West Ashley sits within the city of Charleston and is west of the Ashley River, hence its name, and is the birthplace of Hootie & the Blowfish’s frontman, Darius Rucker. Lined with mossy oaks, the Ashley and Stono Rivers border West Ashley, creating the breathtaking scenery for which Charleston is known. West Ashley residents enjoy close proximity to the area's only indoor mall, the Citadel Mall, and a large number of big-box stores.
Situated seven miles due west of Downtown Charleston, residents can plan on a 15- to 30-minute drive, depending on traffic, to take in all downtown has to offer. Nearby Interstate 526, which feeds directly into Charleston’s Interstate Highway 26, gives residents a fast and easy route in and out of area. Mid- to late-1900s ranch-style homes characterize the housing in outer West Ashley, but neighborhoods built in the 2000s also sprinkle the area.

For a period of time i would come home at around 1030p.m. and there would be no spots available. I couldve either parked in front of a another building and walked the path along the woods that late at night or park on the grass median in front of the garages. I chose the 2nd option and was told i wouldnt get ticketed. The next day i get a warning on my window for not parking in a spot. The woman i talked to in the office about it said this complex was built in the 90s and I fail to see what that had to do with parking in 2024

We have lived at Heron Reserve for a month now and so happy with the choice! The staff are so nice and the neighbors have all been super friendly. We love our location right next to the trees so it appears we are out in the country. We feel pretty safe here, although my kids did run in to a homeless man in the recycling area (further back in the property) digging in the dumpsters barefoot during the day. I won't be able to send them off across the street to take that out any longer. I enjoy the convenience of the app that allows me to easily make rent payments or if need be, make a maintenance request (although I haven't had any issues yet.) The pool and grill stations are a great thing to have on property as well. It's a great place to meet people and my kids have been able to make some great friends. We will continue renting here :-)
My husband and I moved to our 1st floor Ashmore in September 2016. We were concerned in the beginning because we were moving from a 2400 sq ft house in NC to the Ashmore which is just under 1100 sq ft. We had to get used to the size, but it really didn't take long and we feel very comfortable. The apartment is convenient to the dog park, the pool and even the trash and recycle areas. The entire complex is enveloped in a heavily wooded area and our apartment backs up to the woods giving us a feeling of seclusion. Everyone is super friendly and very helpful, from the office staff to the maintenance staff. Our only complaint is we aren't used to having people sharing walls and the neighbors directly above us are heavy walkers and jumpers, but even with that, we're happy here. This was supposed to be a stop-off until we decided which area we wanted to live in, but we think we'll stay here. We love it

We really appreciate this wonderful review of Heron Reserve! We're thrilled that you and your husband are having a good experience living here. Regarding the noise transfer issue, please get in touch with us if it's a consistent problem so we can address it. And, as always, please reach out if you need anything!
I have lived at the Heron Reserve for 3 years and it has been pleasant. Maintenance requests were handled in a timely manner and the office staff were always friendly. The neighborhood was also quiet and it's also a very pet friendly place. Occasionally, I can hear neighbors above me, but it was never anything obnoxious. No apartment complex is perfect but I really enjoyed it there. Their prices are pretty reasonable and they had a great location.

Thank you for being a three-year resident of Heron Reserve! It's great to hear that you're having a good stay in our community. We hope you will be happy in your apartment for many more years to come.
It has been a great experience living in Heron Reserve. The staff are very friendly and caring and clearly do what they can to help residents. The community is quiet and clean. One of the things we love the most about Heron Reserve is how pet-friendly it is. The dog park is fantastic - even better than some public dog parks. Plus, the community has a lot of open space throughout that makes it great for walking pets.

We appreciate the review! Thanks for making your home at Heron Reserve. We'll keep working to make it an even better place to live.
Heron Reserve is more than everything we were looking for in a rental property. The argument for owning a home vs renting is completely answered by living in Heron Reserve. Our weekends have been wiped clean from chores around the house. We no longer have to paint, repair, mow the grass or weed the lawn. We feel safe when we come home and walk the grounds.

Thanks for the feedback! We work hard to make Heron Reserve a great place to live. We hope you'll be happy with us for a long time.
I have loved my time at Heron Reserve so far I've lived here nearly 5 months, and have had great experiences. The office staff are very friendly and accommodating, and the one maintenance issue I've had was taken care of within 12hrs of my call, even though it was non-emergent. I love the amenities the gym is awesome, I canceled my prior gym membership because this gym has all I need. They even have yoga classes sometimes. The pool area is great as well. My building is close to the fenced-in dog park area and me and my pup love it The grounds are generally kept up very well and I love that it is surrounded by forest...it makes for a very peaceful and soothing atmosphere. What a great place to live

Heron Reserve is an amazing place to live in West Ashley I had a unique situation in moving - and they worked with me to make my move as easy as possible. The staff is amazing - from the front office to the maintenance staff. The amenities, especially the workout center and the pool area, are all new and accessible whenever you need them, and are part of why I chose Heron Reserve. I love sitting on my balcony or on the gazebo up at the clubhouse

We appreciate the feedback and are glad that you love it here at Heron Reserve. We look forward to you continuing to enjoy your home. Thank you for your residency!
We have been living here for over 3 years. We have had our AC break over a dozen times in that span. We have now had the AC break twice in 3 days. Even when the AC is working (somewhat) it's so old it can't keep up and it runs constantly so our electricity bill in the summer for an 1100 sq ft apartment is $300 per month. We let the office know about this and their response was "that sucks for y'all." We are fortunately moving out in 2 weeks and couldn't be happier. I would not recommend these apartments to anyone. The managers clearly care more about their bottom line than their residents.
The application agreement my spouse and I were sent had rental criteria listed. On the page, it had a section saying that you could have a guarantor/cosigner. Fast forward $225 and we are told that cosigners aren't allowed. We are two fresh college grads, of course we need a cosigner!! We wouldn't have bothered applying if we knew we couldn't have one! Julie, the property manager, claimed me for not being able to read. She says to me: "the application says Drucker & Falk, not Her on Reserve. We don't accept cosigners." She says I should have asked and that the application wasn't misleading. Hello? How is that misleading? I asked for an apartment application for Heron Reserve and this is what I was sent! Bottom line, if you need a cosigner for any reason, don't bother. We got the admin fee back but are out $100 because of misleading information.
The apartments are dated, poor insulation which leads to hearing your neighbors breathe. The Maintenance staff are unfriendly and in approachable. The gym wasn't available for more than 6 months yet I was being charged as if I had that amenity. Bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor upkeep of wooded areas, there are snakes and other creatures which find their way to your doorstep and sometimes in your apartment. Worst experience of my 15 years of apartment living!
This apartment complex is just beautiful, and all of the staff is extremely helpful! Maintenance does a great job of keeping things clean and are always timely on repairs. Love it!
Moved back to Charleston after several years in Maryland. This is such a beautiful community. Spacious & comfortable with an excellent layout & up to 3 bedrooms. Pools, gym, even a dog park. Conveniently located but you don't get that "lost in the city" feeling. Many units have water or wooded views. We made the right choice.
