One of Alabama’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods, Highland Park, is also one of its prettiest. Highland Park features hilly, wooded streets lined with a diverse collection of architecture that includes historic mansions, office towers, and apartment buildings. Other important landmarks include the Highland Park Golf Course, Virginia Samford Theatre, and the Donnelly House.
Highland Park sits along the east side of Five Points South and Southtown and is within a few blocks of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. St. Vincent Hospital and the Southview Medical Group are also located in the neighborhood. Residents enjoy local hotspots like O’Henry’s Coffee and Tea and Rojo, along with several parks, including Rufus Rhodes Park, William J. Rushton Sr. Park, and Caldwell Park. Highland Park Golf Course, the oldest golf course in Alabama, is located on the east side of the neighborhood.

Property Ratings at Highland Cliffs
At first glance, the apartment is gorgeous, with new flooring, interior paint, light fixtures, etc. However, after a few days of usage, you can tell that everything has been installed in a rather shoddy way. For instance: • Stove door cannot be opened unless refrigerator door is also opened or moved. • Bathroom light fixture touches shower rod, so you cannot open shower curtain more than halfway. • Closet and front door strike plates do not even closely line up with handles. If the poor design of the apartment was not enough, you will soon discover that one end of the apartment complex houses two men with about 10 cats. (They release the cats from their apartment several times a day, while they also feed the local stray cats. Fleas have been a problem in the last few weeks, although pest control is offered at an additional cost.) The two men can also regularly be found drinking and yelling on their front porch as they attempt to play a guitar, so look forward to the bacchanalian concerts. One apartment resident has a dog that stays caged and barks nearly constantly throughout the day. It will loudly rattle its cage and bark for hours on end, much to my chagrin, as I frequently work from home. Power in the apartments frequently flickers on and off. If you see rain clouds, you will likely lose power soon. In conclusion, the leasing document/contract is really more of a suggestions in this poorly-designed apartment building. Your neighbors will get away with breaking every individual rule, from nuisance dogs to putting barbecue grills in front of your apartment doors. Also, good luck hearing back from management when you try to file a complaint.
