At the point where the Monongahela River and the Allegheny River meet to form the Ohio River rests downtown Pittsburgh, the heartbeat of the city. The terrain, consisting of rivers, steep hills, and a distinct combination of numerous bridges make this a naturally scenic city. Downtown Pittsburgh is a lively area filled with shops, restaurants, museums, and theaters. It is also home to Point Park University and Point State Park, a National Historic Landmark as the location of Fort Duquesne, the Fort Pitt Museum, and the Fort Pitt Blockhouse (built in 1764).
The unique design of downtown Pittsburgh offers residents pocket-like neighborhoods that display its architectural heritage and steel city legacy. A variety of dining and entertainment options line the streets below mid to high rise offices and residential towers. No matter what time of the day or night, you can find something to do in this friendly sports-oriented city.

Property Ratings at Kaufmanns
The Kaufmann’s Grand is the place to be! The amenities are great; free fancy coffee in the morning, dog park, music room, 24 hour concierge, resident parties and activities, rooftop pool, Target in the basement… what more could you ask for? Being able to relax on the rooftop after work gives you a little break from the hustle and bustle of downtown. It’s perfection. Jake, Ryan, Christopher, Kimberly, and especially Quinn. They take care of me, they love my dog. What more could you want?!

This is the best apartment building I’ve toured and been to in Pittsburgh. Concierge like Jake always welcomes you in and take his time to have a chat with you and ask about your day. The amount of events they host here at Kaufmann’s you won’t find it else where, the leasing office is full of lively and the friendliest people. Cannot complain about a thing being a resident here

Big issues at this property . I wold not recommend. No one gets back to you. They have an excuse for everything. They even refuse to fix things that do not work in the apartment such as hot water.. Do yourself a favor don’t move here

Whatever happened before Greystar purchased the building, rest assured, it has been taken care of. All of the amenities have been finished, and the place is fabulous, like no other. I can’t believe that anyone looking in Pittsburgh, wouldn’t want to live at The Kaufmann building. The amenities are second to none, the concierge (James) is awesome, Cierra, our leasing agent, is incredible! Great location, and the Target store just opened recently, IN THE BUILDING! Seriously, I’ll never leave…

Kaufmanns grand aoartments are a great place to live in the downtown area. Everything is at your fingertips!

Hi, we are very happy we could provide you with a positive experience!
Management is very kind, with the exception of 1 leasing agent who has made me feel unwelcome with her rude comment about my dog. I’d like to give a shoutout to Cierra for being so communicative upon my move in. It was stressful moving from another state, into an apartment I’d never physically seen, but Cierra made it as stress free as possible! Thomas from maintenance is also incredibly communicative and kind!

Hi, we really appreciate your positive review! Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything additional we can do for you.
I've only been here a few weeks and it already feels like home. Staff personnel are friendly, approachable, and very helpful. The apartments are updated, feel spacious, and have lots of light. I couldn't speak more highly of the apartment building or the living environment it offers.

Only been here almost 3 months now. Our windows leak air and it’s 20 degrees outside. The amenities are nice but they do not maintain them. You cannot skate on the fake ice upstairs and the golf simulator never works. If I wasn’t paying so much I wouldn’t care. But I’m paying so much to be cold and miserable. Prob won’t renew unless they change.

Hello, we are disappointed to see your low star rating. If you could provide more information to us, we would be more than happy to try and make this situation better. Please stop in the leasing office so we can address your concerns.
Kaufmanns has significant maintenance and security issues. Many tenants have serious problems with their apartments. Additionally construction is still in process and there is a lot of noise, debris, and frustration.

Hi , Thank you for your comment and for bringing this to our attention. Our apologies for the less than enjoyable experience. Please send us a private message with your concerns and information so we can look into this further.
I have lived at Kaufmanns Grand since last June. Since that time there have been numerous issues that I have tried to resolve with maintenance/management. Because of the substantial issues in my apartment I had to live in a hotel (my expense) for almost a month. Ceilings leaks, excessive construction noise... every day including Sunday morning after Christmas at 7:00 AM. I have open maintenance items from June about holes in the floor, rain leaking into the apartment, and closet doors falling off of the hinges. I actually repaired the HVAC unit on our floor so that we could have heat. On top of all of this, there are significant security issues in the building. People that should not have access to the building wandering in the hallways and looking in windows/knocking on doors. This is the worst place I have lived ever. I have tried and tried to work with management. No results. They have had numerous fire/city/county code violations. Although they spent the money to install an ice skating rink, that expense and effort should have been put toward fixing the apartments/fixing the building. I have been exceptionally patient and professional. I've had it.

The building is excellent, but it is managed horribly. The work orders are not handled in an orderly fashion and I do not trust the competency levels of those in charge. The concierges are all polite and professional at least.

