Property Ratings at Herald Towers
Everything is shabby. The carpets are thread bare, the bathtub was cracked & damaged (i signed sight unseen), the kitchen old, the floors damaged. The management doesn't respond, doesn't keep accurate records of whether rent is paid, and then gets a law firm to send lots of nasty letters out to people who moved out a while ago and don't owe rent, or demanding rent be paid twice! So I would say they should pay me $40K to live here and not the other way around. You can't get a meeting with management and it's difficult to get an email response.
Great location if you like being in the thick of things. Huge building with a ton of units, nice gym and beautiful roof deck area. I never had issues with bugs, as long as you keep it clean and throw your garbage out daily! Elevators are super fast, and surprisingly very consistent (I don't remember them being down for maintenance very often). Great place to live if you want to be in midtown and/or meet a lot of young people!
I moved out just over 3 months ago and still have not received the security deposit back. They said they sent the check twice now via mail, but it has not arrived. The USPS isn't great, but I am highly skeptical of the idea that mail is getting lost just within NYC twice in a row. I have been trying to reach them every day for the past several weeks and they are not replying
The management staff is awful. They are very unhelpful with any issues. Cockroaches everywhere along with other flies. Neverending construction. Water is terrible. Takes 30 mins to get hot water and then the only choice is between scalding hot or ice cold, no in between. DO NOT RENT HERE.
This is a very centralized building to gain access to since it is near all major subways and trains. This is a good building for those that are looking for an somewhat upscale but economical place. There are 3 sizes of studios and 1 bedroom apartments. There is also on-site laundry, mail drop and basic fitness area. I would recommend this for someone looking for a good mid level place that is easy to get around.
