Stretching along the west side of I-69 in Downtown Houston, Discovery Green is the name of the neighborhood set between I-45 and Franklin St., as well as the park at its center. The park itself is the center of many city-wide events and celebrations, and some of Houston’s best restaurants and bars are just outside the sprawling green space.
Home to some of Houston’s most luxurious apartments, Discovery Green makes for convenient living in the fourth largest city in the country. Renting here puts residents minutes away from George R. Brown Convention Center, Minute Maid Park, and the House of Blues Houston. The shopping and entertainment centers along Main St. are just blocks away too.

Property Ratings at Houston House
Great help from Chantessa moving in. I am happy about living in affordable apartments in the downtown area. The apartments are ongoing a fantastic upgrade.
living here is good, especially for the convenience of downtown. it’s a very quiet community, not too much noise pollution, there’s a dog park adjacent so it’s very convenient for dog owners as well.

Location is the best part of this community. The roaches and lack of consistent hot water is overwhelming. I feel that this place needs to undergo a renovation being its the oldest complex. It has much potential and a real concierge would be great.

13 Years, thank you so much for calling Houston House home! If there's ever anything you need, please let us know. Thank again!
I generally like living here. It's usually a quiet and peaceful place to live. I like having central air/heat, a dishwasher and a great terrace view. Maintenance calls are generally responded to right away. The people that work in the office and the front desk are friendly and do their best to get things done and make this a better place to lice. I do, however, have a chronic roach problem that seems to be best controlled with glue traps.

Not too bad, something could change as far as way payments go for a rent. However I can’t complain, the people at the front and leading work with me and I guess others and can be helpful.

The Leasing operators are veery informative, kind, and always willing to help out even when they're busy. The community and people that live at the residents are very nice and open, willing to give real reasons on why you should live at the residents some being in the building for more than 20 years. Amazing city views and many places in walking distance such as restaurants, grocery stores, gyms, catholic and Christian churches.

I have lived here over three years and the Management and the leasing agents are great. The property care and take care of their tenants concerns and issues. They have great residents that look after one another. The property has trash validation from your front door every day. The amenities work wonderfully and it’s clean!

Other than ppl leaving clothes in the washers/dryers, and occasional messes in the elevator/hallways; I haven’t had any issues. Oh and the elevators seem to be broken a lot

Decent place with very good views of Downtown Houston. It is an old building so the rooms require a lot of maintenance work, but the guys that work here are very nice and helpful.

Thank you for the great review! With the exterior renovation complete, the basketball court floor replaced and the pool renovated, we still have more improvements on the way. Have a great day and please let us know if there's ever anything that we can help you with.
I went to visit on 5/21/2024 for apartment viewing. The views are beautiful for the Fannin floor plan. I parked in the garage which was dark and scary. I took the stairs to the leasing office which is creepy and filthy. Honestly management should start by pressure washing the stair way with bleach and maybe installing brighter lights. As well as installing key Fob access to prevent unwanted guest in entering the building. That can be a safety hazard as well as the garage have brighter lighting for resident's. I also noticed a lot of abandoned cars in the parking lot. You guys could tow and sell all the abandoned cars in the garage and maybe put it back into the community. The bathrooms are dated in all the units from what I seen. I seen a lot of reviews on roaches. Which is making me hesitate to moving in. I'm going to go back and fully inspect before I apply. I hope this helps someone!! The only downside is no washer and dryer and there is no hookup.
Property Manager at Houston House, Responded To This Review
Thank you for taking the time to leave the review with the details of your experience. These comments will be shared with the team. There are several improvements underway and planned for the future. The 3 year complete balcony rebuild and exterior project was completed last year. The roof has been replaced on the basketball court as well the court suface. That reopened two weeks ago. The pool renovation is now complete and the pool reopens tommorow for the long holiday weekend. The rest of the exterior deck should be starting soon. The ownersip group's design team is working on specs for the garage elevator lobbies and the residential hallways. Those are expected to start in the 3rd quarter this year. More positive changes are on the way!
I felt like I was walking through the New York projects that I hear in rap songs. Starting off with the parking structure. You need a parking pass to open the gate, OK but the gate is not always close, so anybody can drive in the parking structure to do God knows what. The exit gate is always open and I’ve had a car come in and almost hit me head on. I take it they didn’t have their parking pass to get into the regular gate and decided to use the exit instead. Now that you finally found a parking space amongst all of the abandoned cars that’s taking up spaces for actual residence, you now have to find a door that has a handle on it for you to actually open to get inside of the elevator room. You have now arrived inside of the elevator room that screams horror movie. Dark with light fixtures hanging from the ceiling, paint coming off of the doors and walls. Finally, you have made it to your floor, the elevator doors open and you’re greeted by carpet that is covered in dirt stains and God knows what. Honestly for the price they’re charging it’s absolutely ridiculous and actually embarrassing to have company come to my apartment. Houston houses you need to do better by your residents.
The move in process was easy and smooth. I love the building so far and the people around. Everyone is very helpful. The leasing agent Debbie was very helpful when i moved in. From the time i got here all the way to my move in. I can say this was a good choice.

roach infestation, the 9th floor pool area its trashy, burnt sofa seats, I sat on broken glass. I couldn't watch TV, where are the pool table balls. I pay for trash services and have not received 100 percent of what I pay for monthly. The only good this year since they opened my patio is downtown scene.