I moved in July 29th into an apartment that didn't have working automatic blinds. Management must not have made sure everything functioned correctly in my apartment. As of today, August 20th my blinds still have not been fixed and I have been getting the runaround from management in regards to my issue being resolved. There is a constant lack of communication and I always have to follow up when something isn't done when it was suppose to be. They do not bother to update you or at the very least contact you when they can't resolve your issues within the time frame that they were supposed to. There is a lot of back and forth and no one seems to be on the same page. I originally picked this place because of great location, amenities, and good customer service I received throughout my application and move in process but now my views have since changed. If you are considering this place beware that the service you get when they want you as a resident versus the service you get as a resident are far different and not worth the trouble.

Kaufmanns Grand is a phenomenal in the works community. Weve been extremely pleased with the building and management, and are looking forward to the finished product. The construction teams are friendly and working quickly to complete the project. They take every precaution to ensure the building is clean and livable. Best renting option in the city! The proximity to entertainment areas cannot be matched and the fit and finish of the apartments are second to none!
Property Manager at Kaufmanns, Responded To This Review
Thank you for the positive review! We agree the location, amenities and apartment homes really set Kaufmann's apart. We look forward to providing continued best in class experiences! -Your Kaufmann's Management Team
First of all, I moved to the city to be close to work. The location is central to the city and walkable. The management changed and has improved slightly over CORE. However, there are many issues still with the property and apartments. Premium rent rates are unjustified with the current conditions. Amenities that were delivered after almost a year of waiting are an absolute joke. We were told to wait for amenities coming soon, and looked forward to those. Very little progress has been made and only one amenity has been delivered. This is being advertised as a “dog park” on instagram. Unfortunately, trying to fool new residents won’t work when they tour and see a 10x10 turf patch on the roof. That’s if they can even reach the roof with one working elevator stuck between floors 10 and 12 constantly. At least the stairs are available, if you prefer inhaling construction for 8-12 floors dust over waiting. Prioritizing the lobby reconstruction over amenities or the elevator is just one example of a band-aid solution for an apartment with more pressing issues. The work is being allocated to these cosmetic fixes, but it’s all lipstick on a pig. As for the apartments, the build quality of fixtures is cheap and covered up by “high tech” shades and an old ipad to control your “smart” apartments. This was never set up for my apartment so it’s useless to me, and the blinds began to stop working 5 days into moving until all were stuck in position a few months later. There are no fans or airflow measures taken in bathrooms. I’m unsure of the legality here, but be sure to shower with all doors wide open or you’ll get mold like me, there’s no way to stop it but giving up privacy. I haven’t seen rodents personally but can believe the other residents reporting them with the amount of dust, dirt, and construction waste being left in common areas, hallways, and elevators for weeks. There are many alternatives close by to downtown and in downtown that will deliver much better value and quality of life. Look elsewhere and do not lease here unless you absolutely must live on 5th ave. No amount of historical value, decorative window displays, or lobby redesigns will amount to making this an appealing place to live. Here’s to hoping for a working elevator or amenities in 2021, waiting through 2020 was enough for me.

Moving to town to walk to work. Living in an iconic building..these are some perks! Old and grande..sort of like me. I like the washer and dryer. Eclectic age range which was a huge draw as I am not ready for a retirement home! College students, worker bees or those who love city lights..there is something for everyone. Holiday decorations, windows and trees..with a beautiful winter wonderland on the projection screen. Toy drop box makes caring for others part of home. Some seek grand gestures of progress. I look at the small ones that make a building a home. The staff have always made me feel at home. The new staff have put in extra effort this holiday season. The Kaufmann building is a grande building. Those who invested gave her a new lease on life. Development takes time. I took a leap of faith as did everyone who invested, moved in and even those who moved on. Come take a look. Maybe you can call Kaufmann's home soon. Dog friendly and people are friendly too! Look for the clock on the corner and check out the retro holiday windows near the residence entrance . This neighborhood is close to Mr.Roger's heart. And Frank Lloyd Wright had a part to play in its history. I am glad to be home for the holidays here at Kaufmann's! I like the history history of the building and being part its future.

Although Kaufmann’s is very much a work in progress, there are exciting signs of things to come. Communication and responsiveness have improved exponentially under Greystar management. Steps are underway to complete elevators, interior parking, amenities and retail space. My apartment has always been spectacular with a roomy layout, very nice kitchen, beautiful bathrooms, large windows and smart home features. I have never had a rodent or water problem, although some residents have in the past. If you move here, you need to be patient, but the mismanagement of the past is no longer an issue. One comment on the amenities listed on apartments.com, there currently are no grills as we still don’t have roof access. I will be thrilled when we do get grills and an outdoor space on the roof. In the meantime, it’s a very friendly and open community looking forward to the future.

