At the heart of Missouri, Columbia is truly one of America’s greatest college towns. The University of Missouri sits right at the center of the city, and generally serves as the cultural hub for the wider community. Locals, whether connected directly to the university or not, regularly visit campus for sporting events, concerts, gallery exhibitions, lectures, and more. Just north of campus, Downtown Columbia features a thriving mix of coffee shops, restaurants, nightclubs, taverns, and performance venues, largely catering to the huge numbers of students from Mizzou, as well as the smaller Stephens College and Columbia College.
Of course, the community extends well beyond the collegiate environment at the city center. The University of Missouri Health Care system is the second-biggest employer in town, so the community of healthcare professionals in town is quite extensive. The cost of living is quite affordable, and there are numerous apartments and rental homes to fit any budget.

Property Ratings at Katy Place Apartments
We’ve absolutely loved our stay at Katy Place - have been renting here for almost 3 year now. The facilities are clean, the office staff is courteous, and the apartments are comfortable. We live on a top floor so noise has never been a problem, and parking is very abundant so we’ve never had to park more than three spaces away from our building’s entryway. Maintenance responses have always been quick. Also, having access to the Katy Trail is so convenient and refreshing!
If you're looking for the best located apartment complex in town, Katy Place is the one for you. You're right around the corner from Schnucks, Dunn Bros, and the movie theater. The MKT is just down the hill. You're equidistant between two Walmarts and Hy-Vee (while not next door, you've at least got more selection). The apartments aren't bad either. The management has done a good job of keeping mine updated. When I moved in, there was fresh paint on the walls, and carpet and linoleum on the floors. My appliances were replaced after my first year. The walls are decently thick, so you don't have to worry a whole lot about hearing your neighbors. Speaking of which, the no-undergraduate policy keeps the entire community fairly quiet. Overall, I've enjoyed my time at Katy Place and really have felt at home. My only compliant would be the management. They do well in responding to maintenance issues, which is great. However, they will not work with you if you want to terminate your lease early. Your options are to pay a buyout fee, equal to three months' rent (insane when you consider how likely it is that they'll be able to fill the unit within 1 month), or find someone to move in, have them live with you as a roommate for some undetermined amount of time, then move out. Awkward. Regarding notices, management is very good with sending emails. However, when the pool was closed because the city found a glass bottle in the pool area, management's emails to the residents to notify them that the pool would be closed so it could be drained, cleaned, and filled (per the city's requirements) read less like a notification to the residents, and more like a warning to a bunch of kids saying "don't do this again!" Overall though, it's a good place to live. Just not great. I think you'll like it here.
