Property Ratings at Jackson Square
I currently live here and it is a nightmare. They will not respond to maintenance requests no matter how many times you call, go to the office, or submit requests online. I have lived in multiple units and they are all infested with German cockroaches. The package room gets broken into multiple times a year, year after year. Every year children's Christmas presents are stolen from the package room because management will not install a proper security door. Also, the community is not actually gated because the gate is always broken. Read the other reviews, they are all the same. Roaches, theft, poor maintenance, and bad management are what you get. I wouldn't recommend this place, it is overpriced and you will have roaches and if something breaks, they will never fix it.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. I stayed here for 2 years in 2 different units and all I can say is that the Maintenance requests go unanswered by staff members who take your reasonable complaints and concerns as a personal attack and become extremely unprofessional, they also have a pest control problem that they’re not doing anything to fix.
If luxury is really what you're looking for make a U-Turn. You won't find it here. Stuff is always breaking and I currently have mold on my ceiling. My "newly renovated" apartment still has tons of chipped paint which I told them about a year ago. If you have no other options it's not the worst you can do but if you can........Keep her moving.
I’ve never lived with roaches but I’m mostly annoyed that I’m living with them in LUXURY apartment where I’m spending so much money. To be spending so much money but you can’t look in any direction without seeing them is so disgusting and the pest control seems like it’s just water being sprayed to shut residents up. I have them in my light fixtures and I’ve even seen them crawling over packages in the package room. I ask for maintenance to fix things such as mold in bathrooms and balcony doors that don’t close or lock and I’m told that it’s just dirt that’s making these things occur, which means they’re not fixing anything just telling me to clean up. Never knew Clorox could fix locks. I call after 3 weeks of having a request in and I’m told that they are behind so I guess I’m just supposed to pay my luxury rent every month but accept that it’s a project experience. Management could absolutely do better with taking accountability with the issues in the complex ESPECIALLY the ROACHES. But I guess because they get to go home it’s not such a big deal to them.
Wow this is the best property I have been introduced to in a while. Everyone in the office is so nice and helpful. Can’t wait to move in!
Property Manager at Jackson Square, Responded To This Review
Hi thanks so much for leaving us a 5 star review, we are excited for you to move in and become part of our community! Kathryn M, Property Manager
Property manager is absolutely terrible. They don't enforce pool policies, gym policies, handicap parking policies. The "gated community" part is a joke; the gate works properly MAYBE once a week. There's an alarm that goes off in our building about 2-3 times a day; numerous complaints about it with no resolution. Earlier this year, it took them 2 weeks to fix our AC. We had a bogus $250 charge on our bill - took them 2 months and multiple phone calls/emails to get it resolved and removed. It's a joke over here; can't wait to move out.
I am a current resident, and have been here for almost 2 years now. I am renewing my lease again because we signed a contract with a super low rate and living here is super affordable for us. I've always wished current residents would provide their input whenever I was apartment hunting so I am hoping to return the favor. Pros: - Leasing office staff is very nice. The assistant manager is WONDERFUL. She is always professional and willing to assist. - Neighbors are super friendly. I never have to worry about safety. - Quiet at night - this is amazing. Everyone, for the most part, is courteous of each other. - Great location with easy access to 285 and downtown Decatur. - Attempts to make a more friendly environment by having theme nights or free breakfasts every so often. Cons: - The manager is rude. He also does not follow-up on promises. If he promises you anything, get it in writing. Then follow-up with the assistant manager. - Maintenance response/repair/follow-up is horrendous. They are understaffed and slow to respond as a result. Anytime we have an issue, it takes at least 3 follow-up calls to get someone in the apartment to help. - Gate is almost always broken and the repair time is slow. Also, call box at the gate is almost always broken and it impedes guests/residents from entering. - Older units do not get appliance upgrades. We're working with a stove from what I can only imagine is late 1990's. We've put in many requests for repairs because it doesn't work well. I'm not looking for top of the line but I am looking for a stove that will allow me to use the oven and more than 1 burner at a time. - Dog owners do not consistently pick up after pets. This could also be due to the limited poop stands around the complex. - Pool opens late in May. As of June, it's closed due to the pump breaking. No place is perfect, but it's decent here. Keeping all of the cons in mind? You should enjoy living here.
I've been living here for 1 year now and am very happy. Love the community feel here, location and everything the complex has to offer. I have used the gym, pool and package shipping lockers and only have good things to say. From what I've seen in just this past year, they are Very good about the overall upkeep here. The office staff and maintenance staff are very friendly and willing to help. It's really enjoyable living here.
