Property Ratings at Lake Street Apartments
Lived there for 2 years (2020-2022) okay place. The bathroom was almost unusable because of the constant leaks (couldn’t shower in my apartment for a month, had to use a friends) the pool was never open which was kinda lame, and the water almost never gets hot. Minor issues that added up to make one big inconvenience. Wouldn’t say DO NOT move in, but wouldn’t recommend it. On top of all this. The landlord kept the $800 security deposit because I left a strip of tape on the carpet that just “could not come off”
My favorite part of living here is the grounds. Right next to these beautiful woods with trails for hiking and biking-- great place to photograph deer. Kids sometimes use the woods as a shortcut to the local elementary school. My least favorite part of living here is the sink drains and the heat. Drains are skinny (or maybe rusty?) and get clogged somewhat easily. Heat needs to be turned slightly higher to completely heat apartment to the temp on the dial. Sometimes the electric bill is a surprise. I put rolled-up towels along the windows and that's keeps the heat in well. Also the heating is somewhat loud, which can be startling if you're a light sleeper. Other notes: -No problems with pests, which is a step up from some other local apartments. -Louann, the apartment manager, is friendly and responsive to problems -Right on the 40 bus line, convenient -Easy walk or bike to the Acme / DrugMart plaza -Not overly loud, but, you know. It's apartments, not the fortress of solitude. I've never had a problem, but I do sometimes wear earplugs when trying to sleep. -Pool is clean and fun in the summer -Safe in terms of crime, very low/no crime area -Slightly less safe in terms of kids who sometimes dart into the parking lot in front of cars. Just about gave me a heart attack. -Many smoke-free apartment options -Not many wheelchair accessible apartment options, unfortunately -Took Covid safety precautions seriously in 2020 w/r/t communal spaces
As with most apartment complexes, you're at risk of having neighbors with zero self-awareness or care that they are blasting music in a place with mediocre floors and walls. What's beyond reprehensible however, is when I have to ask a neighbor two or three times to turn their music down and the landlord 1. texts my roommate telling me to stop "bothering the neighbors" and 2. goes ahead and discloses said neighbors medical condition to guilt me for making a reasonable request. She had the nerve to say that I would "probably only have to deal with it for a few more weeks" after I called her about it. I have never been more disgusted with a landlord in my life and to this day I still feel sick knowing that my neighbor has passed away and she just viewed the entire situation like an inconvenience. I did speak with management who handled the thing more professionally but there is no way I will be renewing my lease here.
Place is horrible. Managements would ignore my phone calls and instantly answer when I called on my fiancés phone. Owner is even worse, wanted me to testify in court on another tenants eviction due to their complete incompetence.
I absolutely love living here. There is families, and college kids. Its nice and quiet place. Maintenance & Landlord staff is happy to help quickly if needed on my apartment. They have a pool its nice when its open its for people who live there only with 2 guests. Which is nice. They will kick you out if you dont live here and dont have a tenant with you. Great locations to everything. If you have an emergency the police with be there in 2 minutes or less.
I have lived in Lake Street Apartments since 2016. I got it as my first apartment and have been completely comfortable with my one-bedroom. The neighbors are quiet and keep to themselves and it's always safe. I can leave packages out and sit outside at night and not have to worry. Things here are not modern by any means but the environment is cozy and cutely dated. I live on the bottom floor and I hardly hear any noise. Management is always working on restoring something little at a time which is to be expected I think. The landlord is hardly around but you can always call her anytime and she's usually not far away. The only major complaint I have is parking lot conditions are tight and could be plowed better in the winter. I definitely recommend this complex to anyone looking for a first apartment and a great neighborhood.
This apartment is 10 minutes from Kent state campus, and surrounded by a great school system, but since it holds majority college students sometimes you hear the loud music, and smell of marijuana coming into your place. The staff is nice but depending on the severity of your concern it may take a while to be resolved. My longest Wait was 2 months for a new towel rack that broke. Hope this helps someone.
