Property Ratings at Liberty Square Apartments
This place is great if you get lucky with an apartment with no issues. There is a great community and I have made some friends here. HOWEVER, be warned if anything goes wrong it will be hell on earth trying to get it fixed. Maintenance is quick to respond but only uses temporary measures to fix stuff. Since we moved in our toilet has been broken where the tank doesn't flush properly and it has been "fixed" multiple times. Most egregiously our sink got coggled in a way where if we used it or the dishwasher about half an hour later both the hallway by the bedrooms and the kitchen would flood with wastewater. It took them four days to resolve the issue in which our apartment was flooded on and off with wastewater and we couldn't use our dishwasher or kitchen sink. Maintenance guys would come every day to fix it and we were told a plumber would come at one point. To make a long story short a plumber never came and while the problem seems to be fixed for know our flooring is still soaked with wastewater that sinks and is wet when stepped on. The people in the office are friendly and great but do not have any power to get anything done. I will keep updating this review as the situation progresses.
I’m not one looking to write bad reviews, but I feel like it’s my place to give people a heads up about living here. The apartment is small not in good shape. The carpets are old and covered in stains, the ceiling leaks, they don’t turn the a/c on for most of the year, and the water only works half the time. Parking is not good unless you have a parking pass with them which is another extra $20 or $30 a month. The management is shady to say the least. They were not very helpful when it came to selling my contract. They also told me initially that only $100 of my $400 deposit would be refunded to me when I sold my contract. When I pried they told me that they would actually give me $200 back. I had to ask some serious questions and bring up sections in the lease in order for them to be honest with me about where the money was going. I hope that they aren’t shorting every college student $100 or more if they don’t press them about it. I hope this was helpful. I don’t plan on referring anyone I know here until some serious changes are made.
I guarantee you and your friends can finds somewhere better for cheaper. Plus they force you to sign a year round contract. If you object, they like to encourage you by saying it will be easy to sell the spring/summer part of the contract because these apartments are so popular, but that is a bull-faced lie. About 3/4 of the guys in my ward wanted to move out in the summer for internships or job opportunities outside of Provo/Utah. 1 or 2 guys got lucky enough to sell their contracts (by paying the guys who eventually bought them.) A bunch of guys moved but weren't able to sell and they had to just pay the remainder of the year's rent as sunken costs, and the rest of us just had to suck it up and live here for the summer. Also, they kick you out a week before finals for the summer term, so even if you resign to staying in Provo and you want to take classes, you are screwed for finals week unless you want to give up even more money just to stay just a few days longer. And to make things worse, the wifi went out during one of the finals weeks, and they took 48 hours to get it fixed. Also, the walkway/stairs leading up to our doors is very disgusting and never clean. And if you fail cleaning checks, they will charge you to send a professional to clean your apartment, but they will never actually send a professional to clean your apartment. Very crappy ownership that takes advantage of students ever since Liberty took over. Renting here is a bad financial decision.
Mismanaged and full of hidden fees, my time dealing with the Liberty Square management was a complete headache. They made everything difficult--from cleaning checks to roommate resolution. Steer clear of Liberty Square and you'd be doing yourself a favor, the rent is overpriced for what you get and the apartments are not ideal. Worst of all, most of my roommates had issues with lost contracts or checks and the whole thing was a complete nightmare.
Horrible apartments. Mold in the ceiling, terrible customer service (Steve). There was a gas leak, tons of hidden fees, toilets stopped working, the water got turned off, they send in maintenance workers in the early morning without notice. I guess the landlords are just a bunch of greedy jerks.
This is a nice apartment. The first thing that sticks out is that it is maintained well. It has been renovated somewhat recently, the apartment is pretty nice. The carpet, bedroom space, kitchen space, and living area are all above par. The management is much better than other places nearby. They are timely with requests and understand much about college life. One aspect that can either be a positive or a negative is that Liberty Square is a social hub, so often the complex is pretty noisy into the night. It's fun, unless you go to bed earlier in the evening. It's an adequate apartment for a BYU student.
A great place to socialize, and make friends. With an awesome atmosphere and lots of activities to do. One of the best places I've lived at.
