Northshore is an unlikely blend of art and sports. It is busy, yet beautiful, packed with skyscrapers and riverfront parks. Located directly across the Allegheny River from Downtown Pittsburgh, Northshore provides a fantastic view of the skyline and three bridges for easy downtown access. This is the home of Heinz Field, and the area becomes a sea of black and gold when the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers are playing. If you are moving to an apartment in Northshore, don't forget to pack your Terrible Towel. During baseball season, PNC Park -- home of the MLB Pittsburgh Pirates -- is the place to be. If you prefer art and culture, this neighborhood also contains the Andy Warhol Museum and the Carnegie Science Center.
Northshore is very pedestrian-friendly, and getting to downtown is as easy as a trip across a bridge or a ride on the T (it's free).

Property Ratings at Heinz Lofts
I love the historical value of this property. My particular unit affords me a view of the river and of beautiful sunrises. Easy access to 279, etc., is key and I love that I can walk to the strip district.
Tired of looking at cookie cutter layouts? Come see our distinctive apartments. Comfortable, quiet apartments, friendly & accommodating staff, excellent maintenance. And covered parking!

Hi there! Thanks so much for letting us know about your experience with Heinz Lofts.
We are so happy with our decision to move to Heinz Lofts! Walking distance to the Strip District, without the Strip pricing was a major factor for us, and having unique layouts and great amenities, it ended up being a no brainer!

Although I have had issues like any other person living in the city, I love the Heinz Lofts and I am happy to be a tenant here. The staff does whatever they can (that’s in their control) to help you and solved issues you may have.

You're the best! We really appreciate the positive review.
Heinz is a great place to live. Everyone is friendly and the staff is extremely helpful. If issues arise, they get resolved quickly and efficiently. They host community events that bring a lot of people together. It also feels extremely safe and secure even with so many buildings. It's close to downtown, the stadiums, a few highways and many other neighborhoods which is bonus as well.

The elevators are constantly out of service. The garage door is in poor condition and gets stuck open for months at a time. Sometimes it won't open when you're trying to leave. Side doors to the garage and buildings are often broken. Due to the surrounding neighborhood situation, this has allowed a number of thefts including a neighbor having their car stolen out of the garage and another having her bikes stolen off the back of her car. At one point someone was living out of a dilapidated car on the basement level. Although the web site touts "secure entry" to the building and garage, the lease explains that they take no responsibility for providing locked doors or a secure garage. Though the exterior is solid concrete and brick, apartment-separating interior walls are just studs with drywall on each side -no insulation or sound-dampening whatsoever. So you can hear everything your neighbors do and say, and more if they're drinking and carrying on. Many apartments (especially 3-bedrooms) are leased by roommates, presumably making each of their rents inexpensive - but then they treat it as such. Partying, loud music, karaoke night (as I experienced a few nights ago, repeated loud belching (as I frequently hear), and more. When packages are delivered, frustrated residents gather in the "package room" to try to find their packages in a giant pile. Sometimes staff organizes them onto labeled shelves, sometimes not. The package room is sometimes left open all night, and anyone can enter the building through the broken side doors, walk into the package room, and take whatever they want. The hallways are very dirty - the carpet appears to be decades old. There is crumbling ceiling all over the property. There is a layer of sediment throughout - on the windowsills in the hallways, on the floors of the garage, in the common areas... evidence of no thorough cleaning for many years. For a property that markets itself as an upscale loft apartment, and for these price points, these issues shouldn't be happening at all, much less remaining persistent. Management should clean most things up, make substantive repairs to access points and elevators, get the package room under control, and fix or install security cameras so the dog owners relieving their pets in the hallways can be dealt with.
The dogs in the building are taken to relieve themselves in the same areas that people are eating, such as the cafe and the grilling area (along with the rest of the building). The stench is overwhelming & it looks disgusting. It’s important to watch where you step, since it’s also on the sidewalk and the hallway carpeting (which is already filthy, worn out & outdated). This is an environmental pollutant and a biohazard which is seriously harmful to the health of humans. The management has refused to gut out these toxic areas and allows for it to get worse, since the dogs will never stop marking their territory. Guests have been required to share an unclean phone for entrance. The callbox has been broken for months now and will hopefully be replaced with a way of entering that is not unsanitary & unsafe for the users. The callbox should have been removed a long time ago, since it hadn’t been working properly & it was obviously going to break. The elevators are always broken & like the callbox they are 20 years old & getting to be beyond repairing & need to be replaced. The parking garages are not secure (there have been issues with theft)and the ceilings are crumbling onto the resident’s cars but this has been ignored by the management. The package room is is never secure and it’s just left open. Anyone could have their packages stolen. The parking is inadequate. The lot was reduced to have accommodations for dogs. What was once a landscaped area has also been destroyed by the dogs relieving themselves & should just be paved over to extend the parking lot. This would eliminate 2 different issues. The building is beautiful & in a great location. It hasn’t always been in such poor condition. When it was properly managed it was a great place to live
Office staff is horrible. Shared water bill is outrageous Employee that lives in building is rude Fitness center is a joke They added grills outside but they are always out of propane They say they do background checks, but my friends in he other building had a felon beside them. Who had the FBI raid his loft and had a kilo of heroin in there.. Parking is a joke The visitor lot always has tenants in it. The parking garage is unsafe, my car was damaged twice. I have more to say, but I’ll leave it at this

