Known for rugged hills and rolling countryside mixed with developed areas called boroughs, the southern portion of Allegheny County remains a beautiful compliment to nearby city life in Pittsburgh. Located about 14 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, it takes about an hour to reach the city's center. One of Pennsylvania’s largest areas, South Allegheny consists of several towns and suburbs set in an idyllic landscape. Great destinations include historic Kennywood Park, which first opened in 1899 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Property Ratings at Highfield Crossing
Meant to write this a while ago... I rented a townhouse so I can't speak for the apartments. It looked good at first glance, but had way too many issues moving in that eventually, kind of got fixed. Steve the maintenance guy is great, though. Easy to put in tickets and usually quick. Him, the pool, and trail access might have been the only redeeming qualities. If you like being miserable because of the least considerate neighbors possibly on the planet, this is the place for you! The walls are so thin that it sounds like the people next to you are wild horses stomping up & down your stairs (fun at 6am everyday). One decided to start playing a trumpet or something all day. People smoking next door comes right into your townhouse. People taking up half of the parking lot & blocking you in to wash or jack up their loud, crappy cars then leaving all the bolts, pieces, & trash everywhere afterwards. Then the completely inconsiderate hoard of parents that refuse to watch their kids who throw rocks, get up in your back door/look in your house, pull your plants out, hit cars (watched one run directly into someone's white car on their bike & the parent did nothing), almost hit you with bikes, leave bikes/toys all over the sidewalks/courtyard, leave trash, literally SCREAM from 7:30am onward to where you can't even open any of your windows if you want any semblance of peace...I could go on. Kids are going to be kids- I get that, but these ones were just some of the worst behaved creatures I've ever come across. Then the parents have the audacity to get an attitude with YOU when confronted in a calm manner and give you nasty looks any time you step outside. Makes ya feel really unwelcome in your own place. Then management added in utility fees (on top of a nice rent increase), which were previously free, because the parents want to put out sprinklers that run all day and fill up pools which caused notes to be constantly put in the mailboxes and shut off the water about the "high water usage." So I had to pay for them then also not have water for days at a time. Michelle, the manager was always nice and usually helpful...but it just seems like the lease is never actually enforced since everyone just does whatever they want. Plus they refuse to deal with neighbor-to-neighbor issues so the only option is to call the police (LOL!). Overall, happy to be gone. I wouldn't suggest it. The rent was getting insanely high. The people suck. That's all.
In my opinion, I would not recommend renting a townhome at Highfield Court/Highfield Crossing in Bethel Park. When we first moved in we were promised that they were going to replace the upstairs carpets because the previous tenant lived there for several years. They were never replaced. The front wall was infested with wasps and it took 2 months to have that fixed. They finally called an independent pest control company who dropped powder in the walls which pushed over 100 of them inside. They do not have a storage facility with extra parts on hand to make repairs. If your hot water tank breaks in the dead of winter, like ours did, you better hope there is an empty apartment they will let you shower at because that hot water tank will have to be ordered. They actually installed a cracked mirror in our bathroom. (How do you not seek a crack and then proceed to still install it anyway?) The #1 priority for maintenance is turning over apartments and townhomes to be rented again. We had to wait three months to have a huge hole fixed in the living room ceiling which was dripping water because the roof and siding was incorrectly installed and maintenance was “busy”. With that being said Steve the maintenance man is the only good thing about Highfield Court. He’s very nice; however, one person can’t do everything. Don’t let the new siding fool you. The walls are paper thin. If your neighbor walks up their stairs it sounds like they are walking up your stairs. It’s loud enough to wake you up. If your neighbor snores...you hear it....dogs barking, children throwing tantrums...you will hear it all. They used to have nice private court yards with a small outdoor storage space. They took those down and installed what I refer to as “horse stalls”. You get to see everyone’s junk. It’s looks very trashy and unkept. On warm days there are toys littered throughout the common areas. There is very little parental supervision of children so expect to get “nasty grams” delivered to your mailbox about how parents will be charged for the destructive things their children are doing to the property. Management is highly unprofessional, the current manager acts as if she is running subsidized housing or a trailer park. She is curt, rude, and not very personable. Don’t bother going over her head because the higher you go the more appalling the behavior gets.
I honestly loved living here, the maintenance and management are both extremely responsive. I have had a couple things that needed fixed in my apartment and they always came in a timely manner and took care of the issue. The local area is nice and quiet and conveniently located next to a pharmacy, beer distributor, and restaurant. Not to mention, South Hills Village is less than 10min away. I had a spacious 1 bedroom apartment, always had a parking spot, and I truly couldn't have chosen a better place to live. Highly recommend.
Highfield Crossing is a great little community in Bethel Park. The apartments and townhomes have recently been renovated making the property look like new. The plan is conveniently located near South Hills Village mall and has instant access to the Montour Trail. The trail is by far and away my favorite thing about living here. I couldn’t recommend this place more highly and the management and maintenance people have been wonderful. If ever I call with an issue they fix it. I moved into my townhome in early 2019 and love it.
I have lived in Highfield Crossing for one year and I don't have any major complaints except the smell in all the buildings. The walls are very thin and can be annoying when the person(s) on the adjoining bedroom slam things against the wall or decides to call family overseas at 2:00 am. I like being right on the trail and enjoy watching the deer in the back yard and the people walking. It's a little noisy at night with the traffic outside especially since someone decided it was a good idea to cut down the trees along the trail. The property is old but well maintained. There are dogs/cats in ALL the buildings, not just the townhouses as stated in the advertisement. If you can tolerate the smell and noise for the convenience, then this is a decent place to rent.
