Property Ratings at Hideaway at Greenbrier
I have been a renter and have NEVER had an experience as bad as this one. And we didn't even move into the place! We submitted an application, and were extremely excited at the prospect of moving in. We heard nothing about our acceptance or anything for weeks. Finally after dozens and dozens of phone calls we got ahold of Natalie who told us "you have been approved, and we have been trying to get ahold of you." Yet neither me nor my co applicant heard a single thing from anyone. DONT DO IT there are several other wonderful places in the area that will not lie to you like they did.
My hopes of moving into a beautiful apartment was shattered after paying the $400 holding fee and never getting a lease. After calling over forty times and no one ever answering the phone we tried to get our money back. We went in person and was told that we would be able to get our deposit back since hideaway admitted to it being their fault. And when we followed up a few days later to proceed with getting our money back Natalie by some miracle found her phone and answered it. (I can't imagine what it must've been like for her to have lost her phone for two months straight). And Natalie then told us that it was our fault because we canceled the lease and we would not be refunded our money. WHAT LEASE? WE NEVER GOT A LEASE TO CANCEL! Just don't do it. It looks nice on the outside but the reviews say it all. There's plenty of nice places to live but this isn't one of them.
Property Manager at Hideaway at Greenbrier, Responded To This Review
Dear Isabella, thank you for sharing your feedback. We aim to be fair and transparent during the application process, we are sorry if there was any miscommunication. Please reach out to us directly to clarify any misunderstandings at 757-361-0072. Thank you.
This property only takes care of the leasing office. You'll pay for an exterminator, but I've never once in 2 yrs seen someone spray outside or inside my apartment. Mold grows like weeds because of poor ventilation. Doors and windows are not sealed and won't get sealed. Appliances are extremely outdated. If you live in a lower unit and a leak comes from upstairs, it will just be painted over, not fixed regardless of damage. Electrical issues where the entire breaker will trip in the middle of the night with nothing running and multiple times during the day creating issues with Appliances not operating effectively. Multiple letters and emails have been sent to property managers and have been completely ignored, but will fill your inbox about cleaning up after pets and how it makes the community look bad, meanwhile the parking lot and areas behind apartments are littered with trash that grounds will walk right past. As a resident, I've done more maintenance repair and grounds work in 2 years than the paid employees. Don't waste your money being fooled by the staged photos and the model apartments. This property does NOT look like this online facade they've created.
If you want to move here and you talk to the front desk, be careful what they say Get everything in email, dont bother Check the local news about this place as well maybe a week from now or so about their AC and how residents were in their freaking cars!!! with health issues!!!! There should be a negative star rating here.... if that was possible this complex would be that many PLUS! I had moved from my old complex due to the rent increasing and me not being able to afford with my military housing allowance ( I should have just worked another job to make the difference with how bad this place is) Trash everywhere, when I say everywhere I mean piled up for days even if it comes to the sidewalk. The only fix the complex offered was taking a piece of cardboard, and writing in a permanent marker something along the lines of "you live here". Bugs everywhere To include the complex apartments and lack of assistance with maintenance. Continue to get bug bites. Instead of addressing the issues that I put a work order in for AFTER I moved in; the staff state in resident portal "added to initial move in inspection " what they should have put was we're sorry we don't have adequate staff, etc we will get to it when we can or something.
You pay way to much for what they offer , no lights in the bedroom , cockroaches in the summer , parking is terrible due to non residents who decide to park. Maintenance team is average. It’s a money hungry management. My neighbors will smoke marijuana and the smell will lurk into my closet. Thin walls , the car wash that you pay for doesn’t even work. If you can find a property that’s cheaper then by all means I would pass on this facility.
