Starkville is what you’d call a college town for sure. Home to a large student population focused on academics and sports, this city also houses numerous apartments near cool amenities. As you probably guessed, the gem of Starkville is Mississippi State University which is surrounded by bars, mom-and-pop eateries, boutiques, and bookstores.
When you live in Starkville, you’ll notice when the entire community gears up for game day. “Hail State” is a common greeting that echoes throughout the town, and it’s safe to say that a great deal of the community revolves around college sports like football. Locals, alumni, and visitors alike are often tailgating before a big game. On game day eves, New South Weekends in Starkville offer tons of activities from wine tastings to block parties.
MSU and surrounding neighborhoods have a lot of art and culture offerings. The Lyceum Series, presented by the university, features concerts, dance recitals, and musicals throughout the year.

Property Ratings at The Grand at Starkville
The staff was really nice. The communication was great during the move in process. However, communication about the said apartment I was renting wasn't forthcoming. Again, great professionalism hope the same professionalism remains regarding my issues and concerns

I’d say that the office staff does seem very accommodating; they helped make sure that I could get an early move in date; however, there are a few issues like maintenance issues, and I was told before moving in that they’d be able to store the mattress and the desk (seeing as I already have those items). Upon moving in, I was told it’s not possible which is a little frustrating and taking up half my closet and room space. Other than that, it seems okay so far.

However, we apologize for the misunderstanding regarding storage for your personal items. As for maintenance issues, please do not hesitate to bring it up so we could address them promptly. We hope you'll continue enjoying your stay in our property despite these initial hiccups.
The Grand is one of the nicest, affordable, well secured, professional establishments I have been to yet! They accommodate to everyone and don’t leave you hanging when you know how to do something. They always offer help and always contributing to building a community within The Grand by having multiple community events throughout the year at NO costs to the attendees.

It's also great to know you enjoy the community events we host - they're fantastic opportunities for building bonds between our renters. Thank you so much for sharing your positive feedback!
Having lived in this apartment complex for a year now I can confidently say that the property is nice but if something does go wrong it takes forever for anything to get fixed. Also it feels like the grass is never consistently mowed and my rent is way too high for that.
Property Manager at The Grand at Starkville, Responded To This Review
We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you've experienced. We're striving to improve maintenance response times and will certainly look into the landscape upkeep inconsistency that you've mentioned. Regarding your rent, we aim to provide a high-quality living experience that aligns with our pricing, but understand if it feels disproportionate - we'd value the opportunity to discuss this further with you.

I loved living here. Great community and with friendly neighbors. I wish there were not all those speed bumps. However, some of the issues that were present were there before move in and maintenance was not very helpful for some things. There were 2 different maintenance experiences, one where they did the bare minimum and one where they went above and beyond. When I moved in none of the outlets or bathroom lights worked and it took them 1 month to finally fix it after I had put in several requests and calls.

These apartments have been very nice the three years I have been here. They keep them well cleaned and the apartments up to date. Probably the best student apartments in Starkville.

The grand is really a great apartment unit. One of my only downsides are no one bedrooms honestly or I would still live here. The units are well furnished and taken care of.

I love living here but there are a few things that are annoying. For example half of the machines at the gym don’t work, and the coffee machine is always down.
I lived here for a year, and it wasn’t as bad as the other reviews say… at least for me. I lived in a 5br/6b at the back of Aspen and I enjoyed it for the most part. Pros: perfect situation for a bunch of friends to live together, fully furnished, cheap, somewhat close to campus, great pool/gym Cons: we saw some crazy bugs, parking sucks, towing, bad rain drainage, party central

No discounts or provisions for COVID and early move out. Unclean on move in with filthy carpets and bathrooms. Constant problems with the air conditioner. No alternate check out measures for contact less check out during COVID resulting in local management refusing walk through inspections with residents. All in all, bad experience, mis handled check outs and ultimately costing the consumer extra $$$.
This place is not well run AT ALL. If you talk to three different people you will get three different answers. The young people in the office are certainly friendly, but the adult property management employees are awful. They have zero empathy and aren't willing to do much to resolve problems, even if they are responsible for the issues. The apartments themselves are fine. They're large and look ok. However, when we moved in the apartment was filthy and we had to spend several hours dusting and cleaning. Also, some of our furniture was missing. My friend found the pieces in the attic and we moved them down, but the apartment complex apparently wasn't even aware our furniture was incomplete at move-in time. There is a gate but it wasn't managed properly until after a few crimes had been committed at the complex. After that, the residents were the ones punished because the process to have guests became difficult. Additionally, your one permanent guest pass doesn't work on game day weekends unless you pay an additional $25. I would not recommend these apartments, not because of the complex itself but because of the poor management.
Couldn’t find a more dishonest or unempathetic apartment complex if you tried. They can give you more roommates than bedrooms and the move-out charges are a scam. As soon as I refuted my move-out charges, they dropped the bill $175 because they couldn’t find pictures to support their claim. I mailed back my keys and other move-out items well ahead of time, but the United States Postal Service returned it to me months later stating it was “unclaimed.” I FedExed it back the next day with the same, correct address and emailed the Assistant GM explaining the situation. She said I would still be charged $180 for the move-out items they received because they weren’t returned by the deadline. I took this a step further and emailed the CEO explaining the whole situation, but weeks later and he still hasn’t replied. Aspen Heights’ responses to negative reviews are fake and merely an attempt to save face. I wouldn’t be writing this review if they were as responsive as they claim to be and as remotely understanding as they expect you to be. Please save yourself from the same mistake and stay anywhere else.
Aspen Starkville will not respond to emails, phone messages, and tries to hold you up. Inside job stole from all three roommates. Agree on the gouged at move out. I'm an OCD cleaner and it was left spotless. How are the showing five stars.
Save your money and rent elsewhere. Always, Always, and I mean Always check with the Better Business Bureau before renting from an out of state establishment, ESPECIALLY when you see rooms advertised all over social media sites, there may be some issues. Usually, where there is smoke, there is fire. Don't get burned, save your money and rent local...
Aspen over charges you and completely rips you off the entire time you stay there. Customer service is horrible too
I recently have lived with Aspen for 2 years, my last month of rent they hit me with a ton of charges saying that I didn't pay my rent onetime, when in fact it has never been late, I have it set to come out automatically every month, yet I get a $50 late fee, that they would not give back or remove. Also every week they give prizes out, but the only folks who seem to win them are the sorority/ frat people, hmmm... I loved our house because of roommates, but if you live on a budget like most college kids do, I wouldn't recommend them, they love getting all they can from you with not a care about you.
Be prepared to pay at least an extra month's rent on move-out. Aspen Heights will charge you for basic cleaning and maintenance work to get the apartment ready for the next renter. What a deal for them! And what a deceptive and unfair business practice. That's even after we asked the office if there was anything needed to be done in terms of cleaning floors and carpet. What a total lack of integrity.
