Property Ratings at Kenilworth Inn Apartments
I have lived here many years, and I love it!! Residents love living in a beautiful, historic building where unique high-end apartments have gorgeous hardwood floors, extremely friendly management, and inspiring residents. The things that this building offers attracts a discerning, respectful group of neighbors. Unlike the more cookie cutter complexes with swimming pools, carwashes, and the like, Kenilworth Inn offers history, charm, and the perfect location. The grounds are well manicured, but uncluttered by so called "amenities" that would add extra noise and hurt the gorgeous aesthetics of this stunning propery. My hope is to live here for the foreseeable future!! Grab a glass of wine or a cup of tea and join our weekly gatherings on the porch or in the spacious lobby. I have made lifelong friends who appreciate the charm that this gem has to offer, and I hope you will, too!!
I absolutely agree with the lovely review above. There is not much more that I would add. I have been a homeowner for many years in Boulder, Colorado, and Bainbridge Island, Washington, and most recently an expatriate in Hong Kong. Though I've lived in some of the most sought out communities, coming to Asheville and finding my home in the Kenilworth Aptartments is a complete joy, and one of my favorite places to live! The individual who so thoroughly and positively reviewed our complex above most recently, says it all. I love the history, the old and lovingly"worn" aspects (not for everyone..do not come if you don't appreciate a 100 year old building and all that comes with a historical building! "Ghosts"? and all!). I love the staff, my wonderful high ceilings, bay windows and original bathroom fixtures), the grand old entrance and front porch with rocking chairs..the wild turkeys and occasional bear.. lovely grounds and interesting array of neighbors. Autumn, Sierra our onsite management team, and Bob and Andy, our maintenance crew..do such a fantastic job of careing and creating a safe, and warm living environment. I hope to be here for a very long while!!!!
In writing this review, I had to be careful in choosing my words carefully so as to not appear to exaggerate, even though a lesser, more toned-down review would be unjust to such an exquisite property and management staff. I've been a tenant at Kenilworth Inn Apartments for over 3 years. I've been a tenant in an amazing, classy, high-end one bedroom apartment boasting almost 1500sq of hard wood floors, great big windows, gas heating, central air and a amazing stylish kitchen with granite tops and high ceiling. The building itself is solid and historic, and a tenant feels secure inside no matter what the weather is outside. Everything about this building and the living it affords provides the residents with classic stylish living. The apartments are reasonably priced for the great, responsive maintenance and the degree of inherent luxury that can be experienced by the residents at Kenilworth. The building is located on a hill with stunning views and never any fear of flooding or subsidence in the most extreme weather conditions. The onsite management team are one of the absolute best features of Kenilworth Inn Apartments. It is comprised of two truly amazing, polite and problem solving professionals, who go out of their way to ensure that the residents are comfortable and have the best possible experience in Asheville living, anyone can have. They organize events, ranging from Christmas parties to historical anniversaries galas, but not limited to artistic events and yard sales. They work tirelessly to accommodate all the residential needs of the tenants and truly care about the comfort and safety of each individual tenant and resident pets. Invariably, all maintenance is timely, effective and efficient, by conducting desired maintenance while causing the least disruption possible to the tenants. It should be noted that the whole building is well maintained and clean at all times. Lastly, it should be noted, that the safety standards are always adhered to, and the building is generally located in the safest and most well maintained areas by the city of Asheville, the Historic Biltmore district. Again, I've strived to provide factual information regarding Kenilworth Inn Apartments, in an understated fashion in order to facilitate the credibility of my review. My experience at Kenilworth Inn apartments, can be singularly described as Amazing Luxury Living at an Amazing Luxury Historic Apartment Building!
[Not sure why my earlier review disappeared] Agree with the poster below, the KI is getting way too expensive. Used to be a gem, with a few odd characteristics, but recently it is simply charging too much. Yes, it has history. But it also has poor HVAC, single pane windows that let in too much cold air, inefficient heating systems (some spend up to $400 a month on electricity!). As for amenities, the Cyber Cafe is nothing more than a router in the lobby and a Kuerig coffee maker. No pool, fitness center, dog park, playground, biz center. Used to have four grills and picnic tables, now just one grill. And as you can see from the available listings above, rents are over $1.50 a square foot. You can rent storage for $70 to $150, a garage for $170. Used to be there were seldom any openings. Now, long term residents are being forced out. That explains why you will see so many listings. But not the real floor plans. Go figure. Nice...if you can afford it. Sad that so many long timers can't.
The Kenilworth Inn used to be a great, quirky complex-- and it still is all that-- but WOW have the rents increased in the past couple years. First, there have been two management changes, with former staff shown the door, and rents increased while services disappeared or took months to return. Worst are the rent increases, ranging from 10-20%, with studios (500 sq feet) @ $1000, one BR up to $1450. Plus pet fees are up 200%, new storage spaces (optional) another $70. Perhaps the most appalling was the notice stuck in each door (the latests management took over three months to implement an email system). It announced that for ONLY $150 extra a month, you could have a stainless steel appliance package-- never mind that the same package could be purchased at Best Buy for $1800, and it would then be yours to keep. Such a deal. At last report, NO current tenants accepted the offer. So, if you have lots of money to burn and can put up with poor HVAC, single pane windows that leak like sieves, and rents that will go up, up, up, take a good long look. But there must be a good reason that so many current tenants are reluctantly moving out. You decide. Choose wisely.
The apartment facility I live in is a historic building that has a very interesting history ranging from being a hotel at its conception, living through a fire that destroyed some of the building, to being a VA Hospital and Rehab during World Wars I and II and becoming a public then private mental institution before becoming a building of over 100 apartments. The stone building has excellent management and is well kept both inside and outside. There is ample parking for residents and guests. This beautiful stone building is centrally located to down town, a hospital, two interstate highways, bus routes, shopping and to the Biltmore Estate, all within a five or ten minutes drive. My apartment is a lovely 1780 sq ft setting of 3 large rooms consisting of two bedrooms and a large open area containing the kitchen, dining area and living room area. The ceilings are 12 ft high and all three large rooms each have a wall of windows which give each room a large sense of openness and which look out on trees and mountains. . There are two and a half bathrooms which are fairly roomy and contain a combined tub and shower and have room for a medium sized storage shelf or cabinet. The closets are large and roomy and can contain a lot of clothing and accessories. The only reason I do not yet rate this as exceptional is that they are still in process of upgrading systems in the apartment which has taken a bit of time and inconvenience. But that will soon be over.
