Canoga Park is a unique whirlwind when it comes to community, diversity, conveniences, and atmosphere. With great public schools and numerous community parks, Canoga Park offers a family-friendly environment many residents appreciate.
Canoga Park is an urban area in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, and is just 26 miles northwest of Downtown LA, a 35-minute commute by car. With great proximity to LA and everything that surrounds it, Canoga Park remains a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of big city living. Though the city is highly populated, the suburban feel makes this city feel like home.
Various restaurants and retailers reside around town, but Canoga Park is mainly residential.

Property Ratings at Independence Park Apartments
I have lived here for 2 months and have seen roaches on a near daily basis, from the first night I moved in to last night. I keep very clean, take out the trash daily, yet the problem persists. Management only treats individual units when they complain and the roaches come in from other units after they treat my unit. They won’t treat neighboring units thus far. I have been very communicative to management and they have been unable to solve the problem or provide any kind of timeline as to when the roaches issue should be fixed.

Rented for a year. There is not central AC. In my unit the only (small, wall-installed) AC unit was in the living room. Mind you, it gets to 110 degrees during summers, and I was on the top floor. My bedroom was always blistering hot while the living room stayed cool. I had to invest in an oscillating floor fan just to make it through. A few months after I signed the lease, they gave me a few days notice that there would be construction on the roof for a week. The construction lasted two months. I woke up to drills directly above my head starting at 7 am every day. They constantly shut the water off with no prior notice. Happened at least 3 times a month in my 1year lease. I even missed work because I couldn’t shower before my shift. The office is ALWAYS closed. No prior notice for that either. It takes days to get a response from the office when you leave a voicemail or send an email. Be prepared to be blamed for anything that breaks/goes wrong in your apartment. My ceiling bathroom fan randomly fell out of the roof and onto my head. Their response was to accuse me of messing with the screws. Why would anyone do that??? And to top it all off, there was a pile of dust in it that fell on me as well :) They never did fix it. The maintenance man said he’d come back and never did even after I called the office. And the first week I moved in (during winter), I turned on the heater (that points only down the hallway and not into the living room or bedroom) and it continuously set off my fire alarm and created smoke. I called maintenance & they cleaned at least 3 years worth of dust at the bottom that had been burning. That can’t be legal nor healthy. Roaches occupied the hallways and sometimes your unit. You will almost always be greeted by a roach when entering your unit at night. The walls are incredibly thin. I could hear the alarm clock of the person BENEATH every day. Domestic violence is also rampant. You will constantly hear your neighbors fighting and threatening each other in the hallways. The on-site laundry room has been broken into multiple times. There’s always homeless digging through the complex trash in the middle of the day. They promised they were building a new gym soon. Don’t fall for it. They aren’t building anything new, just using excuses to raise rent. The price has skyrocketed $400 in just a year. Just because you’re surrounded by newer nicer complexes, it doesn’t mean you should raise your prices without first improving.

This is the worst living experience I've ever had. The roach infestation is horrendous!!!! The water is always shut off!!! It takes forever for management to get back to you. Don't rent here!!!!!
