place to live. The location is perfect, far enough from downtown to escape the hustle and bustle, but close enough to be part of city life. The best courtyard you'll ever see (with plenty of chairs, recliners, tables, grills, and a fire pit!). A well equipped fitness center. The staff is the best amenity though. Cameron, the manager, is legit the nicest person you will ever meet. Right from the beginning, she went the extra mile: when I first moved in, I arrived after office hours, but Cameron provided me with clear pictures and instructions on where my unit was and the best place to unpack. She is always doing something for the residents, whether its holiday events, free food, or inviting food trucks to hang out in the parking lot for an evening. Tim, who does maintenance, is just an all around great guy: when he found out I didn't have a bike, he offered me one that had been abandoned by a previous resident. The one time I needed maintenance done in my unit, Tim resolved the issue quickly and completely. Missy does an amazing job with keeping the place clean: every single time I brought someone over, they always compliment how the place looked--BEFORE we even got into the unit! I really cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you Cameron, Tim, Missy, not enough places work hard to make sure their residents' living situation is the least of their worries. My only complaint is that you've set the standard too high!

Thank you so much! We hope you are enjoying your new home!
I had a package from Fedex that had gone missing for a week, FedEx couldn’t tell me anything. Cameron the office manager went above and beyond to help me and we finally found my package in a parcel locker after her help!! Maintenance is always extremely helpful and friendly too. 5/5 stars

Thank you so much Rachel! It has been a pleasure to have you and Reza!
I would not live here if you like to have company over or if you like to sleep in peace. Between the lack of guest parking and the loud train that goes by 5 times a day and 4 times a night I can confidently say I would not live here again. Management is terrible and unprofessional and also changes frequently. There are less than 15 guest parking spots for 200 tenants. It makes no sense. Walls are paper thin you can hear everything your neighbor is doing. Pros: Cute rustic feel and close to down town.

Hello. Thank you for your comments. While the train does produce noise at night, unfortunately, it is a requirement to honk the horn when crossing an intersection for safety reasons. We have implemented a temporary solution for the guest parking as this has been brought to our attention from other residents. A resident may now stop by the office to obtain a guest pass. We welcome additional correspondence about the issues you have with the professionalism of management. Please feel free to reach out to the manager with any additional concerns.
Management will try to nickel and dime you for everything. Walls are paper thin. Management is not respectful of residents privacy. The maintenance man was a great guy and I liked the high ceilings. Overall, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.

Pros: Location, price, amenities, this place has got CHARACTER :) Cons: Noise, sawdust from ceilings, high management turnover My Story: I've lived at HSL for almost two years now in a two bed/two bath and I'm planning to move into a one bed at the end of July for my third year here. I haven't had too many noise issues, but my room is on the top floor and on the NW corner of the building, so I have two outside wall, my roommate and our common area bordering my room (I'm a little spoiled, probably). If you can swing the 4th floor, it is a little quieter and the rain on the roof is so relaxing. The exposed brick, concrete floors and original 12-14ft wood ceiling are great as well (except that in high wind when the building shakes, there will occasionally be saw dust from the ceiling). The appliances are still relatively new and while only of middling quality, they work well. Whenever I've had issues (clogged drain, leaky faucet... nothing major) service has always been very quick and professional. They've also let us modify the apartment a bit, which was nice; we added a black steel pipe (same as the exposed sprinkler pipes) from a wall to a wood pillar to hang our pots and pans on in the kitchen. The tenant before us also added a light switch and a ceiling box, to which I added some home-made lights. All in all, I'm very pleased with HSL, they've been good to us/me despite the high management turnover rate and compared to other places downtown, it's very competitive, if not the best.
This complex is just as nice,if not nicer, as the apartments downtown in the heart of the city and the price is great for its location! It is less than a mile and a half to the city center of Indy. The canal, which is absolutely beautiful and always bustling with people and their pets, is about a 10 minute walk away. The fitness area is huge and up to date with 4 giant flat screen tvs to keep you entertained. The courtyard is very pretty with a flat screen tv as well and seating. There are also 2 brand new gas grills that are free for tenants to use. The only issue is the noise. I sleep with a fan on so I don't hear much, but if you are sitting silent in your apartment at 6pm you will definitely hear your neighbors tv very clearly. That is the only complaint I have. The brick wall in each apartment is awesome and the stainless steel appliances are a huge plus, along with the loft-style 13ft. ceilings.