We are disappointed to hear of your negative experience and will investigate your concerns. We would like to work towards a resolution, so if you are willing, please reach out to us at (844) 807-5771 to discuss this further.
Everything is from the early 2000’s. The elevators are always breaking, the gym is outdated, there are always issues with the package room. It’s often just left open with no security. The outdated hallway carpeting is over 17 years old and worn out with stains, the landscaping is dead, due to being walked on and destroyed by the dogs using the area to relieve themselves. The entrance for visitors is outdated and it’s required for the guests to share a phone to be let into the building but there is nothing to clean the phone or hands with between users. A lot of times the phones don’t even work and there are issues with the visitor’s trying to be admitted into the building. The dogs seem to be outnumbering the humans and it’s an uncomfortable experience just to be outside as well as the inside of the building. In addition to the destruction, multiple odors and the loud barking, the dogs can also be aggressive and intimidating while their owners have no control over them and don’t care about the negative effect they are having. These are expensive apartments in a great location and have been nice in the past but now everything is rundown and falling apart. The atmosphere has become so unpleasant which would be inexcusable, even if it wasn’t an expensive place to live.
Property Manager at Heinz Lofts, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your feedback. We take pride in our community and are updating/renovating apartments as well as have contractors who address the hallway cleans, landscaping and outdoor areas. We will take the necessary steps to review these areas and make adjustments where necessary. We also have strict pet guidelines and policies that are enforced on property. We ask that you reach out to our property manager at your earliest convenience so you can discuss your concerns and feedback. Please call 412-321-5707 to speak with them.
The manager allows for the residents to walk all over the landscaping with their dogs and the dogs are urinating and defecating all through the landscaping and all over the building. The landscaping has been ruined. They haven’t been using the designated area with bags and waste cans to dispose of the waste. She knows this and she knows that they are not cleaning up after their dogs(the property is full of dog waste and urine) but she hasn’t done anything to stop it from happening. The building smells awful, no matter where you are. It’s not sanitary and it’s extremely unpleasant.
Property Manager at Heinz Lofts, Responded To This Review
We thank you for your review. I'm happy to share all of the landscaping has been updated and refreshed since this review. We also have a team that cleans all high touch surfaces multiple times a day and regularly scheduled carpet cleans.

It’s out of control with the dogs! The management claims to have extensive pet rules but they’re not being followed. Even though there’s an area for dog waste with bags to dispose of it, the manager allows for the residents to let their dogs urinate and defecate all through the landscaping and the outside of the building. She knows that they don’t clean up after their dogs and that they have destroyed the landscaping. The stench is unbearable, even with a mask. The building has become dominated by dogs. I couldn’t enter or exit the building or walk through the parking lot without being blocked by multiple large dogs, some were aggressive. I was growled at a couple of times by large, intimidating dogs, once when I tried to exit the building. The owners have no control over their dogs. They’re always looking at their cellphones without a tight grip on the leash and they let their dogs walk and sit wherever they want to. There was nowhere to sit, due to the seating(intended for humans) being taken up by the dogs and their owners. Sometimes there’s a concern that the dogs could end up fighting. There’s loud barking inside and outside of the building. Sometimes the inside of the building smells like dirty dogs and they have also defecated in the hallway. The building isn’t covid ready. It’s required to use a phone to be let into the building but I’ve never seen disinfectant wipes or hand sanitizer. After you enter the building, there’s a hand sanitizer dispenser that is always empty.

What a great place to live. They have great customer service from the building manager to office staff to maintenance. They are always willing to help. Any issues I have had have been taken care of in a timely manor. The apartments are up to date. This building is dog friendly too. Can you believe they have a dog wash station and a dog yard. Everyone I have met here has been nothing but kind. Living here you are close to everything, sports, shopping, airport and city. They have all sorts of events for residents. In the past hey have had football parties, beer night, wine night, Halloween party with a costume contest for kids and pets and Christmas parties. You will not be disappointed in living here. Once you make Heinz Loft your home you will never want to leave.

Spare yourself the headache and rent elsewhere. The process of renting an apartment is great- but once you're a tenant, it all goes downhill quickly. The indoor garage is cramped with metal beams between every spot, creating a hazard for your car. You can pay rent anywhere from the 1st to the 5th of the month: do not pay on the first, especially if you do autopay. The utility charges will not be added yet and you will be hit by a "late charge." That is a fun surprise that you won't pick up on unless you review your itemized bill from Heinz. The office staff is not helpful in resolving this. The move out process is a separate nightmare, with different staff members telling you different protocols. Even when it's clear you were given wrong information before, they will then penalize you for not doing things correctly. I would not rent from them again. There are better value apartments with more helpful staff.

I really love my apartment in the Heinz Lofts. The living room and kitchen are very spacious and open. The bedrooms are a little on the smaller side though, and I wish that I had more storage space. Another item that is a little questionable about the apartment is the color. The bathrooms and kitchen have black tile, which require frequent cleaning. The bathroom and kitchen counter tops are also a different shade of red that also require frequent cleaning. The complex also has a lot of great amenities such as a gym, sauna, indoor parking, and nice common areas. The gym needs a little work, such as cleaning of the machines and potentially more updated machines. The indoor parking is very nice in the winter and summer as it is temperature controlled. However, depending on the building that you live in, it can be quite a walk to get to your car. The one amenity the complex is lacking is a pool. The management has recently switched over, which I am trying to still assess. It doesn't seem as if they have as many community activities, but they seem to be a little more organized and reliable. Overall, I think the apartment is a great choice but definitely needs some improvement.
The apartments have great closet space, provide more on-site amenities and space at a better rate than most newer properties in Pittsburgh. However, the location is challenge. If you are looking to have everything you need close by or in walking distance, this is not the best place to move.