Absolutely horrendous management. Elevators have been out for days with management not responding. There are rodent issues. None of the amenities have been completed and no work has been done in almost a year. The owner is trying to sell the building, so he refuses to meet with the tenants. The majority of people have moved out. Don’t believe a word they said, and do your research on this place. It is not remotely luxury. Core is terrible.

We had great hopes for our luxury apartment at Kaufmann’s Grand on Fifth (KGOF). We signed a contract early and patiently waited for enough progress to be made on the building to enable us to move in. Our move in date was rescheduled more than 10 times. This required us to scramble and find some temporary living space and pay high short-term leasing rates while waiting. Once we moved into the KGOF building, it was immediately apparent there were issues with the condition of the building and the quality of work being done. The only elevator was a single freight elevator that needed to be run by a KGOF employee. There were 3 elevators designated for resident use, but it took several months before 1 of them was certified for use. Neither this elevator nor the freight elevator was reliable, and on several occasions the only option was to use the stairs. Not convenient when you live on the tenth floor. We lasted approx. 8 months at KGOF before breaking our lease and moving out. All of the amenities promised online and in their marketing materials do not exist. No rooftop pool or usable space, no theater, golf simulator, Zen room, or interactive gym. They installed some equipment in the gym, but the roof leaked, and the gym smelled like mildew. And a non-working massage chair was placed in the hall for a month and then moved to the ‘Zen room’ with other miscellaneous construction material. Never finished or working. In building parking does not exist and the nearest garage is inconvenient and adds a safety risk to any trip. Building issues were so numerous I cannot describe them all here, but here’s an overview: Mice – You can hear them running in the walls, across the ceiling, and scratching behind the cabinets. Electrical – Bedroom ceiling fan switch can also turn on the bathroom light (sometimes). General construction – Cracked floor tiles, missing cabinet trim, grout and paint on everything, drywall and paint poorly done and patches visible Windows – installed incorrectly and large gaps allowing air and noise into the apartment Fire Alarms – Large amount of dust from construction has fouled the sensors and the alarms randomly go off and are not reliable Water damage – water leaks from the floor above and cause damage in our apartment. Fire hazard as water leaked into the electrical control panel. Poorly done repairs by construction/handyman crew. Carpet mildew smell. Not sure how this development ever received a Certificate of Occupancy.

As a former resident, due to unlivable and unsanitary conditions, we were left with no choice but to vacate Kaufmann's Grand on Fifth. I had reasonable expectations about living in an environment that was still under construction and have lived through major renovations at other homes in the past. The ongoing construction is not the reason for our departure but the unsanitary pest conditions, general overall poor conditions of the facility, and safety concerns forced us to make this decision. An online maintenance service portal does not exist for logging, tracking, and reporting maintenance requests so this lacks maintenance tracking which also prevents analysis and identification of trending issues. No improvement feedback mechanism exists, and our personal time was consumed with reporting issues and coordinating action and repairs. There was major water in our apartment and the crown molding fell completely down, we experienced major electrical problems, cracked tiles, drawers falling apart, but most importantly rodents in the walls and throughout the entire building which was unsanitary. The Corporate Office made the decision to unlock the front doors. The leasing office and concierge desk are not staffed, trained, or equipped to provide security. Immediately inside the doors there is access to stairwell D enabling someone from the street to enter the building and wander the stairwells and hallways without ever entering the lobby or being seen. With the constant state of construction and maintenance occurring, all stairwell doors are not secured. The circumstances put all of the residents and staff at risk, since there is no physical security buffer for the building. There is one working elevator for all residents and all Airbnb guests on the 12th floor. When we were scheduled to move, we were told the freight elevator was not running so this forced us to use the single working elevator while walking a block and half to an alley where the U Haul truck was parked so it could be loaded. What Kaufmanns Grand on Fifth offers is major flooding problems, electrical problems, windows improperly installed, safety issues, and rodents living within the walls and in many of the surrounding areas of the resident living. There is not enough room to go into detail of all the problems we had while living at Kaufmann's Grand on Fifth. This historic project could have been a beautiful masterpiece but instead has been turned into a sight for sore eyes.

The apartments are very nice, they do have variety in floor plans and very cool unique features. I was excited about living there until I was treated literally like nothing. Very inconsiderate unreliable management, they honestly don't care about finding you a home, or you as a person they just want to get everything leased without even thinking about their potential residents. very sad and disappointed about this because where you choose to live its a pretty big deal, its more than just having an amazon Alexa installed in your apartment. For this company to say its about giving their residents an experience, an experience should be beyond having a "smart apartment" because we are not robots we are humans and the way we are treat by the people that manage the building we live in is more important than that just FYI. Over all I had a poor experience with their leasing staff twice (The first time the leasing manager was more focused on the resident moving in than me a potential new resident, she rushed me through my first visit), extremely poor customer service, poor communication skills, very rude and unprofessional.