If you love catching cockroaches every day, this is the place for you! I have put requests in to have apartment sprayed that have gone ignored, despite paying nearly $15 a month on pest control. Parking is terrible. There are no reserved spots available for purchase and most days I have to park 4-5 buildings away. The front office said there was plenty of open parking when I went to sign the lease, first of many lies! The advertised 24/7 security is non existent. I’ve never seen security since I’ve moved in several months ago. My floors constantly shake and vibrate. The office is unwilling to do anything about it and my maintenance request was closed. All they will tell you is buy earplugs or pay to break your lease. I’m sprinting out of here as soon as my lease is up! 10 out of 10 do not recommend to anyone, no matter the situation.
This apartment is worse than my cheap college apartment. Want to hear you upstairs neighbors walk all day? Want to fight to find parking within the same zip code? Want a maintenance crew that claims to do work but doesn't actually do anything? This is the place for you then
If there was an option for zero stars, that would be more fitting. Absolutely positively no one should ever considere living here. We lived there for two years too long. Our ceiling cracked and was leaking, and the apartment complex did nothing about it for 2 weeks. Then, when we were not home, they came in and got spackling and paint all over our stuff - about $300 in damage. They actually made me negotiate to get a check for our stuff and only provided us $250 for them ruining our household items. Then, the last week before we moved out, they had the audacity to remove our stuff from our outdoor storage and put it in their maintenance garage without notifying us. This happened while my wife and I were visiting family in Florida. They chalked it up to an administrative mistake and that our stuff shouldn’t have been in there (this coming from a new manager when we had been dealing with the same issue for 2 years previous to her, and the staff prior to her said our stuff was good to go to be in there). Then, they tried to overcharge us for our final statement by over $200, finally had it corrected, we paid it that very same day (I have a screenshot of our bank account where Hideaway took out the payment), and they still sent us to collections. Mind you, we never paid our rent and utilities late as they came out automatically due to RPP (military program where it is automatically paid out of our monthly salary). Luckily, the lady at the collections place said we have all the proof they need for us to dispute this. This place is so poorly run and the staff do nothing to help you, so I will help others who are looking for apartments by telling them not to ever consider living here.
From the staff to the neighbors, living here was a nightmare. The paper thin walls that wouldn’t contain people yelling and dogs barking at all hours would have been enough to drive anyone crazy. Though it doesn’t stop there. From the moment we moved in there were a few problems that had taken ages to resolve; it was definitely not ready to be rented out. After fixing broken showers, the dirty dishwasher, and HVAC, we had to deal with neighbors leaving garbage out and attracting all the disgusting insects and animals that it attracted. Sure an apartment isn’t a house, but for my family who has served the military for nearly a decade, it was supposed to be a home. There was nothing homely about this place. Unless you suck up and become best friends with the people working in the office so you can get away with anything. Otherwise you’re treated like you don’t matter. Oh, it’s over 90 and your AC hasn’t been working for two days? Too bad. You’re having panic attacks from the loss of sleep because your neighbor is “training” their puppy in a crate right under your bed? Well they’re friends with the office workers so you’ll have to deal with it until you move out. We moved out a few months ago and I literally cried the first night in my new place because I was so happy to leave Hideaway.
My wife and I went as far as to brake lease to get away from this place. The horrid trash situation in other reviews is absolutely true. The management is terrible and between undisclosed fees, being forced to pay for "pest control" (cockroaches run rampent and never was nothing done about it), your mail gets sent back if you don't pick it up (they don't notify you that you have mail), and maintenance takes weeks to get anything done. When we moved in we had to DEEP clean out apartment because there was dirt and grime everywhere and mold all over the bathroom shower. Then after cleaning again when we moved out we handed in the keys. Management walked through a month later and charged us more fees for dirty sinks, refrigerators blinds carpets and of all things hair on the toilet. I cleaned the place before locking it up and a DI could have come in with a white glove. This tells me either someone was in there for that month or the dirt was planted. The pool view unbeknownst to us had cost us an extra 30 a month. That's 30 a month to listen to them play terrible music on a loop every day loud enough to hear it inside the apartment and be woken at night by people from other apartments coming in and parting as late as 0400. Again.... RUN!
