Nearby Fort Sam Houston creates jobs and attracts military families and veterans, but people from all walks of life live in this area.
There are plenty of local amenities and entertainment options, many within walking distance. There are a large variety of chain restaurants, local eateries, major department stores, and quaint shops along Austin Highway and Harry Wurzbach Road. Have a bite to eat at the landmark restaurant Bun’n’Barrel, a 1950s era diner serving Texan barbecue, milkshakes, and burgers. If you’re looking for more to do, Midtown and downtown are less than 25 minutes away. No matter your place in life, you can find something to love about this neighborhood.

Property Ratings at Heights at 515
This is a quiet, low-cost apartment complex in a great area. The old adage, you get what you pay for, is very true in this case. The beloved property manager everyone talks about in the reviews is gone. The buildings are very old, and the complex is currently (Sept. 2022) suffering from an intense insect infestation. Waterbugs, roaches, and trillions of ants. At one point the property manager divulged to me that as many as 75% of the units on the property are infested with ants. My neighbor has spread a thick layer of Sevendust around her entire unit. I just found ants in my bed. They offer a weekly pest control visit, but the inconsistency of treatment (just once a year for the entire complex) means that critters scurry from apartment to apartment between treatment without ever really being dealt with. We've had pest control in our unit multiple times, and the infestation is worse than when we first moved in. There are some very simple solutions (a full-property pest treatment more than once a year, rotating treatment schedule building-by-building, cleaning food and debris that is all over the complex) that involve money, but I'm guessing the discount nature of the complex prevents whoever is managing it now from actually dealing with the problem. Each unit seems to be covered in paint between residents, and we have had problems with the very sticky paint they use permanently attaching itself to anything we put in the cabinets. The chiller A/C system that is linked to every apartment works well and is pretty cost efficient. You can change your own thermostat, the choice of Heat or Cold is made for the entire complex at the chiller unit. There are some strange weeks in the Spring where we were left without heat for a week during sub 45-degree temps because "it is only going to be cold for a week." To compound the A/C issues, the actual inner workings of the A/C unit in the apartments themselves are terrible. We have experienced around 10 A/C unit leaks into our hallway in the less than 9 months we've lived here. The maintenance team is very nice and comes to "resolve" the issue each time without complaint, but inevitably it leaks again. Convenient location to a lot of San Antonio, but the insect infestation has completely turned us away from this property. Renter beware.
We had a brief power outage the other night in the neighborhood. Because our manager lives on the property, she immediately contacted residents. Some management companies are out of town or out of state! Its great to have management right here. Location is awesome. You can walk to more than five restaurants, Target, Corner Store, liquor store, Ross, and dollar store, two pet stores and more. The apartments are nicely appointed and an AMAZING value for this area. Maintenance is spot on. Always courteous and helpful. Private security as well.
We are going on another year here at these apartments which will make it 4 years of making 515 The Heights our home. We love the school district and the area. The apartment management are always quick to respond to our needs. I’ve only had to make a couple of work orders for minor things and each time they came the next day as they stay on top of the work orders. Courtney does a great job at staying communicative with everyone as to anything going on at the apartments. They often plan something for our community to get to know our neighbors. We are definitely happy calling here our home!
