Recognized as one of America’s most historic neighborhoods, Germantown dates back centuries all the way to 1683. Even though it’s one of the oldest settlements in the city, Germantown has a relaxed and friendly vibe about it.
And speaking of its historic vanity – the Cliveden Estate’s backyard was the site of the 1777 Battle of Germantown. Along its main thoroughfare, a 2.5-acre rose garden flourishes with brightly-colored blooms at the Wyck House. Locals gather at the Johnson House – which was a stop on the Underground Railroad – to join in the Juneteenth Festival. The Revolutionary Germantown Festival is held every October and features reenactments of the Battle of Germantown.
Outside of their affordable apartments, locals can be found exploring Fernhill Park or dining at delicious eateries. Locals look forward to easy commutes to work by way of two SEPTA rail lines.

OMG Marquita, the leasing agent, is absolutely the best ever! I cannot say enough how she helped me! She is very knowledgeable in her chosen profession. She answers all my questions and concerns and displays so much kindness and empathy towards the residents as well....Hathaway House is just not an apartment building, it is a home with caring people all around you:) Welcome Home! Thank you so much Marquita for everything....you are the heart and soul Hathaway House:)

We appreciate the time you took to give us such a great rating! We're thrilled Marquita left such a great impression! We'll be sure to pass your compliments along to her!
First of all I want to say I have enjoyed living in the Hathaway House over the past few years, but this past year has seen the bloom quickly fall from the rose. Where to begin? Dogs - Like a previous review mentions there has been an influx of dogs introduced into the building. This is a flagrant violation of the terms. Emotional support dog is a bogus classification, these are not service dogs. There is a difference. A service dog is a dog trained to do a specific task and is a working dog. An emotional support animal is a term people created to bring dogs into spaces that they are typically not allowed or welcome. Suspect fees - We are now being charged upon renewal, a shady 120.00 "administration fee," What this really is is another rent increase above the agreed upon rate. It is slipped into the renewal letter toward the bottom. What does that cover? What are we paying for exactly? Also we are being charged $50 for the new 1980's throwback lobby no one asked for, (and its construction that inconvenienced us for months), and the gym that no one asked for and many of us do not use. Usually upgrades are a normal capital expense and are used as a selling point for prospective tenants. I don't see why we, the long term residents, should have to foot this charge. Staff Turnover - Perry, our longtime maintenance supervisor was let go. This is a true loss to the residents who have come to consider him like a part of the family. Theresa, who for many, is the true manager of this building and also its beating heart has announced her upcoming retirement. That will also be a huge loss. The building itself is great. Tons of closet space, solid mid-century construction, large balconys and well maintained. Great neighbors who look out for one another. Sadly after my current lease term expires, I will be looking to reside elsewhere.

Thanks for taking time to rate and review Hathaway House. If time allows, please call me at 215-887-8400. I can discuss in detail any fees and the numerous improvements established at Hathaway House over the last year. Thank you. ~ Kristen McLaughlin, Regional Manager
To start of positive, this is a great location, nice neighborhood. Most of the tenants are friendly. The front desk ladies are wonderful. Building is pretty secure. The pet policy is untrue. It says cats with a limit of 2. If that was true there would not be FOUR dogs living here. Without a warning all of a sudden you see and HEAR dogs. If you are allergic or are afraid of dogs or just dont want to hear barking at any time of day or NIGHT, this place is not for you. There are a few other lovely buildings in the neighborhood that cater to dogs, the Hathaway is not supposed to. Many tenets have complained ..for they choose to live here because of pet policy. There is a rumor that these are emotional support pets. That's understandable however again there are other apartment buildings across and up the street that cater to dogs. Myself and other have been woken up at 5 am due to barking, 1030 pm due to barking and that's not including the barking heard in the hallways. Many of us have started to look for other apartments that do not allow dogs but oddly enough a few of them say if you can provide documents from doctors that your dog is for emotional support, they will go against policy, even nix the monthly pet fee and deposit. That is nice but completely unfair to those of us that do not want to deal with particular pets or any pets for our own medical reasons, fear or just want a good night's sleep.

