Property Ratings at International Village Lombard
I have been a resident at International Village for a few years now and it is a very nice, friendly, and safe community. The residents here are all very family orientated and the apartment is located just across from a lovely neighborhood and right across from a grocery store. It is a large complex but the maintenance staff usually handles requests within the week and does an exellent job of maintaining the gym, both pools, and the grounds. All of the staff members always do their very best to create a welcoming community. Particularly, my expereinces with Mariam, Alexis, and Jake have been extremely good and all of them have been helpful and kind, and always go out of their way to assist the residents here.
DO NOT MOVE HERE OR YOU WILL REGRET IT! I have lived at International Village since 2018 and I have to say, this is the worst apartment complex I have ever experienced. The ONLY reason I lived here for 4 years is because, I am saving to purchase a home in Florida, and don't want to move until I am ready to go. Here's a list of what you can expect if you move here. 1. The hallways smell terrible from tenants cooking. 2. The buildings were poorly constructed, and you will hear your neighbors next door, above or below you, and if you're not living on the top floor, you better be okay with hearing your neighbor above you sounding like they're going to come through your ceiling when they walk. 3. Some tenants have no consideration for other tenants because, they allow their children to run up and down screaming in the hallway, which is in fact, a violation of their lease and the management DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT. You will mean NOTHING to management but simply just another renter, and they can care less about whether you are a good tenant who is quiet, doesn't disturb anyone, and who pays their rent on time. Here is a perfect example! As I said, I have lived here since 2018 and I have been a model tenant since moving here. I paid my rent on the 1st every month since moving here, I have been a quiet tenant, and have never had one complaint against me from other tenants. And after that being said, the management just served me with a letter stating that, they will not be renewing my lease and WITHOUT ANY REASON WHY giving me 45 days to move.
No stars. I have lived there for 2 weeks, I was going to attend Midwestern University which was about 10 minutes away from the apartment. Due to unforeseen circumstances I had to vacate the apartment. I was accepted to Pacific university located in the state of Oregon last minute, which was a program of my first choice and the I have presented this information to management, I was told that hence I have signed the lease with the termination addendum, I had to abide by that lease. There was no intention from the start of me leaving this apartment. I have gone to the office multiple times to discuss the situation, wrote e-mails, sent letters, and when I have asked to speak with the landlord I was told that I can only speak with management. Let me go over the termination addendum. In that addendum, it states that I have to live in the apartment for 3 months before giving a termination notice and a fee of $2,600, which i was okay with paying. HOWEVER, in addition to that fee the apartment complex wanted 3 months of rent, although I was not going to be living there, another months worth of rent for liquidation damages AND and fee of $2,600. The place does not allow subleasing and does not want to compromise. You have an option to skip, and hope that someone takes your apartment, but you are under the risk of paying your whole lease out if nobody takes over the apartment. ALSO you are being sent the leave via the e-mail to sign, before you even see the apartment you are going to lease before you see YOUR apartment. Now let me mention the apartment buildings themselves. Some are renovated and you will notice it when you are walking around the complex, and some are... well some have been the same since the place was built, don't really know when but by the looks of it I'd say the 60's. When you walk inside the building you might notice splotches on the carped and some of the building might have the huge gashes on the sides of the building inhabited by birds. When you will go into the building to take a look at YOUR apartment, I will advise you to go up on the third floor and look up at the ceiling which may have water stains, which there are, indicating problems with the roof. When you don't use the mail stairs or the elevator and go to the back stairs they REAK due to the carpet and the walls being infused with cigarette smoke.
You can not say you were not warned if you choose to move here. We have lived here for almost 14 years. Why are we still here? Too old and sick to move so it's taking a minute to get it together and find suitable lodgings but we are getting close. It won't be long and we will make it out. All the things people are writing about are 100% true. Believe them!!! Go elsewhere for these prices if you can. This is not a cheap place to live nor is it nice. The residents (the majority of them) are absolutely awful. It is all true about the horrible apartment invading smells and no sound proofing. Children run amuck. The hallways are their playground The many stay-at-home mothers use the hallways as their daily gathering spot while their children run and play. You can even hear people pass gas! It is an expensive project! Management could give a hoot. All they want is to lock you into a lease and then all the niceness ends. One last thing. That apartment you see in these photos is not gonna be like the one you get!
First off utilities are shared amongst the whole building. Yes that’s right you will be paying for your neighbors water and gas etc. Our water was turned off multiple times without warning and for long periods of time. Even though we were paying more in water bills than I have ever paid for a home or apartment, our water would also flucuate from scalding hot to freezing. The office was kind and helpful but the management of this company and the companies they choose to do business with are very poor. I have spent more time frustrated on the phone with someone from international village than I would like to, and I have been moved out for a month. Please take it from me... do not move here.
I have given this apartment complex plenty of chances but I have finally had enough. Our water has been turned of 5 times in our stay here if only 3 1/2 months. Each time for about 5-6 hours. I have called the office and no one knows what they are doing. The first time there was no notice, and the other 4 times they posted signs on the doors in and out of the building and said they sent an email (we didn't receive an email and neither did any of our friends living in the same building). The signs sometimes weren't even posted until the day of. Other than that the halls and building smell like curry and cigarette smoke and the office staff are incompetent.
Management treats you like bad from the moment you sign there lease..I had very bad experiences with them. Many of my friends vacated in one year complaining the management...if you like bugs this is the right apartment to rent... because there are everywhere on your apartment...if you ask me, rating it one star is far too gracious..
The carpet in this apartments look white and are very old fashioned type. They fine the apartment residents with hefty amounts after vacating. They change the carpets on resident's money and they have a stupid policy on that. All the discounts that they seem to provide while you take the apartment will be taken back from you as hefty fines while you leave. Ask the residents personally and they will agree with this.
DO NOT LIVE HERE IF YOU WANT TO LIVE IN PEACE. We moved in January 2016 and have had nothing but issues with our neighbors. They are extremely disrespectful, letting their kids run up and down the hallways screaming and playing games. The smell is nothing but curry and the most disgusting spices I have ever smelled and they eventually end up coming into your apartment due to the very thin front door. You can see cracks and light through our front door due to the cheapness of the material. The walls are SO PAPER THIN you can hear conversations of your neighbors and anytime they close a cabinet door, bathroom door, flush the toilet, you can hear EVERYTHING. This is the worst place I have ever lived and will 100% NOT be renewing my lease and would never wish this upon my worst enemy. Save your money and do not live here. LIVING IN YOUR CAR WOULD BE BETTER THAN THIS DUMP.
I needed a very nice place to use as a vehicle to keep me on track of obtaining a Doctor of Naturopathic professional degree from National University of Health Sciences. This apartment is exactly what I needed and I could not have done it without this website. Apartments.com had great features that allowed me to oversee the apartment without physically being there and allowed me to feel comfortable in making a life transition. I am so grateful for this website and my new apartment!!
