Property Ratings at Highland Woods Apartments
This place has more problems than it can fix, everything from the pool to the hot tub! The apartments, themselves are at this point are not only falling apart, but they won't even fix the things that are not working. Appliances, that are aged to well beyond my years. I was told " the last tenants didn't have a problem with that". Okay that doesn't mean that things don't go wrong. Their pool should be open, oh what pool? Hot tub, what we actually have one... I can't use it. Gym with what weights? And their treadmill doesn't work. What "gym" is that? Not to mention that the manager is kind and sweet until you're moved in, then could care less. Please, find another place unless you just don't care. I hate being here, and we thought this place would be nice. I was absolutely wrong.
I was concerned about all the negative reviews, but I found out they are under new management and the more recent reviews have been great, mine included. This is a great place to live, the complex grounds are well maintained, the gym has a range of equipment for a full body workout and is clean and cool, the pool is kept clean. The women in the office, Leslie and Eva, are friendly and helpful. The maintenance team is courteous and knowledgeable. I’ve been living here for 6 months and I love it!
Great place to live I have been here for about 4 months and have been taken care of constantly. The maint. staff are great and office staff are so kind and professional. Betty is great to talk to and the new manager Candice is so helpful and worked with me to resolve issues I had with the previous manager. The property is beautiful, pool is fun, and I love my apartment. If you are looking for a great place to call home, Highland Woods is it!!!!!!!!
The landscaping is beautiful, the best I had seen in SV. The management is very prompt on answering any questions or fixing any issues you may have, as well as the maintenance team. The complex is well kept and cared for, just like the tenants.
If Liz is still manager, don't rent here. After I moved out she sent a $500 bill to collections for my expenses including cleaning, carpet replacement (I had a PERFECT moving out inspection after cleaning for 2 weeks) and rent through end of July -- I moved out middle of June. Also, I never received my deposit, pet deposit and unused rent back. Her reason? "You hung up on me." Quote. Lesson: Watch Your Back. Getting the bill off collections and credit was a huge ordeal you don't want to go through.
This complex is horrible. I moved in 4 months ago and have had problems with sewer roaches and spiders. When I call the office all they say is "We don't have bug problems. You must have let them in your doors". Umm. No. I do not accept this answer. I have also been told that is it my responsibility to treat my apartment for the bugs. I have put in multiple work orders for bugs and only had an exterminator out once. I called in last week to make the office aware of a leak in my window (mind you it was sunny out and the water was orange - I have pictures and video) only to be told someone would be out in the next two days. When I called the following day to ask if someone was coming out, they told me they were super busy and probably not until the following day. I proceeded to inform them that I would be leaving my apartment and I did not want anyone servicing my apartment without me present. She asked me "So, you're leaving right now." I told her yes. I was walking out of my front door to my car not even 5 minutes later, and low and behold the maintenance man was walking to my door. This is not right and a violation of my rights, not to mention my request. This issue has still not been resolved, as he only placed a temporary fix, telling me he would return in the next day or so after 2pm (per my request) to fix my window. I called multiple times and still no one has come out to complete the work order.
My son is a renter in this place. He was asked to pay a late fee when in fact he paid the rent on time. He showed the email he received as a proof to the manager. The first manager according to him was cool and was instructed to show it to the second manager. The second manager asked for his phone and when he got his phone back, the email was nowhere to be found. Then, the manager told him that they will not return the late fee he paid since the email is not there. My son could not find the email. I believe the manager deleted the email so they can't payback my son. Management is supposed to take care of their tenants, not cheat on them...very unprofessional.
Property Manager at Highland Woods Apartments, Responded To This Review
Hi Mercy, We agree that taking care of our tenants is the top priority and we apologize for this mishap. After reviewing his ledger, you are correct. He should not have been charged a late fee. His payment was pending so it didn't reflect when late fees were ran, but it was on-time. We have credited back his account for the late fee charged in error. We also reached out directly to your son regarding this. Please let me know if there is anything else we can do for you at this time. Best Regards!
I moved in shortly ago. Its not bad imo. Its very quiet. Friendly neighbors. The staff seem to be on top of things. The grounds are kept up very nicely. Yes, when you do receive your "Rent" due notice, there are added amounts, but that is explained prior to signing the lease in detail as what to expect. Although I don't really agree with the amounts being charged for trash and sewage at times, it doesn't come as some "big" surprise. As far as the apt I moved into, It was very clean and maintained as much as any other preoccupied/empty apt would be. I can see where there was some prior leakage on the ceiling from water in the kitchen, not mold or anything to that effect, but the typical stained ceiling look. Keeping an eye on it, especially during the rainy days, I have not seen any leakage as of yet. So my thoughts say it has been repaired enough to eliminate the problem but the remaining stain is not something I want to see. Outside of that issue, it's a nice, clean and friendly complex with an attentive staff. ~One more note, it's bug-ie...roaches-YUCK!) free. NOT a common plus for apts in Sierra Vista.
I lived here for a year and a half. On the plus side it has really nice green grounds lots of big trees and that is the only good thing that can be said. My apartment had major leaking issues. They ended up replacing the bathroom ceiling after a couple weeks of all night dripping. The living room leaked and ruining books and the carpet had large mildew spots. Maybe you could find a unit without those problems but getting anything fixed takes weeks. Also just wait for your first bill you will be impressed with all the taxes, surcharges and what they will charge you for trash and water. Every single time your lease comes up they will slip a nice little increase in there if you don't want to move. Then on move out they come up with a 16 line item bill including cleaning a clean apartment for $50 more. That will eat up the deposit and give you a new bill to pay after you leave. I can't stress enough it was the worst apartment complex I ever dealt with.
It's good for temporary living but wouldn't recommend to others. Nice pool and gym but all the neighbors smell like skunk if you know what I mean.