Thanks for taking time to rate and review Hathaway House. I'm sorry to hear the emotional support dogs are disturbing your sleep. When time allows, please call me at 215-887-8400 to discuss. Thank you. ~ Kristen McLaughlin, Regional Manager
The building and neighborhood is great. For several months, there have been issues with management. Many have emailed and left messages ( cannot get a live person) and receive no response. Even people that have tried to get a tour of a few apartments are having issues with not getting a live person and not getting call backs. The major issue that most of us complain about is parking. There is garage parking that you pay monthly and an upper level free parking lot. People will park hazardously in the lot, if there are no spots available. There seems to be no rules or penalties, for nearly blocking other cars in. There have been many complaints to management. Another issue is the front desk. There used to be 2 people that worked for Scully and 2 that worked for security company. The 2 that worked under Scully retired and there have been numerous front desk people. It's a shame because they aren't around enough to know the tenants and rules. Another issue is that they've added a $50 annual fee to upkeep a gym that not many use and cleaning for the new bright white furniture. When asked when this annual fee would take place, no response. You soon find out, it's when you renew your lease. A good point is maintenance. Perry and Teresa have seemed to be here for a long time and have a nice team and do a great job. You see the teams cleaning around the building, inside the building and are quick to fix issues in your apartments.

I have lived at HH for a little under 2 years, and my experience has been phenomenal! The security guards are courteous and look out for all residents. The maintenance staff, especially Perry and Teresa, go above and beyond, as well as always being timely in answering requests. Excellent amenities, including a beautiful rooftop pool, new gym, and business center all available with no extra cost. I have never lost a package, which was a huge issue in my previous Philly living situation. It is a huge plus to have both garage and lot parking available, and the wonderful balconies in each apartment truly elevate the living space. With spacious apartments, and the friendly neighbors, I so enjoy living at HH, and would recommend it to anyone! 10/10 living experience at HH! -SN

Thank you for the wonderful review! We will be sure to share your compliments with Perry and Teresa, as they love to hear when residents are happy. Have an awesome week. - Hathaway House Management Team
I have lived in Hathaway House since August 2017. I relocated to HH after living at AP for 7 years and wanted to remain in the area. Let me tell you. . . . this is the best decision that I could have made, I should have moved here after Scully ended it's management relationship w/ AP. Although the structure is an older building and we are in Germantown (charm, convenience and wildlife), I cannot fully express the joy, peace and tranquility I experience at HH. I truly enjoy my private, spacious balcony, my deluxe 1 bedroom is endowed with ample closet space and my dwelling enjoys beautiful natural light each day. HH has the best staff anyone could ask for Sun, Theresa and Perry go over and above to ensure that residents feel respected, cared for and valued. Our mailman and a few of the security guards - are like family. It is nice to come home and find many of my neighbors seated in the lobby, enjoying interesting conversations and generously offering warm smiles. There are many planned resident gatherings throughout the year. We have a panoramic view of the city skyline from our rooftop pool and now a well furnished gym. Other amenities include 24 hours security guards, key fob entrances, on site medical office suites, 24 hour maintenance, on-site outdoor and garage parking and secure package delivery/acceptance. HH is one of the best keep secrets and values in this area!

Wow, thank you for taking the time to write such a glowing review. It is always nice to hear when staff members like Sun, Theresa and Perry are recognized for doing a great job. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything. Hathaway House Management Team
I was one of those people without heat for several weeks and despite my patience and follow up nothing happened until I called the Scully office. The same thing just happened with my A/C last month and again it took several weeks to get prepared. I had to follow up to get things moving. I may as well work for Scully. I have lived here for many years and never saw mice until last month. I reported this to the office and an exterminator came and did nothing. How do I know? I still have a mouse in my apartment. I had to put down traps. They remodeled the space on the first floor after many years, at least five years. The space that was a restaurant for decades was left empty and unused. I am sure it was mice infested and now those mice are running through the building. Perhaps some forethought could have been exercised to kill these vermin. Anyway, after many years of happiness living here, I cannot wait to vacate this place! I hate it here now! Very unfortunate! Management makes all the difference.

