Scio dates back to 1835, but the reason behind the name is a mystery. The early township records were destroyed in a fire, so the reasons the name was chosen remain a mystery. Some believe it is named for the Greek island of Chios -- the town was apparently named shortly after the US established diplomatic relations with Greece after their War of Independence, which ended in 1830. However it was named, Scio is one of the largest towns in the county and is situated west of Ann Arbor. Its location along the Huron River makes Scio a popular destination, offering beautiful riverfront parks.
Apartments in Ann Arbor Scio provide easy access to downtown and the University of Michigan. This neighborhood offers two top-rated school systems -- Ann Arbor and Dexter. Dexter-Huron Metropark, a wooded, 122-acre park, features picnic areas, a playground, ball fields, fishing, and a canoe launch.

Property Ratings at Lakestone Apartments
We have not seen our manager, leasing person or had any form or regular maintenance since Covid started other than taking frequent smoke breaks outside of the locked office building. The phone is rarely answered. Our pool never opened and they claim they have no money to fix anything other than "emergency" maintenance. Our maintenance guy rides around the property on his 4-wheeler doing nothing. There is garbage all over the grounds and he does nothing about picking it up. We used to have a monthly newsletter and now we've got nothing. You pay a lot of money for apartments that are falling apart around you, awful service, and garbage strewn all over the place. Our maintenance guy can't tell a cricket from a cockroach and forget about getting any kind of help with those "crickets". Avoid this places at all costs.
Property Manager at Lakestone Apartments, Responded To This Review
Lakestone takes pride in its property and maintenance staff. Per our company directive, the Lakestone pool and amenities were closed this season for the health and safety of all of our residents and staff members. Per our company directive, the Lakestone maintenance staff is only completing emergency work orders in our resident apartments at this time for the health and safety of our residents and our staff members. If you have a maintenance request please e-mail us at Lakestoneapts@mccormackbaron.com. If the request is an emergency we will respond immediately. If the request is a routine maintenance request the Lakestone maintenance staff will complete the request as soon as they are able to go back into resident apartments. Lakestone does distribute a quarterly newsletter to all of its residents. Thank you for reaching out.
Lakestone apartments used to be a beautiful place to live but with new management it has really sunk to new low levels. Ceilings are leaking and not getting fixed. There are mold problems from hot water tanks leaking. The grounds used to be beautiful but no one is taking care of the gardens anymore. The gardens have more weeds than flowers and look run down. You pay all your own utilities here and the windows and doors leak big time which causes you to have to pay huge AC bills in the summer and huge heat bills in the winter. Mice are a big problem although my cats do appreciate that built in feature. Management rarely ever leaves the office and the only part of the complex that is truly well kept is that office. One maintenance guy is really good but he can't keep up 144 units himself especially when the new management refuses to invest any money in the complex so he is left trying to fix old broken utilities by getting parts from other broken down appliances. New management has jacked the rent up and most people who have lived here a long time are getting out. This is one place that you really don't get what you pay for.
Prior to our new ownership, I would have given Lakestone 5 star rating. We were just bought by a for profit company that is notorious for buying mixed income communities and then pricing them to the max. This year my rent is going up a whopping $285 or 33% with 30-60 days notice. New management does not care that they are losing long term tenants. I have a meticulous record of paying rent for the decade I've lived here. I've never been late once yet they would rather see me leave, flip my apartment and take a chance on some other tenant. The windows need to be replaced and always have yet new management informed me that they are not investing in Lakestone. The ceiling in my apartment has leaked 5 times in the last year due to my upstairs neighbor but I've been told to live with it. The location is nice and maintenance is great but management could care less about us. I'm getting absolutely nothing but a 33% rent increase. My apartment has been untouched for 8-9 years but when I asked for the upgrades that other apartments have, management tells me " The ownership isn't planning on any type of renovation to the apartments at Lakestone at this time". Run as fast as you can away from this place.
