Boasting the picturesque Punchbowl tuff cone and the Tantalus Lookout Puu Ualakaa State Park, Makiki-Lower Punchbowl-Tantalus is a scenic neighborhood about three miles northeast of Downtown Honolulu. Makiki houses a close-knit community that celebrates and honors Hawaiian culture, but the neighborhood is also a hotspot for tourism, especially with its proximity to Waialae-Kahala and Ala Moana-Kakaako, two popular neighborhoods and commercial hubs. The neighborhood consists predominantly of endearing older homes, small apartment buildings full of charm, and private abodes. Locals love the nearby amenities and access to great schools, parks, a library, a marketplace, and a community center. Residents also enjoy hiking trails and the gorgeous, year-round, sunny weather, shaping their own piece of paradise.

Property Ratings at Kewalo Apartments
It’s been a terrible experience. It’s expensive. Management doesn’t not uphold rental agreements. They will be very good at call backs and scheduling you to see the place, but once you sign on the dotted line, they don’t care! Every single month there has been issues with plumbing —the drains are ALWAYS clogged, yet me and my significant other don’t have hair on our heads. It is always a struggle to get maintenance to come handle it. If you put in a request to get something fixed, you will wait about 10 days to hear back. Parking here is trash. You are given a key fob to get into the garage (It’s literally impossible to get in without it) and given an assigned space, but if you don’t put the parking tag in the windshield, they will tow your car. It’s been terrible. I hate it here.
Ive been live here for 2year. Dont ever rent this place because alot of time of the week cop showing for violations and blah blah blah. And management is horrible they try to charge you ridiculous amount of money out of no where and if you say something. Management said its our system problem sorry mistake ! Ive been there for 2years with my pup ive been through 3mamager didnt have any problem but they are saying that they are now allowing my dog all of sudden so either you give up pup or move out. I can say more and more but this place is falling a part. With that amount of money you can get way better place. Dont get fool.
The property was everything I expected and more. Neighbors are nice which is good. The property manager is super helpful and was always available to help with whatever questions I had. Being a pet friendly place was also a plus. I would definitely recommend to anybody looking for a nice and clean, quiet place.
I’m so sad I have to leave this apartment I’m PCSing back to the states and I have to say it was one of the best apartments I have had. The location was great it is lots to do in the area so I never felt board. Altogether smaller inside but newly remodeled and my favorite part was the kitchen because I love to cook. Most times is hard to have a good relationship with management but The staff was great always friendly and took care of any needs I had right away. If I ever come back to Hawaii I would definitely try and rent at Kewalo again. Thanks Kewalo for a true Hawaiian experience!
I was nervous about living here because of the ratings but despite them my experience here has been pleasant. I’m a student at UH and I love the location, it’s close to school. I like the fact that they have open floor plans and full size stove. Maintenance at the property does a good job at responding in a timely manner and I haven’t had any issues.
I was a tenant at the residential property on Kewalo Street was disappointed with the customer service of this company. Out of my 9 month lease, 2/3 of it were dealing with renovations of the property. I was not told this when I moved in and I got a wake up call every week day at 7:30am with drilling, sawing, and banging. While dealing with this unpleasantness for months on end the company did nothing to make it more pleasant for the tenants who lived there such as a discount on the insane rent. The company is also horrible at answering the phone. If you call their office in Honolulu you will be lucky to get on answer. Most of my calls were directed to my property manager who NEVER answered her phone. I called during business hours and later in the evening. So if there is any problems I had to leave a message, but don't expect a call back. The property itself is way over priced, quickly renovated (it looks nice at first, until cabinet doors start falling on your head and your window screen pops off letting a family of roaches in to reside in your kitchen.) No air conditioning, which I realize is common in Honolulu but not with the amount of money I gave these people every month. Their form of communication is putting notes on your door. Over all my experience here was horrible and I would not recommend it to anyone unless you are desperate.
Apartments are small. There is no air conditioning or heating like the ad says there is. Your clothes come out of the washer machine dirtier than when you put them in. Water takes up to 30 minutes to heat up. All in all I wish I had more resources so I could move out but looks like Im stuck here for 6 months.
Just moved into my new apartment- first one out of college. It is so great! My building manager is always accessible and super sweet. We had a slight bug problem, but she immediately helped us out. Studio is pet friendly- all the pups here are super sweet. I have great neighbors who helped out with the move. Seriously a wonderful place to live! Mahalo!