It’s unfortunate the reviews for this complex are so outdated because none of these issues are issues any more (if they were issues at all). :) Leasing staff: AWESOME!! Everyone is so friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help in any situation. I toured several different apartment buildings before deciding on Jackson Square and their customer service was unmatched. Grounds: GREAT! The landscape is beautiful. In the short time I've been there so far, a grounds crew comes around once a week to do some sort of upkeep of the grounds, the community really does look so nice. Great landscaping team! And the pool!! You can tell is well maintained and the place to be on the weekends! Apartments: I was able to tour the two smaller one bedrooms as well as a two bedroom. All were well maintained and the model apartments were decorated very nice. For the square footage and price, you really can't beat it! One major highlight for me was the storage in the apartments. Walk in closet, storage on the patio, coat closet, pantry in the kitchen in addition to all the cabinets! Since I've moved in I have had two maintenance requests (ice maker & drain in the sink) both were tended to in 1-2 days and fixed! The other tenants all seem friendly. There is a mixture of families, singles, and couples. The noise is minimal and everyone seems courteous of others. Parking has never been an issue, plenty of parking for the tenants as well as our guests (which can't be said for all communities). Overall, this complex is exceptional! Definitely worth your time to tour and absolutely should be a place you consider living!
I was so excited to move OUT of here. (1) Upon moving in our AC was not working (we moved in the middle of summer). Called maintenance and they tried to convince me that the AC was fine instead of just fixing the problem. According to them it was just impossible to get the temp below 85 degrees, even though I live in the smallest one bedroom they have and it was not facing the sunlight... I talked to the manager at the time, and he said the same thing. Finally, after nearly a dozen trips by their own maintenance people and after threatening to get an independent AC guy out to check on the unit, the maintenance staff decided to actually try. Turns out that there was a GIANT METAL SHEET BLOCKING THE FAN. How this goes unnoticed after nearly a dozen times looking at the thing escapes me. Of course our electric bill was ridiculous that month, and mgmt did nothing to apologize or make up for it. (2) Maintenance response in general leaves much to be desired. I had to call and check up on requests multiple times before anyone will come out, and often it seems like they don't know what request I am talking about. Also, I feel like people try to convince me things are not problems more than they try to actually fix the problem. They definitely will try and weasel out of fixing things that should be addressed. For instance, one of our kitchen drawers was very difficult to open when we moved in. I noted the problem and asked that someone look at it. They guy just told me that if I pulled hard enough it would eventually open up... (3) The gate. Lord don't even get me started on that gate. Do not move here if a gated community is really something you are after, at least one of the gates is broken more often than not. (4) I lived here with my boyfriend, before signing the lease I asked if we could pay with two rent checks, which they assured me would be no problem. Then, after paying with multiple rent checks multiple times, we were suddenly told that we were no longer going to be able to do that. We were given no notice, and were told that it has always been their policy. I am pretty sure that they use the excuse "it is our policy to do X" just so that they don't have to deal with you if they don't want to. (5) Don't let the recent paint job fool you - everything is very cheaply built and constantly breaking. I feel like half the dryers were almost always out of service.
So much to say about Jackson Square! If you love bugs, this is the complex for you. Cockroaches were a constant, probably because they failed to seal the crack between the floor and our apartment door despite asking for it 5 times over 3 months. We had hornets in the house one day. When we investigated those, it turns out the windows were never sealed, so there was a 1 inch gap between the top and bottom portions. We could literally pour water on the closed window from the inside of the apartment and watch it pour through to the sidewalk outside. One day we came home to a trail of ants crawling from one bathroom through a bedroom all the way to the kitchen. Don't worry, though, because the front desk lady is clearly an entomologist. She told us "ants don't come from behind sinks and don't crawl that far." After we offered to pull our phones out to show her photos, she said she couldn't get an exterminator out for 5 days. Along with the bugs, you can expect massive electricity bills because of terrible insulation. I mean, what can you do when there is literal space where you can see daylight under your door and the windows have inch gaps in them. Oh, and if crime is your thing, Jackson Square is the place for you! We literally had monthly emails from the front office telling us crimes had been committed in the complex. My roommate's girlfriend had her car broken into and rummaged through. It's probably because the front gate is broken and stuck open literally 95% of the time. The workout room sucks, with half the machines broken pretty much always. The pins for the weight machines go missing all the time. I really hope they've removed the single weight bench that wobbled when you sat down on it because we were all convinced someone would get killed by it. The washers and dryers often have cigarette butts in them. The pool opens weeks later than those of surrounding complexes and is often closed for inexplicable reasons. They do landscaping at random times, so we were often woken up early in the morning by lawn equipment on weekends. If that didn't wake you up, the neighborhood backs up to the farmer's market, which has been doing construction for months. It definitely will. It really is that terrible. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this complex at all costs.
My fiance and I toured a one bedroom with Jason, and everything was beautiful. The community is lovely, the space was classy and simple, and especially the bathroom was just amazing. Jason was so friendly and funny and just a wonderful person to have a conversation with. The only reason we did not move in is that it was just out of our budget. If we made a little more, we would absolutely have moved in asap. Highly recommend touring for yourself!
The size of these apartments are great for the price and i love the roommate set up. I have a huge island in my kitchen that i love. The only complaint i have every had is that is seems that the walls are made of paper so you can hear a lot of things that maybe you would prefer not too. Over all i love the management and they are doing some great renovations right now.
