Property Ratings at Heights at Meridian
This is without a doubt the best apartment management team ever. I want to thank Amy for her diligent attention to the residents needs and fair judgements, and Josh for his friendly and kind demeanor, as well as his fantastic treatment do the residents. My wife and I have called the Heights at Meridian home for going on four years, and we can’t think of a better place to call home. Way to go Amy and Josh you guys rock so hard!!
We toured the property with David and loved the design of the apartments and the tranquility of the lake. After moving in, we noticed the lack of management And oversight. I reached out to David regarding an issue and found out he was no longer there. Before moving out, a wall-thru was scheduled with a maintenance man we had come to know as he had come for a maintenance request previously and was friendly with our dog. He stated the apartment looked great and we didn’t need to do anything and even wrote that on the report. We cleaned thoroughly (we only ended up furnishing and using one of the bedrooms) and left the apartment in amazing condition so when we handed the keys to the manager and she didn’t request to see the apartment we didn’t think anything of it because maintenance said everything looked great. However we never received our security deposit back and found out later after moving out of state that they had billed us $1100 for replacing carpet. We were shocked. Only the 2 bedrooms had carpet, the remaining floors were laminate and I said we only used and furnished one bedroom as we had expected to setup for guests. We had cleaned and left the apartment in great condition, we literally thought they mixed us up with someone else. The managers explanation was the maintenance guy thought the carpet looked good but it needed to be replaced, not cleaned but replaced. Outrageous. I believe they charge pet owners upon move-out to make money. Our dog is 6 yrs old, is very well trained and had never ever soiled the floors since he was 4 month old so this whole ordeal makes no sense (not that they accused of soiling it but I cannot understand how they justify it). I would NOT recommend Meridian. Save your money and look for a more responsible community to live in.
Dislike everything about this place. Can't wait to leave.
Staff used to be very responsive and pleasant. Lately they've been abrupt if not outright rude. I've sent 2 emails in the last week and have not received the courtesy of a response to either. There are live and dead Cockroaches throughout the hallways because tenants leave their garbage out all day long even though it's supposed to be only in the evenings awaiting valet trash. Large drunken parties at the pool are an issue. Multiple screaming rednecks unchecked even when staff are on duty. The pool has already been closed this summer for broken glass.
My fiancé and I toured this apartment months ago, scouting the Durham area for potential places. We both were amazed by the complex and most importantly David was so nice and sincere. We were for certain once the time came around to move this was the place, David’s niceness really sealed the deal for us both. I called back in today and I was was shocked by the unprofessionalism from the leasing specialist that I spoke with. I really wish David was still part of the staff.

YES. It is very beautiful and, yes, the staff is very nice and professional. The apartments have attractive crown molding, high ceilings, granite style countertops, and brand new appliances. The grounds are pretty and well-lit at night, and the amenities, such as a salt-water pool, walking trails, valet trash service, online payments, etc. all are awesome. You would think it would be worth it to pay a little extra for all of that. There have been a few little problems like the online payment system not working from time to time, the security gates not working for a few weeks last year, trash not always getting picked up, a communication mix-up about permission to enter my apartment, etc. BUT. I have personally witnessed ongoing criminal activity here, on the property. Sad because it is such a nice place, but true. The building itself is cheaply made. I can hear my neighbors coughing. Really. If I happen to be using the toilet at the same time as my upstairs neighbor... guess what? Kinda gross, but true. Many of my neighbors like to party, LOUDLY. There is no one to call but the police, since the on-site security person doesn't seem to exist anymore. (?) In fact, it seems that several of my neighbors don't understand that they are living in what is supposed to be an upscale community. For example, I came home a few days ago to see what looked like someone's entire week's worth of laundry laid out to dry on their balcony. Classy. Straight across the pretty pond and fountain is a parking lot where people like to gather late at night and blast "music." To be fair, this is not technically apartment property, so I'm not sure they can do anything about it. I don't know if I would recommend this property or not. Maybe a residents's experience varies from building to building, but for me it's been pretty trying.
Good morning! After reading some of the reviews regarding the property not being what they thought, I wanted to also confirm some of the facts. Although the apartments looks like at first glance, the walls are very thin and some of the materials they used are very cheap. The pain in the bathrooms cannot even get a splash of water on them or it will look stained after a while. The security gates are inoperable. They are always breaking down and some of them will even open if you pull on it hard enough. So much for feeling safe. Beware the hidden fees. If you have a pet, they will make you replace the carpet at the end. For the cost of replacement, you would think the carpet was high quality to begin with. It definitely is not that. The amenities are nice and the maintenance staff were pretty good. The management team were not good communicators and please be sure to double check your documents since errors can definitely be found.