Hideaway is the best apartment complex to lose your money. They have the laziest most unhelpful staff you cant find anywhere else. The monthly rent is higher than a mortgage, the expense of Valet Trash service is really garbage and on top of that there’s hidden fees. What really put the icing on the cake is when they charged my security deposit $80 carpet clean, $50 touch up and $50 other touch up, after my lease ended and I left the apartment clean. They’re excuse for the charge were pictures with small dirts on the floor, dust on the stove top and a water stain on the bathroom mirror. This place is very unprofessional and are quick to make a buck. 8-305
Do not rent from this place, looks good on the outside, but this place is pretty nasty. I have been here since March, 2019 and have been putting in work orders, online and in person, and no one ever responds.I just get emails saying my ticket is closed, with no work being done. They never clean the stairs and porches. You regularly see roaches dead and alive on the stairwells and porches. The hall ways smell like garbage! Tenants just throw their trash bags outside the door without using a trash can, which attract bugs and ants. The apartments have roaches also, I put in a request 2 months ago to have the apt. sprayed, again no response. They rarely cut the grass. Its a lot of money for crappy facilities and no response from management. Oh and I have requested a mailbox key 3 times and I still don't have a mailbox. I'm sprinting out of here when my lease is up!!!
The managers here are horrendous! I have never dealt with such disrespect in my life.
This is the worst apartment complex I have ever lived in. The management is so poor, they will smile and act sweet at first but it’s all deception. They don’t really care about the tenants, they just want to steal your money. We had issues from the day we moved in until months after we moved out. From trash to exposed electrical in the dishwasher, to the maintenance never being done after submitting several requests, including several safety issues such as missing locks. Then when we moved out we were charged multiple times for the same bill, and the manager then yelled at me just for trying to get the money they agreed that they owed me. I have never been so disrespected in my life. Avoid this place at all costs!
Very unorganized & unprofessional. Standards are not kept or met. Losing tenets paperwork & money orders but not accommodating them. Managment changes like the weather so we can not build a trust with you guys. I am very disappointed & to think I was getting luxury for these apartments. I recommend not to become a tenent at these apartments.
This place looks to be very nice but it’s an illusion. My unit was in the worst shape at move in and they didn’t say anything about it until the lease was signed. I've called corporate and left multiple messages with no response. So unprofessional on both ends!!
The apartment and location are great! Unfortunately those are the best features. The trash situation is horrible! There is only one dumpster for the entire property. The trash is picked up through a valet service for which you are charged monthly. They pick the trash up and throw it in the dumpster for you, something that the tenants can do themselves which would eliminate the unnecessary monthly fee. There is trash constantly overflowing out of the dumpster and on the ground surrounding the dumpster. The office staff is friendly but very incompetent. They can’t answer any questions and are only concerned with leasing as many apartments as possible.
I lived here for one summer and the staff was quite nice. The apartments seemed to be well maintained and the grounds are well maintained. There is however trash outside the trash compactor because some residents are dumb and don't put it in the compactor. Although I only lived here one summer it seems to be a nice place. Ok, now I have lived here for three years and my opinion has just gotten worse. They have bugs in this place and the pest control sucks. I work for a pest control company and the one this apartment complex uses is aweful. Also the air conditioning has been broken and after five phone calls, many broken promises, and a week and a half later nothing has happene. So I get to work 72 hour weeks in the heat and don’t even get to one home to a cool apartment.
