Property Ratings at Hickory Plantation
If you're looking for a one stop shop to stay while looking for a home or traveling short term for the military, look no further. You're not going to find a month to month lease, or place that rents for less than 6 months. With the included utilities and amenities, it makes it worth it. There is someone in the office each week and the facilities manager on site. People are super friendly here, walking kids, puppies and taking care of their space. We made use of the pool multiple times without issue and despite the heavy rain, had no issues with flooding.
It looks cute but they do not deliver what they agree to
This place is in such a great location, but is operated by very frugal owners. The day to day staff there is tremendous and friendly. The woman that works the leasing office is very friendly and helpful. So is the maintenance guy. However, he’s the only maintenance guy for the entire complex. He is stretched way too thin and they won’t hire anyone else who stays more than a week. So, don’t expect non emergent work to happen fast because this guy is doing it pretty much alone. If the leasing office lady cannot be there during the posted business hours, no one will be there. I was supposed to check out on a given day. This was arranged weeks ahead of time. They open at 830 and I arrived at 856. I waited until 1215 and no one arrived. I asked the maintenance man who said someone would be in around 12, no one showed up. When I moved in I was given an inspection sheet, I filled it front and back and returned it to the office. It somehow was lost. On that sheet, we’re many of the items you see pictured dishwasher was melted and leaked, NO smoke detector, my back door didn’t have a locking mechanism inside, so I couldn’t secure my house. Wood floor trim was not installed right. Exposed wires on outlets and fixtures. Everything was painted over carelessly. No screens on my windows, except the kitchen. I only ever got one screen for one bedroom. Lastly, my AC didnt work and required recharging the day I moved in. Easter Sunday my stove quit and it took five weeks for a replacement. Five weeks, no stove or oven. The list goes on, but you get the idea. Perhaps someday they’ll care about their product, but until they do I would recommend skipping it. There is a dog park a block away and a brewery across the street, so it’s really a nice area and would be amazing with some TLC.
Super safe neighborhood for the kids. Close to a park and aquatic center. Walking distance from library.
I moved to St. Marys to work for the GDOL and almost couldn't find a place to live. I not only found a great apartment at Hickory Plantation, it was a mere few blocks from the office. The apartment was roomy and well laid out, at least for my needs. I must say that during the first part of my stay, maintenance was a bit of an issue; however with a new maintenance person and front office manager things improved quickly. There are many military families in this complex, and with the exception of my upstairs neighbors who were bachelors and loved to party until early morning, I made quick friends with the folks there. Management did contact the party boys once other folks complained as well. The local residents are very friendly, and I LOVED being in walking distance of the local library and park. Walking was a great way to enjoy the area and there are lovely places on and around the march to photograph. Overall, it was the best living experience I have had. It was hard to leave!
