Newark’s dominant landmark and cultural hub is undeniably the University of Delaware campus, where the student body nearly matches the city’s population of permanent residents. Accordingly, many of the community’s resources are tailor-made for the collegiate crowd: an eclectic mix of restaurants and nightlife venues lines Main Street on the north side of campus, and affordable apartments are easy to find anywhere in town.
Despite the fact that it is primarily a college town, Newark maintains a diverse population with rental options available to suit any lifestyle. The sprawling nature preserves that border the northern end of the city provide gorgeous settings for hiking, camping, canoeing, and simply enjoying the great outdoors. Just thirty minutes from Wilmington, Newark also makes an excellent home base for commuters.

Property Ratings at Ivy Hall Apartments
Ivy Hall is a great little complex. There are locks on the building doors and cameras in the hallways as well as outside. Each apartment is very spacious! Some have hardwood floors, some carpet. Maintenance responds very quickly and issues are resolved fast by communicating with the office staff if any concerns. Parking is great. The office staff has concerns when U of D has football games and other events at the University because lots of people park at Ivy when they realize that there is no towing sometimes. The office staff will take action to be sure that residents have a space available to them at all times by issuing parking stickers and begin towing those who do not belong. The only ones who get upset at having parking stickers are those who have people living in their apartment illegally who also utilize a parking space. Parking in Newark is crazy and very expensive. Ivy Hall staff do their best to be sure parking of 2 spaces for a 2 bedroom and 1 space for a 1 bedroom is always available to residents.
I have lived at Ivy for 3 years. The first 2 years were great: it was a quiet, friendly atmosphere, and the office staff were very friendly and accommodating. However, after this year, I am planning on not signing my lease. After a safety issue occurring over the summer, the office said they would install extra cameras however nothing seems to have been done. The maintenance staff has not responded to our requests for maintenance multiple times, and now, on top of that, they are now requiring parking stickers (despite the fact that there's always numerous parking spots available). Although the rent is relatively cheap, I would suggest looking elsewhere for housing.
Ivy hall is perfect for families that are just starting. The residents are friendly, and they allow pets. The grounds are kept very clean and freshly cut. The room itself is spacious and comfortable. And the landlords are very nice.
