Property Ratings at Lake of the Hills Apartment Homes
I absolutely love where I live. I have done here 14 years and have gone through 3 different managers and maintenance crew. I can tell you that in the past, there has been some random issues. But the owner has done a phenomenal job of stepping in not only resolving issues. He has replaced staff and at one point, also resolved some mechanical issues, I was having , while going above and beyond he replaced all of my appliances. To accommodate for the minor inconveniences I went through. The current manager and maintenance crew have been phenomenal. They are the most responsive, courteous and attention to detailed team I have ever encountered. I have rented from many different complexes. Rented houses and owned a couple houses over my lifetime. And they are the reason why, I not only have been here 14 years but I just signed another 2 years. I have skimmed through quite a few reviews. I see a lot of different negative ones. And I could understand from previous management where frustration might have came from. But I can assure you that. Trisha Property Manager), Rudy (Property Service Manager) and Omar (Owner) have and continue to provide amazing support and have been doing so many improvements and upgrades. This place might look the same on the outside, but on the inside everything has dramatically changed. In fact, because I have been here so long and they have continued to do and make so many improvements, they even offered to upgrade.everything in my apartment without charge. They worked around my schedule so that I could move my furniture out of one room while they replaced the flooring. Then a different day completely replaced my kitchen cabinets, appliances, flooring, as well as both bathrooms, literally everything. I can also assure you that if you do a search for rental cost in the entire greater Lansing area, you will not find this low of pricing, friendly and safe neighborhood, as well as large size apartments anywhere.

Thank you so much for leaving a review! We love when amazing individuals decide to call Lake of the Hills home! Our residents are such a huge part of what makes us special. The team will continue to do their best to make your residency at Lake of the Hills a great one!
If you want a beautiful lake front with mold and ceiling leaks then this is the apartment for you! The management team definitely over promises and under delivers! DO NOT SIGN AND ASK TO TOUR YOUR EXACT APARTMENT!! It's the law, do not sign the move in check list, ask for a hard copy! Trust me, you will be out first months rent if you end up going to court. They cannot make you sign a check in list without seeing the apartment and you CAN see the EXACT apartment you will be living in. Save your money and just go somewhere else.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Our team works hard to provide customers with the best support possible. Leasing site unseen can be difficult, but with our community being fully occupied we do not always have a unit to show. The on-site team has shared with me the background of your residency and we do apologize that your experience did not meet your expectations.
I love my apartment and the nice quiet, friendly neighborhood. Tricia (Property Manager) is always helpful and Rudy (Maintenance Guy) takes care of all issues. I have been here for 2 years and only had to call twice, not bad in my book. I highly recommend this property.
Only doing cosmetic changes. Horrible mold problem! Mice infested in lower level maintenance rooms. Tearing up carpet in common areas but not fixing root problems. Manager is oblivious to these issues or doesn’t care. Black residue coming out of air vents - no concern to management.
I don’t understand the bad reviews, I’ve lived here for a few months now and have absolutely loved it. The Manager Trish is amazing and so helpful and understanding, the apartments are gorgeous and a great price for the size of the huge apartments you get. And if you ever need anything Rudy is always so quick at fixing it!
I'm so lucky to call this place home! Trish, property manager, and Rudy, maintenance supervisor are both super friendly, reliable and helpful--and you can't beat that! There are so many great things about Lake of the Hills - the rent, laundry in home, location (away from the city, but close to everything), views (the lake and walking paths nearby); it just feels right! It's topped with amazing personnel and a great space. It is just the “sweet spot” for this area. I'm thankful to have landed in these quaint and quiet area. I'll know you'll be more than satisfied, too!
They've changed management - and raised rates substantially without any improvements. Apartments are noisy; they won't do anything about noise. Apartments are old, fixtures cheap, the doors in apartments all need replacing. Heating/cooling systems very old and need updating - if ac breaks during summer you are just out of luck, maybe for a long time. The heating costs in winter can be very high. It's not worth it.
Six months ago, I would have said stay away. But now they have new management that is very proactive with genuine care for the residents. The apartments are great with an excellent view of the lake, but when things needing fixing, the past management was unresponsive. New management is very responsive and attentive. So now I would give this a 4.5 rating for sure! Keep up the great work.