If you had asked me a year ago to write a review about this apartment you would have heard nothing but good things. Even after out first week living there and having electrical issue, we chalked it up to it being a new and needing a little tweaking here and there. The apartment itself is very nice, spacious, and exactly what we needed. The staff is friendly and you can tell they try very hard even when the budget for events is gone. Now that we have moved away from The Heights at Meridian it is time to inform any future renters what exactly to expect. If you are looking to bring a pet to these apartments, please note that you are almost guaranteed a ~$1,200 bill at the end of the lease. This charge is to replace the carpet for the entire apartment, that’s right you are replacing the carpet no matter condition. Also expect a threat to go straight to collections if bill is not paid in what they consider a timely manner, leaving little time to actually dispute the claim.
Staff is awesome. I moved in and signed my lease all in one day it was very short notice. They worked with me and made sure everything was perfect. I love my apartment inside and out the community is great. People are very friendly. Definitely see myself here for along time.
The apartments at Heights at Meridian are visually beautiful - granite countertops, great views, stainless steel appliances. The construction is not super nice - our carpet is coming up in corners, nails sticking up, thin walls. But, the amenities, style, and overall atmosphere/ location make it a great place to live.
I love everything about my apartment. When I moved in it was very last minute and I signed my lease that day and moved in that day. It was great the people are amazing and very helpful.
We moved into the brand new apartments at The Heights at Meridian back in August 2014 when construction was just being finished. We of course were awe-struck by the newness and clean feel of the modern styled two bedroom apartments. The office employees were cheerful and so was the maintenance crew, yet maintenance did have to be called several times due to our apartment power being shut off several times due to a faulty exterior locked breaker that was eventually replaced. The styling of the apartments were great with plenty of closet place and large kitchens, but the contractors did a sloppy job in the bathroom tiling and carpet installation. Community amenities are great with a nice big salt water pool, plenty of island style cabana chairs, two propane grills that don't heat evenly, and a clubhouse with nice decor and a modern gym. The free breakfast M-F they try to sell you on is really just a gallon of milk, a box of cereal, and packaged pastries, yet the free coffee machine is great! Now for the fun stuff!! About one month into the lease we decided to get our first puppy! No big deal right?? Well turns out that when we decided to move out recently, the apartment management company has a policy where if they find any urine traces, even after they've been clean on the top of the carpet, they need to replace the entire carpet in the apartment for "hypo-allergenic reasons". We get sent a bill for $1200 and they don't use any of your pet fees for the carpet replacement plus they threaten collections on you if you don't pay quick. Overall, the apartment experience at Meridian was nice, if not very overpriced for the area, and that last stab at us with a carpet replacement fee needs to be mentioned up front to all pet owners. So please don't plan to live here if you want a pet or have a pet now, unless you want to save up the extra $1200 at the end of your stay.
I moved in on October 1, 2014. Everything newly renovated and nice. Granite counter tops, cement-tile floor in bathrooms and kitchen areas. Carpet throughout the rest of apartment. Lovely, large blind-decorated windows. Nice size patio, with additional storage space for lots of no- need now stuff! Plenty of outside or indoor parking. Outside parking free, indoor parking additional. Large and beautiful bathrooms and garden size tubs, toilet not looking you in the face as you bath! Wonderful walk-in closets, with an additional non-walk-in opposite. Spacious galore! Microwave oven, Glass Top Stove, stainless steel appliances, dishwasher. Washer/ Dryer in own apartment. Individual controlled indoor climate. Master building entry (main hallway outside apartment) looks like an upscale hotel entryway. Mailboxes located inside each individual building. Trash pickups from your door.Outdoor surroundings of beautiful fountains and ponds. LOVE IT!!!!
