Located about two miles from Historic Downtown Jersey City and ten miles from Manhattan, Journal Square is a centrally-located commercial and residential neighborhood that keeps on growing. Access to major highways and the PATH train as well as lower rent prices continue to attract residents from Manhattan and Brooklyn. Apartments in Journal Square are found in great pre-war buildings, walk-ups, and private houses.
If you choose to rent in Journal Square, you will have the chance to catch a performance at the Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre, take Fido to run around at Hamilton Park, peruse the shops at Newport Centre, and visit Liberty State Park to savor waterfront views of Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island.

JSQ is an absolute nice place to stay! The gym is perfect, equipped with top-notch facilities for a fantastic workout experience. Sound insulation is impressive, ensuring peaceful living. Moreover, the maintenance crew is efficient and professional, promptly attending to any concerns. Especially the building located right next to Path station, living here is great, combining urban chic with ultimate comfort.
Pros: 1. the building is branding new 2. front desk staff are friendly and helpful 3. relative low price Cons: 1. maintenance is NOT 7/24. If your window doesn't close at a chilly night, your AC fails to cool the room down in summer, your hot water is cut off in winter, you better pray it's still in working hours. Otherwise, I will pray for you.
Cheaply made apartments, everything is stained and ruined easily from the floors to the windowsills to the cabinets and kitchen appliances. Absolutely nothing in the surrounding area - it's literally just a commuter hub with busses and the PATH. Unsafe area and not great to walk around at night. Lived here for two years and we've been dealing with loud construction that wakes us up every morning from day 1 - even though the leasing agent told us we wouldn't hear any construction. Useless having doormen as well and a mail room because they constantly refuse packages and make you wait hours to pick up your packages - would rather not deal with doormen at all and just get my packages myself. Also, zero flexibility or empathy with rent costs during a pandemic, but easily found out through the building website that they were renting the same size and even larger apartments than mine for MUCH less for new renters. Would never recommend this building or area to anyone. Look in downtown Jersey City instead.