I have lived here for a couple years. Amber was amazing but new manager not so much. Manager is NEVER in office. She NEVER answers the phones and doesn't return calls. Once maintenance knows about an issue it gets fixed but they don't find out right away :(. Half the time we don't have notices in a timely manner or at all when water is going to be shut off. Overall there doesn't seem to be a great effort to keep residence happy. It is a beautiful location and I love it here; it's also not cheap. I really hope the owner finds a new manager to make this place great again!!!

In response to your review: We are under new management now as of the end of October and have a great maintenance staff with all the same goals in mind to take care of our residents in a timely manner and show our appreciation. We hope you are noticing our dedication to turning this property around. We love it here!
I've rented a few apartments in my day. This be far has been the best one. The view of the lake was awesome. The rent was reasonable. It had plenty of storage and lots of natural light. The only reason I am moving is because of a new job. Wish I could take my apartment with me. Washer and dryer in unit was also handy.
We moved in mid July and we are still waiting to get the initial problems taken care of. I don't even call the office anymore because Amanda says the problem will get taken care of, but never does. I've walked to the office numerous times and spoke with her personally and I am still waiting to get a window fixed that pours water in when it rains. She said it will take 6 weeks until it gets replaced. Cheap rent, cheaper management.
Trust me there are plenty of other places to rent around the Okemos/Haslett area and you do not want or need the headache. The water is disgusting...turned our shower curtain super scummy after only a few months of living there and it also smelled horrible all the time (not like well water, I know what that smells like). The hot water heathers are all connected so if your neighbor flushes the toilet while you're in the shower it will either turn it boiling hot or stone cold. Good luck EVER getting ahold of the front desk lady, she's never there and never answers the phone. Want something fixed in your apartment? HAHA good luck. I spent almost a month without our washer and had to call the front desk persons boss for her to finally come out and fix it. Our second bedroom toilet was broken for MONTHS before being fixed despite our constant phone calls and voicemails left. You know what we got for all that trouble we had...? $15.... I'm a very chill and understanding person, I also work in an customer service and know how things should be done and how people should be treated...and this is not the way. PLEASE do yourself a favor and do not rent from here.
We live in a 2 bedroom/1 3/4 bathroom apartment. Our apartment has a view of the lake. Even though the part we see looks like a pond, it provides us with many beautiful views as well plenty of wildlife to observe. Our apartment has a lot of storage, but the materials are cheap so things get worn out easily. An example of this is that several of our closet doors will not stay closed because of the springs in them. Lake of the Hills is a fine place to live. It is not extraordinary, but for a generally cheap apartment complex it is well maintained and if a work order is put in they are very timely. The only complaint I have about the management is that the office seems to be closed often when it should be open.
Our family moved to these apartments so that we could be closer to the school. So far it has been perfect! My kids have a ton of room to run around, both inside and out, with a well kept lawn and 3 swimming pools. Our apartment has a ton of storage space, washer and dryer, brand new stove, and hardwood floors. My favorite feature is REAL wood cabinets, not pressed wood with veneer. The leasing manager is so nice, and really makes you feel welcome. I am happy to call this place home.
I have lived in Lake of the Hills community for six years and have lived in two different apartments. The Management and Maintenance departments work well together in getting repairs done in a timely manner. Great exercise walking around the lake wihich lined with trees giving you the feeling of living in a neighborhood not just an "apartment". Cata service is almost at your door. Elementary school within two minute walk. The sign coming in says Welcome Home! Yes most defiantly you will feel You are home. Welcome Home!
My apartment is beautiful, spacious, and very comfortable. I really like having two bathrooms and a washer and dryer right inside the unit. The walk in closet in the master bedroom is huge and can hold all of my clothes and shoes with ease. I am conveniently located near the Meridian Mall and a Walmart Store, Meijer's, and Kroger's. The lake and the swimming pools are very inviting with the hot and humid temperatures we have been experiencing.
Lovely views, open spaces. A dream come true for a small family looking for peace and quiet. The golf course is an added bonus as well as the pools! Convieniently priced, and secluded enough to avoid constant noise yet close enough to shopping districts. Very great place to live!