During my first visit to the Heights at Meridian, my roommate and I both were beyond impressed. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. It helped that the staff was excited to show us their "home" to us. Not only was the campus beautiful, but the residents were so friendly as well, it gave a very welcoming and family oriented environment. All of outlet questions were answered directly. During the application process, both my roommate and I lived in different states (both other than NC) and our sales rep was very patient and kind in helping us get all of the information we needed and the paperwork processed. We were welcomed with open arms when we arrived, and are still warmly welcomed whenever we walk into the community building (and they remember us by first name). The amenities are spectacular, service is exceptional. I have yet to come across an issue. We did have an issue with our front door lock, and maintenance was to our apartment within 10 minutes and had it fixed immediately. I am very happy and proud to call this my new home. The staff and community has made this move for my roommate and I very comfortable and worth while.
These apartments are a facade! They lure you in by their flashy amenities and once you move in you notice that its soon turning into a dump and ghetto. The walls are so thin I can hear my neighbor talking and better yet I can hear her dog hounding at all times of the da and night. they also have a lazy maintainance staff, you will see them riding around on their go- carts but not much work is being done. the gates outside the apartments that were suppose to be for " safety" were broken for over 2 weeks, and instead of buying the correct part to fix it they just took it off so the door does not close properly because of this cheap fix. We pay so much in rent for lowsy cheap service and poor products used in apartment. It looks nice on the outside but once you get in you can clearly see where they cut corners to cut cost! also this is suppose to be a luxury neigborhood with professsionals but it seem like they let anyone move here, I wonder if they are even doing back ground checks on some of these residents, there are some young college students that just moved in and they are soo rowdy and invite all their loud and rude friends over at all times of the night. you will see crowds of people coming in and out of their apts all times of the day and night, and not to mention they play their music soo loud!. its just a shame. I really loved this place when i first moved here but it is going down hill fast! management really needs to pay attention to these issues or this place will soon be the slums!
I've lived in this complex for about 4 months and I must honestly say that it hasn't been a great experience. Sub-par office communication and poor maintenance have been typical.
My boyfriend and have been living here for a few months now and I feel like this has qualified me to write an honest review. I think my review of this apartment after only a few weeks of living here would be vastly different than the review I would give now. Once you get past the shiny new-ness and the awesome pool, you begin to notice some major flaws. My review is broken down into categories based on the rating categories provided by this site. Location/Neighborhood: Heights at Meridian is located within the Meridian corporate park. Overall, this makes the apartment feel safer and, as far as I know, there haven’t been any incidences (although management has a complete lack of communication with residents, so even if something did happen, we probably wouldn’t know). There is an on-site courtesy officer (sheriff who lives in the apartment) who we are supposed to be able to contact after hours if there is a problem. Great right? Does anyone know how to actually contact him? Has anyone ever seen him? It’s a great selling point for the apartment, but I don’t think he’s actually accessible. Let’s talk about construction. The apartment complex looks pretty complete right? Well, they just started some major construction on an overflow pond right next to the pool. It’s a little hard to hide from future residents, so I am sure they will construct some story about what’s going on/when it is going to be complete. Oh, and when you find out, would you let me know? Because we are completely kept in the dark by the management. We were told that all construction was complete at this end of the apartment (and therefore felt comfortable signing a lease) and low and behold I am woken up at 7 am, two months after we move in, by an excavator digging up cement 100 yards from my window at the “completed” end of the apartment. “Ok” you say, “it probably won’t last more than a month, right?”. This isn’t the only construction in the area. Behind the beautiful tree line at the back of the apartment, a new apartment/condominium community is being built. Not a big deal to us, but be warned that there are a lot of large dump trucks/construction equipment being moved in and out on the only road that you can take in and out of the area. 2B style apartment: The layout it great. I commend the architect of the individual apartments and the complex overall. However, the contractor left little to be desired. There are paint splatters all over the carpet and the tile floor. Edges of the carpet aren’t finished correctly (gaps between carpet and tile floor) and some random nails poking out. Something new I’ve learned: you know that shiny/waxy paint that is normally used in bathrooms (as compared to a matte finish)? That is actually really important. Whenever you wash your hands and turn around to dry them, water splash on the wall. Not a big deal, right? Well, with the matte paint, the water leaves dark, wet marks on the wall. These eventually dry, but over time (about 2 months) the walls begins to look really dirty. I’m sure a contractor knew