Separated from Minneapolis by the Mississippi River, the eastern half of the Twin Cities is known for being a bit more laid back and subdued. The landscape is dominated by grand government buildings, stately Victorian homes, and tranquil green spaces.
Saint Paul residents love to spend time outdoors. The city has earned international acclaim as one of the most bicycle-friendly communities in America, and many choose to get around by bike on a day-to-day basis. The Mississippi River is bordered by massive parks as it snakes around the city, providing lush greenery and scenic views. Although the winter months in Minnesota are infamous, locals laugh in the face of sub-freezing temperatures with the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, an immensely popular celebration that draws thousands every year. There’s a plethora of shopping and dining options downtown, including a number of breweries.

Property Ratings at Highland Village Apartments
I'll try to capture the experience of residing at Highland Village Apartments. At the time of this review, I've lived at HVA for about 15 years. Some residents have lived here much longer. My wonderful neighbor below me has lived here for about 10 years. Half of my family has lived at HVA at some point in time. Much of the staff lives on the premises. Apartments are charming and functional. With windows on three sides, they are filled with light and good air flow. There are trade offs where ever you live. Laundry in the basement is less convenient than in-home, but I don't go to the gym, so a little exercise on the stairs is good for me. Between the parking lot in the back, street parking, and a garage option, parking is adequate. You could also get by without a car. The neighborhood has about everything you need in walking distance, and there are several bus stops within a block. The premises are beautiful in every season. In the spring and summer, when you walk past flowering hedges, bushes, or trees, the breeze is fragrant. Fall is gorgeous with the changing leaves. And winter is cozy and bright with holiday lights and wreathes. I love the radiant heat in the winter. The staff is uber responsive. For example, after many years, my fridge went out late on a Friday night. By Saturday morning, I had a new fridge in my apartment. Management is continually re-investing in the property. They're always doing something to maintain (like replacing stretches of sidewalk) or upgrade (like creating gardening plots for residents and an outdoor grill/patio area for communal use). Over the years, office staff have gone above and beyond to help me out in different unforeseen circumstances. I'm a single female. I feel 100% comfortable and safe with all of the maintenance staff. By and large, it's quiet and peaceful, although I sleep with white noise regardless. It's very rare that I turn on the radio to mask noise/conversations from the street or within the apartment. Maybe if someone's moving in or out it's a little noisier, but that rarely happens, because most people don't move out. Every friend or guest I have over says the same thing, "I love your apartment!" I can't say enough good things about HVA.
I've lived in a Highland Village apartment for 3 years and have had a great experience! The apartments are really charming and well-kept. The few times I've needed something fixed (from normal wear and tear), there's always been someone out to fix it the same day. My experience with the management has been really positive, and I've found them to be helpful, friendly, and flexible. The location is fantastic- within walking distance of Target Express, Starbucks, Chipotle, Lunds & Byerly's, Patina, Haskell's, the Highland Grill...the list goes on. Plus, Minnehaha Falls and all its trails are a 20 minute walk. Highly recommend!
This place is a pretty great place to live if you're looking for something that feels homey and cozy. There is tons of natural light and the kitchen is awesome (center island and tons of space to cook!). On the surface it looks perfect, but after living there minor quirks begin to show up. Things like a small wine-rack above the cupboards that falls apart if you put wine in it, or a built-in shelf that we chose not to use because it didn't feel attached well enough to hold anything of much weight. However all these quirks have proven to be minor, and usually negligible, as they don't really affect the way you feel when you're living in the space. There's also a shared courtyard and our neighbor has it looking great with all the gardening she does. My roommates and I have really enjoyed living here.
For three years I have been very pleased living here! A variety of apartments, easy to decorate, with a nice ivy, vintage vibe. Garages, laundry and attentive property management on site. Conveintly located to resturaunts, boutiques, a small movie theater, coffee shops, and (recently added) Target Express right next door! Easily spend a weekend of entertainment all in walking distance.
I absolutely love this apartment. The staff are so helpful, SAME DAY maintenance requests, every time, they are so helpful. The apartments are well kept with beautiful hardwood floors and the location is so god, I don't think I'll ever have to drive again! Definitely recommend this apartment.
Drive off Cleveland Ave, you know the southern end where there are a ton of restaurants, a theatre, grocery stores, etc. and down Inner Drive to a long courtyard lined with red brick buildings covered in vines. The atmosphere feels like the setting of a little English neighborhood. The base of each building is lined with gardens that the residents can sink their hands into, and out towards the street there is parking a-plenty. In your apartment is a great layout that my boyfriend and I tailored to our taste with ease, and they even put in a new kitchen in per my request. The maintenance is on site, so the one problem we had with the sink leaking, it was fixed that day. Overall, its a great price, the right location, and a beautiful home.
Highland Village apartments are a hidden gem located practically within spitting distance of the downtown area of Highland Park. What is great about their location is that while it is so close to many useful stores (Target Express, Lunds, Chipotle, Caribou, etc) the apartments are tucked away and you are instantly in a quiet neighborhood when in these apartments. Another perk is the private drives which means there is plenty of parking to go around. The common area courtyards are maintained very well and are GORGEOUS. Any maintenance requests are answered quickly and effectively. The buildings themselves are older, but their charm is enticing. The wood floors throughout are STUNNING and so any older looking windows or other older aspects do not matter to me. If you are looking for charming ivy covered brick apartments located immediately next to the wonderful Highland Park downtown area, Highland Village apartments is where you want to be!!