Hi Nancy, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent experience. We're disappointed to hear that you are not satisfied with your stay at Houston House. In case you're not aware, the pest control company is at the community every Tuesday. The treatments can be requested as you need them. They can also be done as a preventive measure as well. You don't have to wait until you have an issue. The pool cues and balls are kept downstairs and are available to be checked out at the front desk. If you're having issues with the Valet Waste nightly trash pickups, please make sure that the Community Manager is made aware so that it can be addressed with the provider. A new contract has been signed and the community will be changing providers mid-December. As the exterior construction winds down we'll be able to address the known issues with the exterior amenities. We understand that the construction has been an inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
My boyfriend lives here, and this building is nasty! Roaches everywhere, the outside smells like dog pee, and there’s never not construction happening in the building! It’s insane. The units are tiny and extremely basic looking too, nothing nice or to brag about. He’s moving out next month and we are both so happy! This place should be condemned.

Disgusting building. Stay way. Dirty garage, dirty hallways, roaches everywhere, bed bugs. No washers and dryers that actually work. Loud music. Hallways smell like drugs all the time. Amenities out dated and run down. Unsafe and unkept, people have been robbed at gunpoint in the garage which doesn't ever have a working gate and cars are broken into weekly!!!

Ali, we wish that we had been able to part ways on better terms. Non-renewing a lease and requiring someone to vacate, as happened last October, isn't something that we take lightly. After careful consideration, it was a step that we felt we had to take. We sincerely wish you the best and hope you've found somewhere to call home where you're happy.

Zach P., we're disappointed to hear of the negative experience you had at our location. We would like to have a better understanding about your experience. Please reach out to us at houstonhousemgr@greystar.com at your earliest convenience and we will do our best to resolve this with you.
The building is infested with roaches. Debris is common around the property grounds, in the hallways and common areas, and in the elevators. Sometimes the debris will just be scraps of paper or food , other times it's bags of leftover food, or bags of what appears to be laundry. The management does not communicate well, provides wrong information, or just doesn't bother to respond to emails.

I lived in Houston House apartments for 2 years, and all in all I found the experience to be average relative to other apartment rentals I have had over the past 10 years. Pros: - Location is walking distance to several restaurants and bars - Convenience store downstairs has very good selection of basic food/drink items that can be accessed conveniently through a door in the HH lobby - Maintenance is very prompt and does a great job - I was very pleased to find that on my last maintenance call they not only responded same day to fix the reported problem, but also replaced several other minor parts that were wearing out - I never saw a bug in my apartment, which is more than I can say about almost every other place I have lived - 24 hour front desk staff is convenient for receiving packages and makes the building feel more secure - Amazing view from my apt - Low rent price relative to other buildings in the same area Cons: - Elevators are frequently broken, causing minor and occasionally major (10 min) delays - Management team makes an effort, but they seem to have little common sense and basic competence for solving problems - but to be fair I would rate them as average in terms of an apartment management staff - Low rent is nice on the bank account, but remember you will be living with other residents who can afford a low rent building... - Not in the best area of downtown or Houston in general, make sure to never drive or (especially) walk west without making the proper precautions - Along the same lines as the two above, I have had things stolen from my car in the parking lot but I frequently leave my car unlocked so I don't blame the building, just make sure you lock your car. I have heard from other residents of the same thing happening with their apartments (left unlocked and things were stolen). Just remember a lot of your neighbors will be low rent and you are not living in the nicest area If you can handle the slightly shady area and neighbors, Houston House is a good place to stay downtown with reasonable rent. I recommend for early 20's single people who aren't home much - it worked perfectly for me during that time.
Great views from the 30th floor. Location close to many Downtown activities and restaurants.
I love high rise living and living downtown. The building is very old, built in 1966, but top to bottom remodeled about 3 years ago. Being a vintage building, there are still major, structural repairs being made, which means jack hammers and construction all over the place. Management does an excellent job of trying to make this as painless as possible, but when an entire section of balconies are being removed and rebuilt, there's only so much that can be done. Units do not have washers and driers, and the laundry room is very small. A 1966 floor plan includes small bathrooms and little storage. That's the bad - for the good, I love my apartment. My apartment is only 620 square feet, but over half of that square footage is in an expansive living room, dining room and kitchen, with floor to ceiling windows and an awesome view from the 27th floor. I'd much rather have a tiny bedroom and bathroom, if the trade off is a bright and open common area - where I spend all of my time. Being cooled by a chiller unit, rather than individual A/C compressors, I can keep my apartment under 70 degrees, with minimal electricity bills. This is truly a god send in Houston, when it's 100 outside. The location is excellent and close to work. For me to find a similarly finished apartment in this neighborhood, I'd have to spend AT LEAST $1000 more per month, so my overall value is excellent.
Great views from this downtown high rise. Modestly priced considering the location, mainly due to the new high rise residential that went up across the street. Downside is there is no washer or dryer in the apartment (not even connections) and you will have to brave the elevators once in a while. Overall though it's a great deal for a great apartment.
