For over half a century, Huntsville has been associated with the development and testing of rockets for space exploration. This idyllic community in the Appalachian foothills of northern Alabama is a powerhouse of high-tech innovation for both civilian and military applications, with Redstone Arsenal, Cummings Research Park, and NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center driving the local economy. Living in the Huntsville area, you are likely to hear sounds from helicopters and rocket engines on a fairly regular basis.
The city’s intellectual values extend into the local schools as well, which are among the best in the state. But even though the city is home to such a large and unique scientific community, Huntsville retains a timeless atmosphere of Southern charm. Beautiful historic architecture is all around, especially in the Twickenham and Old Town Historic Districts.
Huntsville offers an array of apartments and houses available for rent in every style and budget imaginable.

Property Ratings at Hunters Ridge
The walls are very thin. If you live downstairs you can hear every step that your upstairs neighbors take. There’s a lot of trash outside. Lots of people double park in the lot, including the staff. Half of my outlets don’t work. On the plus side, maintenance requests are handled within 48 hours. The building is about 40 years old and I hope they tear it down soon.
The tour was convenient but impersonal, managed entirely through automated text/e-mail. Walking up, I noticed trash/debris at the base of the buildings, and the faucet outside was dripping (it had a rag wrapped around it). The entryway smelled like smoke, and so did the available unit; the neighbors seemed nice, though. The unit had been cleaned and prepped, but there was still trash and debris from maintenance. Looks like they had done some work but did not clean up after themselves. Some surfaces were freshly painted (badly) and the cable connection was ripped from the wall. Walk-in closets are shallow and not actually walk-in. The bottom line is it's liveable but definitely not nearly as nice as the pictures. I wouldn't expect the maintenance to do much. It is cheap and convenient to the highway.
The office staff would not set up a tour of the apartment. I asked several times to see the apartment. They kept reassuring me it was true to the photos. On move in day, when I walked up to the apartment, there were insurmountable dusty cobwebs and dirt stains all over the sides of the building and side walk. There was old broken furnitue sitting in the breeze way, and trash every where. When I walked into the apartment, it had not been cleaned. It was a cramped in space. Caked up dust and dirt was on the fireplace screens, with a lot of left behind trash in the base. The kitchen shelves and counters were falling apart, and had old stains. There was trash in the floor corners. The apartment had a musty smell. The bath tub was dirty and beat up. The faucet and drain was corroded. There were roaches in the bottom of the cabinets that were falling apart and dirty. It looked like they painted over all the dirt and grime. Needless to say, it looked nothing like their pictures, not even close. When I went to the office to let them know, I was dismissed, and given every excuse they could come up with not to make the situation right. They did not even try. I was told there was nothing they could do. The regional lady was there, and decided to take a lunch during all this. And to make matters worse, they kept part of my deposit. Terrible place, and terrible service!
Looking for the absolute worst possible place to live in Huntsville??? LOOK NO FURTHER! Never any help from the office. The laundry facility in my building was broken the entire time I lived there even after submitting work orders. Dead tree fell on my apartment. Was left there for weeks. Dead limb smashed my car windshield after I submitted work order about dead trees. Had to call police for gun shots in the parking lot multiple times. And to top it all off they charged me over $200 on fake fees on move out. I would rather be homeless than live here again.
I have lived here for 6 months now and will not be renewing. Buildings are falling apart. Laundry facilities are constantly broken. Also isn't a safe area. Multiple gun shots have been heard since living here. The grounds have multiple dead trees that the apartment hasn't taken care of. A limb fell and smashed a guest's windshield. The apartment offered no help.
When I first moved here it was ONLY because my room was given away on campus and school started the next week. When I moved in my TOILET wasnt even installed and was sitting in the bathtub. When I finally got them to come put it in they didnt even install it correctly and it leaked. I was promised my patio would be redone it NEVER was. When I moved out although I had a professional cleaner come and clean after I moved out and I got my deposit they CHARGED me for it being dirty even though I had my own pictures after it was cleaned. They can never keep staff and they give you the complete run around. The cameras that they have on each building are just for show because my car was broken into and they couldnt give me footage. Also they dont tell you that the 1BD 1B doesnt come with washer and dryer connection like they advertise. I would rather be homeless than stay in this HELL HOLE again.
This place was literally a living nightmare. 1. The outside of the buildings look dirty and terrible, it seems as if they haven’t pressure washed them in years . 2. When I first moved in the walls were so dirty as if they didn’t even paint them . It was beyond dusty even the air filter was bad. 3. There were big water bugs everywhere they even fly. Until this day they’re still here the only thing that kills them is the boric acid that I had to put down . 4. It’s always very smelly outside and the smell gets into your house . 5. Still on the bug thing , it was so bad I couldn’t even stay in my house for a week they were coming out of the vents and everything . 6. My car would always get broken into. 7. Even with all these issues they would not let me out of my lease they even refused to paint the walls . Don’t live here even if you’re desperate take my word for it I’m glad my lease is up next month .
There is a roach infestation!!!! It takes months to get maintenance to get to a work order , I mean MONTHSSS!! They paint over everything before you move in without cleaning . Anytime you have an issue with your apartment they give you the run around .
I hate that that person who left a review had such a bad experience because I love it here! They gave me a gorgeous apartment with hardwood floor and brand new appliances and I didn't pay much at all. Maintenance is always on time or comes right away whenever I need anything and they fix the problem immediately. The neighbors are really nice and the people in the office are really cool.
This place is horrible I can’t wait for my lease to be up to leave the whole apartment is constantly falling apart you put in work orders and you don’t hear anything back you call and tell them it’s an emergency they say they will get somebody done and they never do the workers literally do nothing all day long I see them sitting around talking all day they never come and then they will say they came and knocked on the door and nobody answered but they will never knock on the door I can hear people walking down the hallway so I would definitely hear somebody knocking on he door my spare bedroom has been flooded twice because of the old ac unit and water heater that look like they are from the 80s my toilet is broke there’s a crack in my tub so if you take a bath water gets all over the floor and there’s a big wet spot on my ceiling from the upstairs neighbors tub that is getting all moldy that the workers have seen multiple times and never done anything about it. This place is the worst place trust me when I tell you I moved here not knowing what apartment places were good and bad and I just so happened to pick the worst one any of the apartment complexes are better then this one. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
