Property Ratings at Hickory Creek
Moved in and immediately were met with the never ending problem of cockroaches. Every two weeks we are forced to completely move out of our kitchen and bathroom only for the problem to never go away!! Don’t live here!!

STAY AWAY. I’ve been dealing with roaches for months and the problem is still not taken of. On top of that, I’m trying to move to a new apartment, one without roaches, and the leasing office won’t send over rental verification until I give notice. Why would I give notice before I am approved for the apartment. If I don’t get approved then Im screwed and I am out of a place to stay. They are so backwards. And they don’t care about you as a resident. The pick and choose which emails to respond to and sometimes the just downright ignore you. I feel like they have done me wrong and all I want to do is get away from this place. I am a great resident, I've never missed rent and always paid on time. I've been very respectful when communicating to management. I am a quiet residents who is also clean and have kept my apartment to great condition. I deserve better treatment.

User, Thanks for rating your experience. I want to extend my sincerest apologies concerning your tenancy. We hope you can give us the chance to turn your experience around. Respectfully, Hickory Creek
I lived here for 2 years while I finished nursing school. It is a quiet neighborhood so I had no problem studying and everyone is polite. I appreciated the neighborhood more after quarantine since it has lots of walking space and it is even walking distance to Sharon Woods park. The only issue is do not throw your trash at night since there is raccoon families in the dumpster at night looking for food. But other than that it has been great.

The construction is ok, but with paint stains everywhere and wooden fixtures coming off the wall it's very bad. They also attempted to fix my cracked tub by covering it with trash bags. This caused a major mold problem and provided an ideal breeding ground for flies. They didn't fix the tub till I reviewed it online a month later. Very, very filthy when I moved in, and I'm sure they'll charge me for cleaning they don't actually do, but we'll see. Otherwise, the bad/smeared paint jobs, the refusal to salt the property during winter, and the busted gym equipment show they don't take any pride in the property. Also paid twice by accident after their payment portal glitched. I went to the office because that additional rent was unearned and I felt more comfortable having that money for student loans etc. They pulled up records of me paying twice within seconds and suggested I had somehow spoofed the chase bank app. Very disrespectful and unprofessional given that, like I said, that additional rent was unearned. Money grubbing behavior at a hastily constructed property. Very reminiscent of college where I knew going in the leasing office would rip me off. The manager did leave, good riddance, so consider that please. They offered a renewal at a higher rate even though the apartment has a big hole in the ceiling that wasn't here when I moved in. Contractors also stole from me :( but that's not the property managers fault aside from that they hire losers to do real work. Seriously wouldn't recommend as I think an honest search will turn up an apartment with more professional managment.

