Property Ratings at Jefferson at Marina del Rey
My application experience with Jefferson at Marina was incredibly disheartening. Despite submitting all required documents and meeting their criteria, my application was unexpectedly denied. The lack of clarity or reason provided for the denial was frustrating and left me feeling unfairly treated. This experience has unfortunately tarnished my perception of Jefferson at Marina's leasing process. I would caution others to approach their application process with caution and seek clearer communication before making any commitments.

Hello there, We extend our sincere apologies for any discontent you may have encountered during the application process. Transparency is a core value for us and we strive to maintain this through every phase of the leasing journey. Our screening process includes a thorough review of credit and rental history, a criminal background check, and income information to ensure a comprehensive assessment of each applicant. More details on the specific qualification requirements can be found on the FAQ tab on our website. We appreciate your interest in our community and thank you for sharing your experience with us! Kind Regards, Callie, WeCare@udr.com
I moved into the complex and without any heads up prior to me signing in the next month they closed down the pool and gym for the entirety of my year lease. They say you can go to the neighboor buildings gym/pool but that is almost a mile away and you have to walk on Lincoln past a bunch of homeless to get to it (not at all what I signed for when I was thinking pool/gym in my complex) and that gym is 75 degrees with no drinking water. During this time they also have been building a small dog park for over 6 months outside my window so that included construction noise (sawing brick and metal) that entire time). This is all on top of constant fire alarms, homeless people breaking in, homeless people actually breaking in to live and SHOOT/MURDER each other and just trash bags everywhere. … now they are raising rent….. simply put - LOOK ELSEWHERE!
Property Manager at Jefferson at Marina del Rey, Responded To This Review
Hello, We appreciate you providing our team with your feedback, and we are sorry to hear you have had a negative experience. Although we understand your frustration with our ongoing construction project, we do disclose this information to our residents at the time the lease addendum is signed. Our residents sign a Construction/Renovation Addendum that details these are significant renovations and that this project may result in inconveniences related to noise, the presence of machinery and workmen, and that the construction schedule may change as the project progresses and this scheduling is unfortunately out of our team's control. Fire alarms are a critical safety feature in our community, and their purpose is to ensure the well-being of our residents. We understand the disruption and alarm they can cause, particularly when they occur at odd hours. We apologize for any stress this may have caused you. Please be assured that our team treats each occurrence of fire alarms with the utmost importance. We understand the impact it can have on your daily routine and strive to minimize the disturbance as much as possible. We continuously work to improve our security protocols and maintain an open line of communication with local authorities to address any concerns promptly. Our team is more than happy to assist with all questions and concerns throughout your residency and we encourage you to reach out so we may promptly address your concerns. Kind Regards, Callie
This place is terrible save yourself the trouble and rent anywhere but here. This was the worse property I have ever stayed at. They will try every way to squeeze money out of you. Even if it is wrongfully charging you with a late payment so they can get the extra $100 late fee and then sending a note to your door a day later that you must pay the $100 or they will evict you. Then to top it off if you break your lease and someone is moving in your place so they actually don't lose any rent they will file a claim against you saying they loss rent which is untrue. Worse property they do not care about the people living there just want your money.
Property Manager at Jefferson at Marina del Rey, Responded To This Review
Thank you for the review! We are sorry you have not been happy with your time in the community! We are governed by strict rules and regulations that require we treat all residents fairly and equally. We encourage everyone to thoroughly review their lease prior to signing to familiarize themselves with our policies and procedures. Rent payments are considered late anytime after the 1st day of the month. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Kind regards, Callie, WeCare@udr.com
1) This place has a lot of nice photos on their website, but the rates you pay are not worth it. The pool and gym are nice, but super outdated. The gym's equipment is old/broken and they don't have full sets of weights 2) The rent is astronomical for the value. The units have no natural light. You can get much better value elsewhere. There is a lack of security and the garage gates break all of the time. I've seen countless number of homeless people in the garage. Also there was a shooting on the top floor of the building. Apparently a resident was renting out their unit on Airbnb. The people staying in it setup some kind of meet on the top floor of the garage, it went poorly and we hear gun shots. The property never explained what happened. To this day we still DO NOT HAVE CAMERAS INSTALLED ANYWHERE ON PROPERTY. For what they charge for rent you think they would install cameras in a 6 story garage. I've even have had people come off the street, to my door to solicit a "charity" fund. It's not safe at all. Also, if you are not on the top floor you will hear everything your neighbors are doing. This isn't just me, I actually heard an argument from our neighbors across the courtyard screaming at their upstairs neighbor because of how loud they were. 3) rent/utilities: You are charged $40 a month for parking (a lot of residence actually skip this and park in other spots because jefferson doesn't actually tow). I know this because there was a person who continually parked in our spot and the building never did anything about it. Your water and trash fees are about 40 dollars a month. Trash is expensive and the trash rooms are disgusting (I will say that the staff does a great job at cleaning it up) but it gets backed up and the cockroaches come out Renewal: again this is UDR, so they will jump your rent after 1 year. They are also sly about it because they tell you 15 days before you need to make a decision ( I know if you reading this and thinking, why didn't you read your lease, you are right). But make sure you do! UDR tells you your rent increases and if you don't accept this great "offer" you need to tell them 60 days before your move out (CA law is 30 days). Otherwise they increase about 10%. We were trying to get ahold of our personal renewal specialist who ghosted us on a call and then didn't get back to us until a few days right before our renewal deadline.
this apartment building is nice we just have a big problem with outside locals stealing bikes and bike parts from the bike racks, rent control needs to be set in place for marina del rey our rent now is 2,400 if we go month to month it jumps to $8,000 now that's not cool.
For my family… this was the perfect place for us to move. With 3 kids and 2 dogs, the space is perfect and the amenities ( in the building suit our needs. Many weekends you will find us Barbecuing at the pool if we are no surfing down at the beach. We are within walking distance of the beach, Marina, many shops, and Abbot Kinney. We are also close to the 90 freeway which is great doe the commute. I feel super safe in the building as well and the staff is incredibly helpful! We all love living here and plan to renew our lease!
I'll be honest, it's REALLY expensive to live in this area now, even compared to two years ago, so the "outrageous" rent, is actually pretty good, but...when rent goes up by 20% at lease renewal time, it shows that the compant cares about one thig...the bottom dollar, and the standard amenities don't seem worth it anymore. There is a small pool with far too few chairs and loungers, but is nice on a less busy day. Beautiful grounds that dog owners love. BIG apartments; this is the major selling point here. The square footage is 200-400 square feet more when comparing the same price in the area. Even when looking at the other properties owned by UdR, these places seem huge. I have never had an issue with a neighbor; everybody seems friendly. Just remember that the "deal" you get upon lease signing will not be there when you renew, so the average amenities will seem overpriced year two and beyond.
I have lived at the Jefferson for nearly 7 years. I have seen it all here: homeless people on my roof or sleeping in front of my door, numerous thefts, fire alarms that ring all night long, managers that come and go every 3-6 months, fecal matter in the pool, but I put up with it all these years because it was the cheapest place in the area. This year, myself and all of my neighbors are getting 500-700 increase in our rent. Avoid this place at all costs. You can do better with your money.
Have been renting at the Jefferson Marina for the past 5 years and love it. The staff, amenities, location to the Marina, beach, restaurants, night life and the upgraded luxury apartment features are awesome.