Overall the apartment is placed somewhere where you're close to everything you need. I definitely feel safe here. Our leasing agent is very understanding and on the ball with everything. The maintenance and up keep is great. Had an issue with a garbage disposal and was replaced within a day. We did a two bedroom two bath and the master bedroom/bath is spacious. I can fit multiple dressers, queen bed and a computer desk in there. Tons of closet space. The second bedroom is definitely for one person, and so is the bath. But it's still pretty spacious. Kitchen is a little small, working on creating more storage space for dry food. Living and dining room is the perfect size. Overall great apartments for the price.
Have lived here for a year now, so I think I can fairly evaluate the pluses and minuses. While I think it's OK, I would've probably moved by now except it's one of the few apartment complexes on this side of town that isn't overrun with MSU students. Pluses - Good value for the money. In a nice area. The lake and the golf course make for nice views. Convenient location to MSU, shopping, etc. Minuses - Apartments are due for some upgrades. They've made some effort here and there, but these places are old and it shows. Virtually all the doors and closet doors look cheap and are in bad shape. Electric bills are very high in the summer due to the ancient, inefficient air conditioners. I'm guessing these are the original units installed in the 70's. Mine runs almost constantly to keep the apartment at 76 degrees. And that's even in the evening when the sun is down. Overall, these places could go from OK to really nice with some updates.
I was looking for a place closer to work than the 3 hours I was driving each day. I looked online and found a lot of good reviews for Lake of the Hills Apartments in Haslett, MI. I went for a visit and was greeting by the friendly complex manager. She showed me a couple units. I was amazed by this place. It site on a lake, a golf course, and has three, yes three, pools. I moved in a week later and have loved it. I don't have any rude, loud, or obnoxious neighbors. They open the door for you when your hands are full of groceries. I aw one guy offer to take two ladies he didn't know who had missed the bus over to Meijer to do their shopping. The apartments are nice and I can't hear my neighbors in their own apartments. No bugs. Maintenance is very capable and quick to respond. Last winter they swapped out my furnace/AC unit because they noticed it wasn't being very efficient for me. I didn't have to ask. They did it one day while I was at work. Definitely recommend LotH highly.
Beautiful place to live, but its been frustrating to have to keep calling maintenance back for the same problem.
The location is excellent, surrounded by nature at its best. Peaceful and serene living, private fishing lake for residents and a 3-par golf course with outdoor in-ground pool. Management and Maintenance are superb. The community amenities are great and rent is affordable. I highly recommend this community.
upon moving into lake of the hills, I didn't know what to expect because I haven't lived in a apartment in a long time, Amber made sure everything was great, I love living here everybody I encounter is so nice and so welcoming and warm. Amber goes above and beyond to make sure your comfortable and all your needs are met, she's easy to talk to and very understanding, she's the most lovable person that you will ever met, she make the community love able and friendly and very family oriented, let's not leave the maintenance staff out there awesome as well, everyone get along like one big family, I would recommend everyone to come and try out lake of the hills community.
I love my apartment at Lake of the Hills. The apartment is comfortable with lots of storage space. The washer and dryer in my unit are excellent. The lake is beautiful and the complex is perfect for walking, biking, and golfing. A serene setting minutes from shopping and other attractions. Amber in the leasing office takes care of any concerns or questions quickly, completely, and with a smile!
Apartments very clean and storage space is amazing.love it
Lake of the hills are very clean apartment s and very spacious, management personnel arid wonder,I have lived here for over 7 years and and love it here.
We have lived here a Lake of the Hills for 3 years now and it has been the best choice I could've made. The community at Lake of the Hills is very family friendly, lots of kids for my grandsons to play with when they visit. The pool is always kept clean and makes for alot of fun. It is also very nice to have the par 3 golf course here in the community as well, when you need some exercise. The apartment it self is well kept and if you ever do have a issue get ahold of Amber the manager, and Chase the maintenance guy will get it resolved Asap. I could not aske for more out of a community! I am glad we decided to make Lake of the Hills our home!
