Property Ratings at Islander Apartments
worst experience we ever had!!! at first, during the first visit, the manager of the leasing office, when clarifying our wishes, treated us with contempt and recommended looking for cheaper apartments, then when we signed the lease and came to the apartment, we were a little shocked, because there was a smell from the previous owner (some essential oils or something like that) the bathroom was dirty and the cabinets in the kitchen had to be constantly repaired by yourself because the drawer fell off and the door wouldn't close, the bathroom constantly had mold that we never got rid of, the neighbors smelled of food and sometimes marijuana, it was difficult to cook something in the apartment from the food, because the smoke detectors were constantly activated, there were wasps living on the balcony, and almost when we left, we heard the smell of gas, what did they think, we turned off the gas for the night, then turned it on and said that we should contact the gas service even though we had nothing to do with it. As a result, they charged us $1,026 for the partial replacement of the carpet and some other work, although we left the apartment in a better condition than when we moved in, by the way, our friends also lived there and they were also charged for the replacement of the carpet. have not seen this!!!!!

Do not settle in these apartments, from the very beginning, when my husband and I came to the leasing office, the employees looked down on us and talked to us. The apartment constantly smelled of food from other apartments, and it was impossible to cook anything because the smoke detectors were constantly triggered, the drawers in the kitchen constantly broke and needed to be fixed, everything in the bathroom constantly needed to be cleaned of fungus and mold, no one ever cleans the area , everything is in the poop of geese and dogs, it is impossible to walk with a child. The entrance smelled of marijuana every day. The door to the entrance is constantly open, the key to the box did not work well, the carpet in the entrance is constantly dirty. And when we moved out, they didn't give us a cent of the deposit back, and they also wrote that we owe $43 for replacing the carpet, even though our carpet was clean, not torn, in the same condition it was in when we first moved in.

I give this review one star ONLY because of its great location! Close to freeway which is nice for work and middleburg heights is a great neighborhood, and community. But those things alone have nothing to do with the islander itself. I have lived here for four and a half years and can’t wait to leave. In my time we have lost power at least 40 times and many times for a full day. They turn the water off without notice (even if your kids are in the shower) and say it was a emergency they had to do it, it will be fixed as soon as they can. I’ve worked building maintenance for 11 years YOU ALWAYS INFORM THOSE YOU ARE INCONVENIENCING (even if it’s after you shut down the water for said emergency). I’ve had my tub back feeding someone’s toilet (I can hear the flushes from other apts) for two weeks before they even looked at it meanwhile they tell you to take your wife and small children to the community showers... it took them 6 months to replace a microwave, and I have lived my last two years looking at a dishwasher they doesn’t work.. they don’t care here, but will still charge you too dollar. I grew up in a much worse place so when I had kids we wanted a better environment for them, but on this aspect since we been here they have taken down two outdoor parks. We get letters EVERYTIME our kids want to ride there bikes about where they can and cannot ride, they refer you to the pond that has a hundred people walking around to have your kids ride a bike with training wheels.. this place is a joke I can go on and on, trash dumpster is a mile away, no parking, so on and so on not to mention out of all the on staff employees I’ve meet 90% of them are rude and stuck up.
I have been living here for all of 2020. Since I moved in I have been paying for an outdoor swimming pool, an indoor swimming pool and spa, a full gum and a communal conference area. Although the whole year all of them have been closed and no rent discount has been offered. When something breaks, they take weeks to fix it. The only thing these people care about is having rent payed on time. I had a month off due to covid and could not afford to pay a month. I was willing to pay more every month to catch up but they were having no part of it. They took me to court to try to evict me during a pandemic. This place is run by terrible people who have no empathy, if you choose to live here you better be prepared to be ripped off.
I’ve been living at the islander for a year now. It has been a nice little place and I’ve enjoyed staying here. The issue I have is in order for me to renew my lease they raised the rent almost a whole $150 a month more for the next year to renew. It’s almost like they’re forcing me out. I’ve always paid on time it’s ridiculous. I liked the place but I won’t be ripped off.
The leasing manager is a JOKE !! He doesn’t care about nothing but money . He is rude !! If you like bugs then this is perfect place for you !! Only good thing is the Walmart is right down the street. The pool was always broken . DO NOT MOVE HERE !!!

