Property Ratings at Heatherwood Apartments - A Senior Community
I have lived at Heatherwood for over a year. It is a beautiful place to live. The units are very nice and the grounds are amazing. You really do feel as if you are in the county I feel safe and management goes the extra mile to make this feel like home. I highly recommend Heatherwood
3 groups of apartments each enclosing a courtyard of varying sizes, each one different and charming. Some witn small yards. I love the space and my apartment is adorable! That said, current management is not compatible with the easygoing nature of the complex. They are tight-fisted to the point of cheapness in maintaining the grounds and the complex ( more than the usual concern for economy) They have no sense of what is in good taste versus just plain tacky and cheap. Projects are often left half done until complaints are made and even then it takes too long. 2 years ago I was told that they were working on making the complex smoke-free. Absolutely nothing has been done toward this commitment. The residents are quite friendly as a rule. MGMT. has poor communication skills and seldom sharesInformation in helpful ways. Sometimes quite hostile. If you can avoid dealing with MGMT. this is a delightful wonderful place to live.
I have lived at Heatherwood for 21 years, and I liked living with the last owners but I have seen such improvements and actions on your part that makes me forget the old management. You have done so much in a short amount of time. I am enjoying my stay here more than ever, and i want to thank you so much for your action. I give the new managers an A on listening to our concerns. as one example, they are doing the gutters tomorrow which haven't been done in 10 years!
I moved here late summer of last year. While they are an older building they are quick to take care of the residents the best way they can. The new manager is great! She is very helpful and positive. When the gas went out in 6 of the 11 buildings, she quickly provided an electric skillet, hot plate, and warmed up the bathrooms of empty units to make us feel as comfortable as possible. It was unreasonable for the owners to provide hotels rooms for 62 households. The team worked every day, to resolve this quickly. The manager personally walks around everyday, making herself available to any questions that residents pose to her. When people are ill, she takes care to check on them, and on several occasions she has taken meals to them knowing that they can't cook for themselves. She has created a very friendly ambiance and takes every maintenance issue reported seriously and follows up with a phone call to check that the residents are satisfied. The complex is obviously going through a renovation. There is a new a.c. system going in Phase I, replacing the system in Phase II and III. They are installing a new irrigation system, and will top that off with new sod this month. The new fence around the expanded garden (yes, we have a vegetable garden with plots that we can reserve) will include raised beds. They are installing a new stair ladder for seniors instead of a vertical ladder. I am very satisfied and most of the residents are very happy to see the upgrades. The two negative reviews are obviously from disgruntled tenants, and do NOT reflect the majority of the residents. It is a happy community, with long term residents who would never chose to move. We have come to love our new manager and appreciate her kindness and attention. We have a monthly pot luck dinner and she has upgraded these events, with real plates, and silverware, not picnic disposable plates. She decorates the tables and clubhouse for each occasion, and provides music for our dinners. She increased our activities. The Partners who have built and owned the complex have been best friends since middle school. Last week, one of them passed away. The turmoil of losing a partner was not felt in any maintenance or renovation project-the team just kept going. We were sorry to hear of Mr. Smith's passing but impressed with the 'step up game' of Mr. Buffington. I highly recommend living here. I love living here and hope that my friends move here too.
My friend's mother moved into Heatherwood. She loves the attention the new manager has given her in recommending services she needs and getting settled in her new apartment. The owners are onsite every day and they care about their residents and their property. The maintenance staff is super, they are quick and very knowledgeable. The whole staff is warm and friendly and very polite and respectful. The pool is going to be fun for her to use once spring and summer come around. There are a few problems with one building but they are very focused on it and are getting it repaired even in the cold of winter! The new manager is not changing any rules or rates as other reviews have stated. I think they are blaming her for the owner's decisions. No one likes change but she is professional, respectful and has brought many great things to Heatherwood such as lots of fun activities and upgraded the kitchen and clubroom downstairs, that doubles as a storm shelter. We have a lot of amenities here at Heatherwood and she is very happy that she moved here.
The majority of tenants do not care for the new property manager. There is an unease from the older tenants who are afraid their rent will increase (it already increases each renewal of lease) if they complain about the pipes being too small, the heat & cooling or the hot/cold water not working (sometimes for days), not to mention the flooding caused from air conditioning pans overflowing in apartments. They offer an apartment to shower in for ALL tenants when hot/cold water not working for days. There are 3 phases to complex so different problems, different times & different phases. Owners & management want everyone to be like a family, however, they now have a new "stepmother" very few (if any) care for. They also have a Grand Piano setting there (unused) & large chandelier in the new offices. Could have used monies on fixing existing problems for long time loyal tenants. Have moved to newer place with cooperative management & owners.
