Although it is the state capital and located deep in the heart of Texas, Austin generally has more in common with places like Portland, Oregon rather than other large Lone Star State cities like Dallas or Houston. Consistently named one of the best places to live in America, Austin combines passions for food, live music, entrepreneurship, iconoclastic attitudes, and Texas traditions into a wholly unique cocktail that people just can’t get enough of.
The expansion of the tech industry and the wild popularity of music festivals like Austin City Limits and South by Southwest have boosted Austin’s profile as one of America’s most in-demand communities of the 21st century so far, attracting people from all walks of life and every corner of the world.
Regardless of their atypical culture, Texas pride runs deep in Austinites. Many of the city’s hip, young entrepreneurs are more than happy to deal in classic regional staples like Tex-Mex food, cowboy boots, and country music.

Property Ratings at Ironhorse Flats
-Be careful signing here. I'm not sure if it is miscommunication between the office staff or just not making people aware of things but I have had a problem with being charged extra fees. -For example, I wasn't told until my move-in day (June 15th) that I needed to have the electricity set up with the city of Austin before I could move-in. Luckily, I was able to set up my utility account that day (June 15th) but it wouldn't switch over to my name until the next day (June 16th). I let the office staff know this and they made it seem like it would be fine and did not tell me that if I chose to move-in that day that I would be charged an additional $55.00 every day that it wasn't in my name (even when I asked if it would be a problem - see attached). Also, my utilities on that statement were only $24 for 15 days of utilities, so I was charged more than double ($55) for one day of not having the utilities in my name. -It seems odd that you can't move-in without having electricity set up, but they allowed me to move-in knowing that the utilities wouldn't transfer until the next day. So if I was allowed to move-in then that means that utilities were set up correctly, right? So why was I charged this fee for not having it set up correctly??? I guess I assumed that since they didn't say anything when I came to move-in that I wouldn't be charged for the one day of not having utilities set up. If I would've known, I would've just waited another day. It seems like a "Gotcha" ploy, which worries me that there are more to come. -The most frustrating part was trying to get this situation figured out. I emailed first to see how to get this fixed. No response. I called on Monday and was told I would be called back with an answer. No response. I called Wednesday and was told I would be called back with an answer. No response. So I called Friday and was able to speak with the office manager, Susy, and was told that their regional, Sean, said that it was in the lease agreement that I signed and there is nothing they can do. -The leasing staff seems nice and they usually answer the phone when I call, but I'm now just worried about more problems coming up and not being able to get them solved.
Too much of a hassle. Never lived here or signed lease but some how they refuse to give me my deposit back. Looked on websites to see if they can keep my deposit but never found evidence that they are entitled to keep it. So I will be going to tenants Council with my case.
I'd like to start off that I'm not a fan of writing reviews, unless it's a positive message. I visited Ironhorse Flats and was greeted by Patty with a warm sincere welcome! She assisted me with an apartment home within my time frame and budget. It's a quaint community w/ great vibes! Fitness center 24/7, pool open year round! The apartment home is very spacious and has an awesome customized closet & cabinetry, allowing me to have ample space for my drafting table, no dresser needed! Yay! being an artist it's important not to feel claustrophobic. She was knowledgeable about her surrounding community and fun facts about Austin. I would highly recommend!
What I like: Location. It's close to my kids school and the college that I teach at. What I dislike: The buildings are very old and no matter how well you paint them, they are always breaking down and falling apart. This also leads to an extreme bug problem that even their pest control cannot fix. Also, a lot of the kids from the surrounding apartments sneak into the pool so its far from relaxing.
Do you enjoy inconvenience? Do you enjoy having your car towed even though you have a parking sticker? Do you enjoy being without A/C and other utilities during the summer months for days at a time? Do you enjoy an office staff who forgets that you're moving in and isn't ready for you even though you've already paid rent for the month? Do you enjoy your money being eaten by the laundry card machine? Do you enjoy a constantly broken parking lot gate that often leaves you locked into the parking lot or locked out? If you're a sadomasochist and genuinely enjoy displeasure and being treated less than human then please lease this place. You'll be truly at home. For anyone else that doesn't enjoy these things please choose a different place to live. There are cheaper, better, and more convenient places in this neighborhood. The office staff here is truly horrendous. They will not help you with any of these problems and more than likely blame you for their own incompetence. The Ironhourse Flats (aka The Meridian) is the worst place you could choose in north central Austin. Seriously, run away from this place!