We are terribly sorry to hear that your time with us has not met your expectations, but we assure you that resident comfort and satisfaction are our top priorities. Please reach out to us at your earliest convenience to speak with our property manager.
As a long time resident , I can adhere to the benefits of living in Islander. Location wise its perfect. Right next to Walmart and the highways. The apartments are older being built int he 70s , But they are still spacious and nice. You cant beat the community feeling you get in Islander with its 3 tennis courts, Indoor , Outdoor pool and the nice walking trail around the lake. The naysayers can point out the quirks. But every other apartment has its own fault. Overall you just cant beat Islander in its value for price. Free heat , water , trash . where do you get those benefits. Maintenance has always been good . The recent spate of car tire robberies is bad but the cops have to do a better job . Nothing much you can do when you dont have closed garages. So in short, with its few limitations , Islander apartments is a great community

Thank you for your 5 star review! Resident satisfaction is our top priority and we're thrilled that you've had a great experience at The Islander. As you mentioned, our staff works diligently to address and correct any issues whenever they arise; although, it goes without saying that we do our best to prevent issues from ever coming to fruition. If we can ever do anything to make your residency with us even more enjoyable, please let us know.
I hate this community, Staff is very arrogant and cheating, they charge all unnecessary charges when you vacate, I lived 3.5 years and they gave me already used old carpet when I rented, its life was almost completed, but they still charged for carpet replacement to me, I will not never ever recommend any one to this community.

We are sorry to hear that after nearly four years, you will be walking away from the community with such a negative perception. While we certainly understand that charges related to a move-out can be a source of frustration, we can assure you these fees have been carefully calculated and are in accordance with the policies outlined in your lease. If you would like to discuss the details of these charges, we are always available in the office. Until then, we wish you the best of luck on your next housing adventure.
Referred to this place by coworker not being from the area I decided to go ahead and sign lease ! The insulation is terrible so on third floor in summer it's really hot up here my air runs non stop never moves past 85 ! Then it shuts off constantly you have to call maintenance to come out but of its a weekend it's not considered an emergency ! My electric bill is 200 in the summer ! This place is ridiculous ! After you move in and lease is up rent goes up 60 dollars ! This place is a joke ! I'm sweating as I write this with broken air and considered not an emergency ! Needless to say my lease is up the 30 of this month I already am packed and ready to move to another apartment !!
I have been living here since Nove 2015, When it rains, it rains in my unit. Mike head maintence told me what do you expect it raining. What I expect is not to have rain coming into apartment from the window when window is closed. It rains due to the caulk around the window is missing and he refused to fix it. also the bathroom faucet will not shut off, since I do not pay for water it is ok with me if they want to waste water. the key to the main door sometimes works and sometime it does not. Told by Mike to just wiggle the key and it will work. Cannot wait to my lease is up.
Its great if you want maintenance to enter you apartment completely unannounced in the middle of the night. Want to know you're locked door means nothing? Well this is the worst place I have lived across the country. Staff is rude and doesn't care whatsoever