I would not recommend this place to anyone. From the "show" apartment it looks nice, however look around the grounds and ask to see the apartment you will be living in. There is trash everywhere, the dumpster is always broken so trash literally piles up attracting bugs, besides the bugs it stinks! (You won't pass the dumpster on your tour). The state of the art fitness center has old machines that don't work, hop on the elliptical during the tour (staff are aware of this and say they have no plans to update/or fix them) I asked. In the summer the pool is over run by people that don't live in the complex' so don't plan on using it (there's no enforcement, you simply walk in). The apartment are dingy, the white cabinets are just a plastic coating that peels off, the dishwasher was so old it didn't work. Now let's get started on the staff.. they are horrible! Not helpful, rude and blame each other for any mistakes. I once placed a work order for flooded carpets, they went to the wrong apt, left the work order with MY phone number and name on it in someone else's apartment and said there was nothing wrong (after lifting up this families carpet). I then had that resident call harassing me about why they were in their apt messing with their carpets as if it was my fault. At no point should my personal information have been left in someone else's apartment, it then took another week to get them to understand they had gone to the wrong apartment trying to fix a flooded floor and I needed them to fix MY floor. When we moved out we got out carpets professionally cleaned, paid all up to date utilities and signed all paperwork. A month later we got a call from a creditor saying we owed money, for utilities and carpet cleaning (after giving a receipt from Stanley Steamer). I was livid, when we called the apartment complex they did what they always do, blame each other and make excuses. We were lucky as we kept all receipts and signed documents for prof, had we not it would have been a mess and we could have ended up paying them double, apparently after reading reviews this has happened a lot. Overall I wouldn't even rate this one star, but that's the lowest I can do. Simply don't live here, there are so many other options.
I’m wife and I stayed here for 2 1/2 years and would not recommend this property to anyone. The trash compactor never work so the trash was always stacked up in huge piles outside it. It would smell and attract a lot of flys. Then they started valet trash and people would place there trash out by the side walk in piles. They never enforced the rule for picking up dog poop and it was laying everywhere. They state that they have “State of the Art” work out room and that is a huge misleading. The elliptical was broken almost the whole time we were there. When we went to leave I contacted the manager almost 5 times with no response on what I needed to do to close out. We had the carpets cleaned and presented them with a receipt and we were still charged for not getting them cleaned. What pissed me off the most was I paid the last months utilities on the day it was do but some how was sent to a debt collector. The apartments look nice from the outside but don’t let that fool you. After the first month they told me my rent would go up 150 dollars. I told them we were leaving and then they lowered it back. Please beware of staying here. It’s not worth the heartache. I would give them 0 stars but I had to give them at least one.
There's a big difference between advertised and reality with these"luxury" apartments. Though the apartments themselves are not in bad shape, they're advertised amenities. It took almost a month for us to get a pass card for us to enter the small fitness center, the "carwash" vacuums don't work, the pool is very dirty (I'm talking lots of other people's hair) the outdoor grills are...interesting. Also there is always a heaping pile of trash near the "carwash". Several of our neighbors dealt with roaches, and they are VERY slow to deal with maintenance issues. Our biggest issue though as that we could smell whatever our neighbors decided to smoke. It just seeped through the holes in the wall that the utilities go through.
My wife and I have lived here since November. We love that area of Chesapeake and the grounds, pool, amenities, and buildings themselves are very nice. However, the staff is deplorable. There has been a high turnover rate from what I can tell so I never get to build a report with anyone in the office. There is no consistency with rules. We were given tiny dumb trashcans to keep inside our homes that would be collected and taken to the lone dumpster. All of the neighbors disregard this and there is trash in the breezeways almost round the clock. They make ZERO effort to repair external lights around the buildings. This is definitely a safety issue. Worst of all the dishwasher has been broken for nearly a MONTH. There have been 3 online maintenance requests and numerous calls (they don't actually pick up the phone now) and all I get is the run around. If you only need 1 or 2 rooms, consider THE BIRCHES right next door.
The grounds always looked horrible. The new trash service leaves trash all over the community. The walkways are filthy. They have gone through two managers and a new maintenance crew since I've been here. I would not recommend living here. Take your money some where else!
