The northern Austin suburb of Highland has seen a lot of recent development in the last few years. What was once an area of mid-century homes and a mall has become a community of diverse housing options and is home to a vibrant community college campus. Solar panels are a common site on renovated ranch-style homes, as are a number of new apartment complexes.
You’ll find plenty of dining options on North Lamar Blvd., including poke, ramen, and the country cooking at Threadgill’s. The Linc is a popular open-air mall on the eastern border of the area that houses an upscale movie theater, big-box stores, and some popular local eateries too. The Highland campus of Austin Community College helped revitalize the area and adds to the area’s already highly-rated school system.
Highland has become an increasingly popular community due to the recent developments as well as the commute times. The drive to Downtown Austin takes just around 20 minutes with the I-35 and Airport Blvd.

Property Ratings at Lamar Place Apartments
We've lived in the "Crockett" building for almost a year now. Overall I think this is a good place to live, when we moved in the units were just renovated so everything was stylish and lovely. It's definitely a "just paint over it" type place however. Interesting thing to note is that the granite in the kitchen and the bathroom isn't sealed so if you put down something wet the counter absorbs it and turns darker. It goes away, but I think that anyone other than the first person who lives there will have dirty countertops as they weren't sealed to last. Maintenance is always timely and on top of things, but management lately has been in flux. There's been some issues with leasing agents not being able to find packages until you really really press and then magically they appear! Pools are tiny and not well maintained and our building "Crockett" sits on a coul- de- sac directly next to a car shop that is frequently playing loud music and is open late into the night. There's a lot of interesting folks hanging around and we've had to the police pounding on neighbors' doors several times. I don't feel safe jogging or taking a walk which is a huge bummer. Bottom line: The inside of the apartment is very nice for the price point, but the neighborhood and neighbors don't feel very safe. The outdoor stairs are also on their last leg with eroded metal.
Very convenient location since I am attending UT. I really appreciate all the help and patience the staff had prior to my move in. I was debating between 3 other apartments and the ladies in the office were so nice I decided to go with Lamar Place. The apartment I am in has granite countertops and stainless steal appliances, the pools look nice and the whole area looks clean.
I recently renewed my lease at Lamar Place, and the new ladies in the office were super friendly and helpful. The apartments aren't brand new, but it's a nice, quiet area and my neighbors are great. A friend of mine moved to one of the upgraded units, which looks really nice. Good bang for your buck!
My children and I have just moved here and we are very happy. Before coming to Lamar place I had been incredibly frustrated by the apartment hunting process; Ashisha in the office here was a breath of fresh air. She was enthusiastic, prompt and accommodating. Many other property management offices were unresponsive or very difficult to reach. Ashisha returns my emails immediately and responds to my questions with kindness. Being a single parent has a lot of challenges, and I was relieved that finding a new place to live didn't have to be one of those challenges this time around. Our apartment is clean, my family enjoys the pool and the area is very convenient for our lifestyle.
Been here 8 weeks now and no complaints so far. Neighbors are nice and mind their own business. Office staff was great during move in but have not had needed to contact them since. Haven't seen any insects inside. Parking lots were repaved and some major landscaping improvements just since I have moved in. Plenty of parking. Clean and safe. Nice pools, but too cold to swim.
In the year that I've lived here I've had mixed experiences. The building was going under major improvements, transition of owners and staff turnover. The building has been getting the attention it needs. There are new decks, the pool is super clean, the parking lot is newly paved and their is more attention given to the outside appearance. Although, when the building was sold there was no communication or advance notice to the tenants. The new owners are working hard to operate a more responsive and respectable building. The communication we receive is polite, to the point and sent via phone or email. Ashisha, who works in the main office is wonderful and makes it easy to show up in person with questions. The other new staff is somewhat approachable.
Really professional and friendly management, make the process of moving in really easy and even come to open the office if requested when it’s closed Definitely recommend, the apt are nice and clean
I've been at the Crockett building for 3 years now and have been disappointed with the management team before the new one took over. I want to specifically point out Ashisha, who's been a rock star with following up and making sure that my work orders have been taken care of. They're making significant improvements and which I'm glad to see. I hope they work on the laundry room next!
My experience since I've moved here has been great. If I ask for something to be done in my apartment it gets done in a good time frame. The property is under new management and new staff, which I am happy about. I have also noticed that property is getting so much better meaning the pools look really nice and the landscaping is looking a lot better. The property is very lit up at night which makes me feel secure. The upgraded apartment I live in is awesome. My family really likes the microwave and the granite counter tops. Over all I would recommend this apartment complex.
The new management that took over a couple of months ago has already made a big difference. You can see the improvements happening and it seems that they are much more responsive to maintenance calls than the previous management. The pools are sparkling clean for the first time since we have lived here and I can see that they are installing really nice granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances in many apartments. I'm so glad that the management is improved since you can't beat the location.
Worst apartment ever! The basics: - They just fired half the office for not doing their job. The manager that got me into the apt was fired due to not turning in work orders. - Took them a year to fix my moldy-leaky a/c unit - Their security is a joke and I constantly have homeless in the pool and laundry room. - I have to drive a mile away just to go to a laundry mat so I can get a decent wash without worrying about a card reader not working or soap residue being left behind. - There are constantly cops and drama happening (Someone got shot two doors from me and they said it wasn’t an issue so I couldn’t opt out) - Pest and water damage due to apartment coming apart from heavy rain water. I have brown residue coming out of my braker box that they said isn’t an issue - I could go on and on, but you get it... If I had more time and money, I wouldn’t of considered this place. It was definitely last resort and I regret it. Please DO NOT MOVE HERE!