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on apartments.com. We care about your experience at The Islander and we would like to assure you that the only time we would enter an apartment without notice would be for a maintenance emergency. Please feel free to contact the maintenance office or property manager so that we may discuss the issue with you directly. We look forward to hearing from you.
I moved in my apartment on 9/20/14 and moved out 7/31/15. Ten days after I moved in I woke up to my car sitting on bricks. My rims were stolen off of my brand new 2014 Corolla. The people in the office seemed to show no concern or sympathy and told me it was my problem and there's nothing they can do. There was a camera pointing directly at my garage and I wanted them to investigate my situation. After days went by without hearing anything I went back up there and they claimed they couldn't see anything. I then called the owner of western reserve (the terrible company who does their monthly billing) and he was very rude and unprofessional. He said he's not my "daddy" and to never call him again and that it's my problem to deal with. They advertise "Pets Welcome" yet when I got my puppy they started harassing me weekly and threatened to evict me. There were multiple dogs and cats in my building and there was a dog park right behind me. Apparently not all of their buildings were pet friendly which they neglected to tell me. I explained I'm in the process of buying a house but they weren't backing off. I had maintenance guys yelling at me to the point where I didn't even feel comfortable walking my dog. I finally purchased my first home and moved out July 31st. I had someone move into my apartment 15 days later on August 15th. They advertise a free month rent with a 12 month lease. They give you the second month free so you're stuck staying all 13 months. A month after I left I received a bill in the mail for almost $1200. They charged me back my "Free" month of rent and for August even though I moved out in July. Also, they attached hundreds of dollars in "redecorating" fees. Apparently everyone has to pay these and there's no way around it. I hired people to come and clean my apartment before I left and it was immaculate. I have asked multiple people for an itemized list or some type of documentation stating what was redecorated. They have neglected to send me anything and keep threatening me with more late charges and collection companies. I have awesome credit and now it is being jeopardized because I complied with their request to move out. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Also, the same company owns Pleasant Lake Apartments, so stay away from there as well.
I love my apartment at The Islander for many different reasons. First, it is located near the highways so getting around anywhere is convenient. Next, the maintenance staff is quick to fix any problems. Finally, the apartment is located next to a wooded area, so it is common to see different birds and even deer.
I have been living here for 3 years. And the neighborhood is great unfortunately some of the neighbors are little rude at times. Management keeps adding rules to stop the excessive plumbing issues. My water has not worked properly since I have lived here. My hot and cold is on wrong sides and the temperature is hard to get just right for a shower. Either it's too hot or too cold. The only thing that has kept me here for so long was the convenience of stores and my college is right up the street. Now that the rent is going up and I don't feel this place is worth the price. I am looking to move soon.
We have lived here almost two years now and really enjoy it here. There are tons of amenities like the two outdoor pools, indoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, workout room, party room, dog park, walking paths, etc. The apartments are very nice and were spotless when we moved in. The maintenance staff is super quick if you have any issues (we needed our dishwasher replaced, a screen put in and our apartment flooded after a resident left a window open in the winter). They came immediately and were on top of everything. We had no worries about when something would get done and everyone is really friendly! All of our neighbors are friendly and even though we are looking to buy a house next year I will be sad to leave here! Feels like home.
The Islander Apartments are a wonderful place to call home. Not only are the apartments spacious, they are reasonably priced and include heat and water as well. The staff are friendly and helpful, and if something needs to be fixed, its done in a timely manor! They have many areas to keep yourself and kids active with outdoor /indoor pools, workout room, playground, tennis & basketball courts and a wonderful lake to stroll around or sit and watch the wildlife. And your fur babies are welcome as well. And to keep them happy they have a dog park and provide potty bag stations throughout the complex. Not to mention a great location right by the highway, close to shopping and dinning.Come check them out!!! Brandie W, Cleveland Oh.
After u move into your safe, clean, cozy apartment, where there are no bugs ever, and the maintainance is first rate, u can swim in either the heated outdoor pool, or the heated indoor pool with the hot tub and 2 sun decks, walk around the fountain pond with your dog to the doggie park, enjoying the beautiful sunset while the geese make their landing, or have a picnic near your patio or deck. For fun, you can play tennis, pickleball, sand volleyball, workout in exercise room, steam in the sauna, or play bingo. The Islander is a family community, not just an apartment building with a parking lot. Come sign a lease and call it home!
The location is great it is literally just minutes away from 71N and 71S. We came to this place because we were suddenly displaced and the leasing staff was very helpful. They contacted the owner on a weekend to see if they could offer us a promotional rate, and the owner did allow it. Also the free heat is amazing because the oven is gas as well. On the other side, the actual apartment is older than we thought it might be and really better suited for a single person. Some maintenance issues take a long time to address because the property is so huge. Our biggest issue is the space. It's a small space for more money than it's worth (we wouldn't have moved in at the regular rate).
This property is a huge collection of small buildings all arranged comfortably around a large pond. Amenities such as an exercise room, recreation room, indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi, tennis and basketball courts, playground, and a paved walking path around the water really make this apartment stand out. Well maintained and very close to freeway! It's definitely worth checking out!