Hathaway House used to be a nice residence. You'll notice other reviews here and elsewhere are from years ago. Since new management came in, however, it's been one problem after another. Several tenants have gone without heat during the winter while waiting for maintenance to fix it. The new security people don't know any of the rules, how things are run here, and haven't been told what they're supposed to be doing. No one properly maintains the property, and as a result, a huge tree fell and crushed half of the cars in the parking lot. One of the only two elevators has been constantly malfunctioning and out of order. My neighbor's water was out for two days. Lights are out in the stairwell that's supposed to be an emergency exit or alternative to the elevator. It's neglected and never cleaned. What used to be a nice, friendly atmosphere with tenants who socialized for years has soured with the presence of new management. I've lived here for over five years and thought I'd never leave. It felt like home. As soon as my lease is up in a few months, I'm straight up gone. I'm not the only one, and I'm not sure I'd trust any Scully Company residence after such a dramatic reversal in quality of life.

Thanks for taking time to review Hathaway House. I am sorry to hear that you are unsatisfied after 5 years of being a resident. I believe there may be some sort of miscommunication. Although heat and water may have stopped working temporarily, service has ever stopped for days. One of the elevators may occasionally need to be serviced, but it is back up and running in a day. The Maintenance Team typically has a one-day turnaround time as well. I am open to discussing everything in further detail if you like and can be reached directly at 215-887-8400. Please feel free to call me at your convenience. Thank you. ~ Kristen McLaughlin, Regional Manager
I have been living in Hathaway House for 2 months and I have liked it so far. This is a high rise building and view from living room window is awesome. Adjoining patio makes it lively. Apartments are very spacious. Maintenance is good and they are prompt in responding. There is always a person at front desk 24x7 and he/she is always very helpful. If you have a big courier package delivery and you are not at home--no worries--person at front desk will collect it for you. Availability of assigned indoor parking is a plus. Rent is reasonable for apartment size as compared to other apartment complexes nearby. Grocery shops and shopping places are at walking distances. Septa train station to go to center city is at stone throw distance. Apartment complex is very quiet except some noise pollution from adjoining busy road if your windows are open. This is the only reason I am giving rating of four. If you are a health freak, big fairmount park is at walking distance where you can go for a jog or walk. Manager Corey here is very cooperative and tries his best to fix any problem. Overall, I definitely recommend this apartment.
Hathaway house is located at a great location. It's walkable distance to Forbidden drive of fairmont park if you likes hiking, biking, and sightseeing. It's close to Drexel medical school, Philadelphia University, PCOM, Temple health science campuses. It is 10 min drive to Manayunk from Lincoln drive where movie theater and restaurant located. 10 min drive to city ave, and 20 min to museum and center city. Hathaway house has a roof top pool opening from memorial to Labor Day weekend. It was a great view. Many seats available. However, due to no lifeguard present, make sure accompany with friends who can swim or stay at the shallow end. Pool depth ranged from 4-7 feet. Online maintenance request is very convenient. Staffs are very friendly. They also respond to maintenance very fast. Securities are present 24 hour and there are security cameras around the building. I feel safe parking at the outdoor lot. There is indoor lot available for additional charge. Laundry room is on every floor. Residents are quiet.
Hathaway House is like a little community. The majority of tenents are very friendly a great deal of the tenents have lived at the Hathaway for over 10 years, it feels like home. The staff is great. On call matinence. Just comfortable living.
I have been living at Hathaway House's 1 bedroom Deluxe apartment for almost a year now and it has truly been a great experience. The management is really nice and helpful and so are other residents in the building. After living in a rather bad apartment before moving into Hathaway House, I was looking for a nice apartment where I can have my family and friends over. And I must say Hathaway House has truly been that apartment. It has convenient access to Septa and the groceries stores are also at walkable distance.