this, but decided to cut corners. Lets talk more about corners. The edges around the bathtub and floor siding are poorly finished. The window in our bedroom wasn’t installed correctly so it doesn’t close all the way and when the wind blows in the right direction it makes this horrible whistling sound. Now you’re probably thinking that I’m just a major complainer and an unhappy resident writing a sour review. In all honesty, I’m not. I just want future resident’s to be aware of these things because it is so easy to be awe-struck by a new apartment. In summary, apartment living is only temporary and these little things aren't a big deal (the ceiling isn't leaking or anything) but if this was the way my house was built, I would be pretty dissatisfied. Overall value: Reasonable price for a 2 bed, 2 bath. Granted, by next year I’m sure we will be facing a major rent hike. The current price and deals being offered are there because they are hurting to fill their property. Quality of Amenities: Pool looks pretty awesome right? It is. Hands down the best apartment pool I've ever been to. It is supposed to be a saltwater pool (awesome right? I hate chlorine), but it didn’t taste very salty (don’t tell me you weren’t curious, my boyfriend saved you the trouble of tasting it yourself). BBQs are great although only one works and the other one has been “out of order” since we moved in. Gym is nice, clubhouse is well decorated. Breakfast that is available M-F in the clubhouse is nothing to get your hopes up over. It sounds awesome (believe me, I love free food), but we’re talking vending machine pastries (cheese danishes etc.). It’s a nice idea though. Have a pet? There are lots of great walking paths/grassy areas but one major, major issue. No garbages. None of those handy bag-dispensing posts. That’s fine. I can buy my own bags. But where do I put them when they are used? Here are my options: the dumpster (far away), the trashcan in my apartment (not ideal obviously), the trash in the clubhouse kitchen (also not ideal), the pool trash. Should it really be this difficult to throw away your dog’s stuff (lol this review site prevent me from using "inappropriate language")? Bag dispensers and trash receptacles have apparently been ordered, but nothing has changed since we moved in. Although the “Please pick up after you pet” signs were installed a couple weeks ago (ironic right?). Office staff/managing company: Leasing agents are very nice and helpful. However, I’m pretty sure they know as little as we do about construction etc. There are no apartment wide notifications and no one really knows what’s going on. That is a management/corporate problem. We were duped in to signing a construction contract under the impression that the construction at our end of the apartment was complete. Clearly it isn’t, and there is no limit as to what construction they can do and the length of time it could take (no construction contract end date) so be weary. Maintenance Service: I’m pretty sure there is only one maintenance guy for the entire complex. He is perfectly nice but we have some maintenance issues that haven't been addressed. He’s come by to look at these things, but they still haven’t been fixed. Noise: Construction is noisy. Just when you think it’s finished, it goes on for another hour. However, overall the apartment is pretty quite. We are near the pool and it’s still pretty peaceful even when there are tons of people out. Sometimes the pool radio is left on and I’m woken up at 3 am on a Wednesday by a horribly overplayed Katy Perry song (I’m not a light sleeper either). But that doesn’t always happen.
I was so excited about moving here. The location is great. Their is water features and ponds full of fish and turtles. Lots of walking trails and its close to I-40, so that is a huge plus. The area is quiet and feels safe. Lots of trees and wildlife. My biggest disappointment is the interior of the apartment. The comment before about the careless painter is right on the money. And the dust seems to come from an endless supply. I would have to agree about the noise as well. I don't know what I sound like, but their is definitely an elephant living above me. If your up pacing at night, your neighbor below knows it. Another note, as I just found out today, they use a third party company when you pay your rent online with a debit/credit card. They slap on a $35.00 convenience fee. I prefer to pay online, which nowadays, who doesn't. Needless to say that's a negative. Their is the option to pay through your bank also, which I'm going to look into, or you can go old school and write a check. The office staff is ok, but could be better. My apartment wasn't clean when I got the keys. And then I was told they didn't do a walk-through when I went back to complain. They offered to have it cleaned on Monday. As it was Saturday, and I was moving from out of state, that wasn't helpful. My first impression was disappointing. Hopefully things will normalize once construction is finished. Overall, location is great and if you can overlook the flaws, then it's not a bad place to be.
Property Manager at Heights at Meridian, Responded To This Review
Our apartment wasn't clean either when we got the keys!
This is a great location. You're in a corporate business park, so things are super quiet pretty much all the time. The management & office staff are great, and all the facilities were built in late 2013/early 2014. The maintenance staff is simply sublime. This is a typical Worthing property, so here's what you can expect: great service, a phenomenal kitchen, thin walls, thick carpet, and a somewhat careless painter. However, most people who live here do so because it's so quiet. So, the thin walls in this location aren't much of an issue. Just be aware that your upstairs neighbor is actually not Godzilla--there's just not much soundproofing between you two.