We are so glad we found Hideaway at Greenbrier!!! Shae was our leasing agent and she was awesome throughout the whole leasing/move in process. The insides of the apartments are beautiful as well, we have granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and an attached garage!!! The attached garage is so convenient, especially when it rains! The Location of the community is more then perfect, being a newbie to the area you don't have to go too far to get what you need. I would recommend Hideaway at Greenbrier as your next home!!
I have just moved into the Hideaway apartments and am so impressed with the facility as well as how accommodating Shae, one of the leasing agents, made my transition so easy! From the application process to move in day, any questions or concerns I may have had were handled in a professional and courteous manner by her. The community appear to be quiet and I get a sense of security thus far. I would recommend the Hideaway to friends and family.
I'll admit apartment was great, nice location. for some reason the staff turns over every few months. Although friendly, no one can answer your questions and when they do it doesn't make sense. Documentation is lost, fees inconsistent. Would not recommend. Stay away.
The structures are good but the managers will lie and manipulate to trick you out of your money. I just moved in. Staying 2-5 months. We agreed, whether we stay 2 or 5 months- the rent says the same. I turned in my notice to leave(as we'd bought our house). We got a form saying our rent was going up $300/mo for the rest of our stay. I questioned and showed the original contract. The Manager, Mrs Christian, said according to fine print, they only have to give me 5 days notice and they can raise my rent to whatever they want regardless of any earlier agreements. She immediately showed the exact page and line- apparently it happens a lot since she was so very familiar with it. I'm legally bound to 23 more days. Don't get scammed like I did. Don't trust crooks. Go ANYWHERE else. Jason- Bldg 909 apt 202.
This is the perfect building if you want a quick walk to the mall, amazing restaurants,or even run on the trail laid out throughout the complex. The amenity areas is great if your looking for an amazing workout or if you feel like relaxing in our indoor movie theater. The pool is great for tanning and amazing BBQ. The apartment managers are well maintained and incredibly helpful. Unlike other apartments in this area, it has a large courtyard with built in BBQ pits, dog trail for walks or runs with your pets and an amazing tanning salon. If your looking for a quite apartment with total privacy this apartment complex is for you.
Great Property, The property has shifter from just OK to great over the past 2 months due to new office management. Maintenance answers in a timely fashions, grounds are kept clean and the apartments are nice!
I honestly have to say that coming from NYC i love Virginia's housing. When I first moved out here I wanted something away from the loud crowd but still able to go out and have fun and be close to everything if that makes sense. I can say living at the Hideaway at Greenbrier is just that. I been here for a little over 2 years now and don't plan on leaving. The pool is well kept so is the landscaping. Maintenance responds in a promptly fashion and the actual employers really want to hear if theres anything that can be done better for the community. I definitely recommend living here its right in the heart of Hampton roads believe it or not the beach is 15 min away and so are many shops within walking distance.
Luxury Apt. is a stretch to say the least! Leasing staff are clueless and lazy. Maintaince requests are always "missing". The pool & overall grounds are in a constant unkept state! Trash & dog poo is a problem! Some of the listed amenities are false! No ceiling fans, tile floor, if they tell you about an "upgraded unit" having stainless steel appliances... Only 2 out of 3 are stainless steel. Do yourself a favor and don't bother!
The perfect apartment complex if you want to be kept near all the fun around town! A dog park to socialize with other pet owners, a luxurious swimming area great for families, and amazing customer service. Right behind a huge mall and great restaurants to choose from for a night out on the town! I wouldn't want to live anywhere else!
Great area in Chesapeake that is located right next to the Greenbrier mall, various shopping outlets, and restaurants. The "Hideaway" is secluded in a nice and quiet area surrounded by green trees, creeks and rivers, and with lots of other natural scenery. Friendly neighbors, and a diversity of good people, make this a welcoming environment that provides the peace of mind knowing that you are safe at night and that your personal belongings will be kept undisturbed when away on those weekend trips to beautiful OBX, NC.