Safety: Our door was busted in during the day because they refuse to put deadbolts on doors until after you get robbed. A lot of people get robbed in this complex. Your packages will be stolen regularly. Absurdness: We had squirrels living in our ceiling and they had access to our apartment because the piping holes were not sealed off. I thought someone was in our apartment in the morning and I went out of the BR to find a LIVE SQUIRREL in my apartment. The office did not believe us multiple times after sharing and after a few weeks they caught a live squirrel IN OUR APARTMENT Doing the Right Thing: We packed up everything we had for move in day and showed up and the walls were not painted, nothing was cleaned and the carpets were dingy. We had everything so we had no choice to move in. On the week of my wedding I had to move all of our items from room to room so they could paint and shampoo carpets. They did a bad job with the carpets and didn’t do deep stain cleaning. Upon move out we were charged $175 for stains to the carpet even though our check in forms display they were in bad condition. They claim we caused them from pets. We do not have a pet. We even asked for a walkthrough of the unit and wait for it … They cancelled because they had already taken out the carpet because they were replacing with hardwood floors anyways. We are being asked to pay for carpets we didn’t stain, we marked on our check in form, AND they were replacing anyways. I recommend avoiding business with people who don’t do the right thing. Lastly, I’ve seen some hate for the maintenance crew but they are hard workers and do a good job.
I lived here 3 months and was robbed twice through the easily forced patio doors. When I asked for replaced locks after the first robbery, nothing was done until the second robbery. When I voiced my desire to leave for my own security, they refused to acknowledge their liability and instead tried to force extra money out of me to leave this location.
I've been here since December after selling my house. It is nice and quiet and the landscaping is beautiful. The pool is lovely and my favorite place. The office staff is excellent, Caleb has a great personality and people skills. The apartments are older but upgraded and well maintained. The good thing about older buildings is that they have good walls and are brick. So heating and cooling prices are really low, and you don't hear much at all from your neighbors. I've only had two issues where I needed maintenance. One was when the chain on my door broke; they were here right away, that same day. The other was when my dryer stopped drying things, it still worked but took forever. That one I had to wait two weeks but it's the height of summer so obviously they are going to fix air conditioning units and take care of more urgent things first, (like if your door chain breaks!) I didn't mind waiting. The maintenance guys are all super nice and he even turned the door around on my dryer so I could get to it more easily. There are a lot of units here so sometimes you just have to remember that things have to be prioritized. And if they dryer went out in my house it would have been a week or two before I could replace it, also. I love having a real fireplace, and there's so much storage in the units and an extra big locking storage unit on each patio. Made it so easy to downsize! I feel safe walking my dog around, the complex is big enough and pretty and we walk a few times a day. The maintenance guys always wave and say hi. It's a nice neighborhood vibe.
This apartment complex is trash. I am a super clean person; you could probably eat off of my bathroom floor. A few months ago I started noticing ROACHES in my home after being there for two years prior with no such incident. I reached out to the leasing office and they responded by telling me that they were surprised because my apartment was clean and wasn’t in the “back”. Whatever that means. They then told me they would send someone out to come look and if it was determined my apartment was the origin of the infestation they would charge me for having professionals come out. Needless to say I was never billed because I was not the source. Since then I have been living uncomfortably in my home, unable to leave a single speck of food out, or lounge around carefully for fear a roach would crawl up my leg. I have had large spiders in the house, I’m assuming in search of a promised meal. I asked to be released from my lease 17 days prior to my lease being up which I was patient enough to wait out for months but I was told there wasn’t even a record of me reporting the roaches. How?! How is that even possible? I will be consulting with legal counsel if I am forced to stay here until then but in the meantime I would strongly discourage anyone from renting here. The apartments are outdated and overly priced. Unless you plan to collect half of your rent money from the roaches you’ll be living with it’s not worth the trouble.
I luckily only took over a lease here, but these are very old units, with paper thin walls. The layout is nice and if completely remodeled (not just cosmetically) would be much better. You can never reach the leasing office on the phone. Maintenance is pretty good though, unorganized. Some questionable residents, after receiving my first package here the shipping tape was cut open completely though not taken (a cheap order probably not worth taking in their minds) after that I searched online and there have been multiple break-ins of vehicles and a few apartments as well.
Property is very clean, well maintained, office staff is very friendly. However you have to use the washer and dryer they provide. The older style apartments are not the best quality for the money. Maintenance Takes their time to fixing not urgent problems (my garbage disposal was broke for a week.) The indoor pool has been closed for 3 months now. The trash is constantly overflowing. I have never had any crime happen to my car or apartment.
If you live on the ground floor make sure you get a security system, as I know 4 neighbors who have been broken into. It’s also common in the winter for the top floors’ pipes to freeze and flood the tenants living underneath, so I would say if you live here, opt for a second floor apt for sure. I have found one mouse - my cat killed it. There are stink bugs infesting the skylights/upstairs bedrooms, and the noise from the highway can be bad depending on which building you’re in, but other than that, it’s a good place to live. My car has never been bothered, and I don’t feel unsafe in the parking lots which are well-lit. Office staff is nice. The new appliances were a selling point for this place, as well as new carpets. I love the vaulted ceiling and the skylight in the bathroom where I can grow plants. The view from the balcony sucks, but it’s nice to have it there to take in some fresh air. I love the heated indoor pool (when it’s not broken), but wish it was bigger. The outdoor pool is pretty crowded most of the day with people who may or may not actually live here. The gym is useless but I go elsewhere for that. I’d give it 4 stars if they charged $100 less per month OR stopped charging almost $100 in fees on top of what they advertise as rent. As is, it’s good enough and I don’t feel like going through the hassle of finding another place. Nicer places are too pricey... cheaper places lack the storage, skylights and vaulted ceilings that I have come to love about this one bedroom townhome. All in all, it’s satisfactory.... just a bit pricey.

The apartments are certainly pretty, but not worth the actual price of living here. Processing fees often amount to over $100 on top of the rent and utilities that you're already paying for. There's even a special fee for paying through their website. Save your money and rent from somewhere more honest.

This apartment complex is pretty good. Lots of options for building sizes and bedrooms. Front office staff is very friendly. Willing to help. Hours aren't great though. I'm often at work when they are open. Landscaping isn't great but pretty. Many people take care of their own place. Price is appropriate. They are going through renovations right now and that's spiking the prices. Maintenance is pretty good about working in your unit. Pool was nice. Gym is pretty small. Indoor pool is OK but also very small. Overall I'm happy to be here and just minding my own business.
True to form Hickory Creek is truly the place to live in Columbus! They give you a " second chance" to make a first impression! I knew nothing of Columbus other than my beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. Now I understand what it means to live in the State Capital !
Overall I've had a great experience here so far. The rent is a little pricey for what you get IMO, but my truck or apartment have never been broken into. Never had any problems with noise or weird smells from neighbors. Appliances work well and I've only had to call maintenance once and they were there to look at the issue the same day. Not too much to complain about. My biggest complaint would be the lack of sidewalks outside the buildings. There is one path that leads from the door to a parking spot, which is usually occupied, so it makes it extremely difficult to get to your car without getting your shoes wet or muddy on a rainy day.
I was a little skeptical after reading the reviews online but the apartment is great! The pool is clean and all the units come with beautiful new appliances.
Hickory creek is a great apartment complex. It has all my favorite things. It has a pool & a fitness center. They let my have my two kitties with me. They are really fast with repairs & everyone in the rental office is very nice. The apartments are clean & my neighbors are so friendly & never have any complaints. It's nice & quiet & peaceful. Everyone is very satisfied with the Environment.
