Newark’s dominant landmark and cultural hub is undeniably the University of Delaware campus, where the student body nearly matches the city’s population of permanent residents. Accordingly, many of the community’s resources are tailor-made for the collegiate crowd: an eclectic mix of restaurants and nightlife venues lines Main Street on the north side of campus, and affordable apartments are easy to find anywhere in town.
Despite the fact that it is primarily a college town, Newark maintains a diverse population with rental options available to suit any lifestyle. The sprawling nature preserves that border the northern end of the city provide gorgeous settings for hiking, camping, canoeing, and simply enjoying the great outdoors. Just thirty minutes from Wilmington, Newark also makes an excellent home base for commuters.

Property Ratings at Liberty Pointe
Smoke from neighbors' apartments will pour into your apartment, thru the doors, walls, utility closets, irritating your throat and eyes. Don't move here if you don't want to smell cigarette or other smoke.

I am a new resident at Liberty Pointe Apartments. I recommend viewing the actual unit you will be renting otherwise you may be unpleasantly surprised. I have lived here for only a couple of days and here are some observations : -Dead bugs in every room upon move-in. -Holes in the wall -Very filthy kitchen cabinets with black stains -Damaged kitchen cabinets -Equally filthy cabinets in the bathrooms -Stained bathroom cabinets -Unsightly floors in the kitchen and bathroom. I could actually see sand and filth. -Maintenance not responsive. -Smelly shared spaces/entrances. Already looking forward to moving out. I should have believed the other reviewers.
First of all these building were built in the 60s and nothing has been renovated. Even the renovated units are barely renovated. The yards are filled with dog poop, trash is always overflowing and the people are just plain rude. The maintenance takes forever and usually doesn't fix things, just puts a band aid on it. The office staff MY GOD don't even get me started, although they did recently get new management and new staff (for the second or third time). I've complained multiple times about bugs in my unit and snakes in the building and nothing can be done. I also didn't get a basket when I moved in like the review below, that's the least they could have done after the horrid experience living here.

This place must be the worst place to live. My husband I decided to move in to Liberty Pointe and was recommended by the staff to apply online to save some money. The original staff we met at the site was pleasant and kind. We didn't know at the time of application we missed some information for them to run our credit. I admit that was our fault. Next day which was Friday 4pm I received the angry phone call from the staff name Esmeralda. She stated she liked to run our credit in the morning but because of our mistake she couldn't run it. I apologized and offer to bring the info she needs or e-mail them to her. Then she stated that apparently I don't understand how to rent the apartment and holding the apartment too long for other potential tenant so I should withdraw the application. First of all, in the office they told me that they are not going to hold the room unless they run our credit so apply quickly. But I didn't want to live there anymore after speaking to her so I withdraw the application and never call back again. If she can talk like that to the potential tenant, I don't want to know how she speak to the actual tenant who wants something fix in their apartment. I am sure not everybody in the office is rude and condescending as her. Just make sure to ask for somebody else.
I was a previous resident of university village apartments and leased the apartments from 9/9/2014- 9/8/2015 and gave a proper notice before vacating the apartment and vacated the apartments in time. But now after 1 year that is in November 2016 I get a call from collections agency that " you have not given a proper notice before vacating the apartment so the university village apartments or liberty pointe apartments had put a fine on you of $1950.00 ". When I am trying to call them since 2 months nobody answers the call and neglect the issue. THESE GUYS ARE CHEATERS.
The only thing good about this place is that Its close to stores and it has a washer and dryer. We found a snake in our apartment and it took maintenance over three hours to come. The management are rude and it take months to get anything fix. There were bats always in our building. I regret moving here.
Overall, very clean apartments. Washer & dryer in unit is a plus. Close to shopping, grocery stores, etc. The reason why I'm giving this apartment complex a negative review is because I went to see the apartment & the lady who helped me was very nice but they ran my credit without me paying the application fee for the application OR giving money for them to hold an apartment for me of which I never technically applied for! I filled out an app & had forget my wallet at work so I still filled out an application & I advised the leasing consultant I would be back the following day with the money for my application fee. I didn't actually go back there but weeks later a hard inquiry hit my credit from them! BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Imagine coming home from work to no parking spots and having to park 5 buildings away, when you finally get to your door and after putting the code in repeatedly 10 times, walking up the stairs into an array of spider webs and weird bugs you've never seen into an apartment with a flooded kitchen because your dishwasher leaks, even though it has supposedly been fixed twice. I moved in about 7 months ago and loved it, until about after a week. Lets start with the fact there's been a giant black snake in the building on multiple occasions and any time you call maintenance it takes them about a week to come. While I'm on the maintenance topic lets talk about how there's one maintenance person for the two complexes the company owns that are about 20 mins apart. The maintenance man comes to fix things then they break again within that same week. When we moved in we also filled out the paper with all the things that were already broken and none of them have been fixed. I've had multiple packages stolen from in front my door and once by someone in the leasing office. Next is the dangerous showers! Only turn on the hot water if you're ready to have your skin burned off, theres no hot cold or warm it's just hot, and it unexpectedly gets hotter on it's own often during the shower. They also don't mention that you can hear the traffic on I-95 all day as if you're right there in your car. I can't even have any of my windows open and not just because of the noise but because theres like 5 wasp nests right next to it. Also there's about a 4 inch opening at the bottom of every apartment door and I can smell everything my neighbors cook, smell, smoke it's one of the most annoying parts of living here. There's only one decent person who works here, you'll probably never see the "manager" though.
I moved in 2 months ago and the customer service is always great. I think the leasing consultant is funny and positive and the manager knows her stuff but is usually straight to the point. I like the fact that they have drawings every month with fun goodies if you pay your rent on time. I like it her honestly, some people usually like to down a property because of the people but I don't let the people influence my home and way of living. Also I got a move-in basket full of useful things, so I cleaned my new home with everything that it contained and there was candy too..so I ate the candy when I was done cleaning :) Made sense.
Constant drug dealing happening outside of my complex...Constant. I see it every time I exit my building. Some are residents and some aren't. I called the office and they brushed it off and made me feel stupid for even calling about it.
Let me start with management..They do not get ANYTHING done. You have an issue in need of fixing, loud neighbor, people smoking in the building..sorry they can't help you. The only good person on the staff is the maintenance man, he is professional and polite. But, poor guy never gets your work order for weeks because of management...They will lie and say the will handle something but don't and when you call back they have no idea what you are talking about. They just simply do not care. The complex itself...WHAT A JOKE. There are GIANT pot holes all over, good luck not popping a tire. The buildings are dirty and the steps are falling apart. My building constantly smells like pot and cigarettes but the office can't do anything about that apparently. There isn't enough parking AT ALL..my car has acquired a lot of scratched and dents. Mind you guys this is only being here for less than 6 months!!! LEASE WITH CAUTION. Yes, you get what you pay for but in my opinion, the amount we pay to be here is too much for this place.