I'm a open space and scenery junkie so I love the lake and the golf course scenery. My neighbors are friendlier than at other places I've lived at and the office and maintenance staff are pleasant as can be. Only drawback is that its not a brand new but my apartment is updated and my hallway has some new carpet. I elected to have a washer and dryer in my unit which is a great amenity. They work good enough, but I have to put in a smaller load unfortunately. Overall I'm really happy I chose to live here. Not perfect but pretty good :)
The Lake view from my balcony itself is priceless! The apartment is very spacious, except the kitchen. Mine is updated. My neighbors are not just neighbors but my friends! My 2 year old loves Lake and the park we walk to and the 3 pools! Staff is always having a community event of some kind! Thanks.
I've lived here for a month. I really feel at home when I get home from work. I moved from a house in the West side of the state. I am much more comfortable here. The community is great. The lake and golf course I'm between is very tranquil. Cost of living is tremendous. I'm very happy and would recommend Lake on the Hills to anyone.
This is a very nice area. I have a 2 bedroom looking out onto the lake at a pretty reasonable price. The manager, Amber is always helpful and friendly. Any maintenance requests are dealt with promptly. There are a few minuses, though. These apartments are old and really show it in places. The hallway in my building is very dingy. When I first visited, my first thought was no way am I living here. But the apartment itself was pretty nice with that great view. But over time, I have gotten tired of coming up through that hall. It desperately needs new carpet, lighting, paint, etc. It also seems like the air conditioner is over the hill too. It takes hours to cool this 945 sq ft apartment down just 2 degrees. The appliances aren't energy star either, so between that and the AC, I expect I'm paying a lot extra in electric bills. Overall, nice area and OK apartment for the price, but the buildings are overdue for some much needed upkeep.
I only visited and the staff person was very nice. It is my hope to be able to find a unit in this area, and this property is my first choice.
The complex is quiet, well taken care of, inviting and the staff is friendly and very nice. Recently, the staff held a breakfast so that other tenants could meet each other. Very nice thing to do.
I lived there for a year, last year. The office staff including the new manager (amber) is great. The super is a cool guy. They address the issues promptly (if any). Maintenance is efficient. although the units are not super new, they are nicely maintained and cleaned. Acceptable size golf course, swimming pools (i never used). good neighborhood, no noise, safe. Overall, if I have to go back to lansing and look for an apartment for about 550-700 range, I would definitely go to Lake of the Hills.
Lake of the hills is a great place to live for the money. I love living here. I have two full bathrooms which is perfect for me and my son and when I have company over. There is a ton of storage in the apartment, I have new appliances, new carpet and I got an accent wall painted before I moved in. My son and I love the lake and the pool! Haslett has great schools and the neighborhood is a perfect fit for me! I got a safe and secure apartment for a good price! The manager was very helpful with my application and moving in and the maintenance is quick. I get my issues resolved right away. I looked at several places in this area and lake of the hills was my first choice!
I knew from the moment I rented at Lake of the Hills it was a bad idea. The apartment was worn, the halls were dirty and the laundry rooms a joke. However since I was in a pinch I decided to give it a shot.. Biggest mistake I've ever made! I had better apartments when I was in college living cheap. Between the kids sneaking around the side of my apartment to smoke and the trash all over the grounds it at first was only going to be a bad dream. However a few weeks into my stay I found out that I have fleas! Not just one or two bugs but hundreds were found in the carpet.. What does the apartment manager say when I confront her? "Oh we thought we got them all" How do you live with yourself renting apartments infested with fleas? The maintenance man, as unprofessional as he looks was the only thing good about the place however his response was to use bug bombs instead of replacing the carpet or getting Terminx in. I would avoid this place unless you are interested in starting a 'flea' market...
I rent a two bedroom and two bathroom apartment on the lake side. The view here is terrific and you could enjoy quiet and peaceful neighborhood. There are also some disadvantages. The inside furnishment is kinda of worn. And the small bedroom is really small.
I wanted to be in the Haslett area, with less traffic and congestion, with beautiful scenery, and Lake Of The Hills did this for. The apartment buildings themselves are not brand new but most everything in the interior of the apartment has been updated like the kitchen and bathrooms, carpet, and the building common area hallways. I haven't lived here long enough to have used the pools, but they have 3 of them! And a huge fishing Lake! Like anything, there's some negatives like the age of the buildings, but I looked at a lot of places and this was the ONLY one in the area that had a 2 bedroom 2 full bath floor plan which is great for me and my 9 year old son. I would recommend living here.
