Less than 10 minutes east of Downtown Madison sits Marquette-Dane, a historic neighborhood with an energetic commercial center on Williamson Street. When wandering the streets of this area, you see a variety of beautiful homes in the Third Lake Ridge and Marquette Bungalow historic districts. Modern apartments line the streets near Lake Monona too.
Marquette-Dane locals look forward to putting on festivals throughout the year. In June, head over to Yahara Place Park for the Waterfront Festival, where residents gather to decorate their boats and float them along the waterfront. August brings the Orton Park Festival, where you can cheer on local musicians and dancers as they perform for the crowd. Take a break and walk over to Williamson Street to enjoy a tasty scone at Lazy Jane's Cafe and Bakery or play board games at Weary Traveler Freehouse.

Property Ratings at Livingston Place
This apartment is nice, but the noise between the train and the construction makes living here unbearable. The train goes by at all hours of the night. For example, last night it went by at 1:30am and again at 5am, and this is not . And every time the train goes by it sounds it's horn which is extremely loud/startling, and something I can't imagine any person could sleep through. The management is ok, but what frustrated me the most is I was made to believe the train would be a non-issue. I was told the glass windows and sliding door were reinforced to help block out more noise than average glass. I'm pretty sure this was a lie, and even if it wasn't it hasn't helped at all with the trains. I was also told the city was thinking about making Livingston St a dead end at those train tracks so the horn wouldn't have to sound, but in the year I've lived there I haven't heard anything else about that. Although the apartments are nice and a decent value for Madison, I couldn't recommend this place to anyone because of the train that frequently goes by at all hours of the night. Also, the management has had "promotions" where tenants can leave a review and be entered into a drawing for a prize (like half off your rent or something along those lines), so if you see reviews for this place that don't mention the train, that is probably why. If you value sleeping at all I highly recommend looking some place else.
Property Manager at Livingston Place, Responded To This Review
We are so sorry to hear of your negative experience at Livingston Place. We will be checking with the City again about the plan for the street. Our understanding was that it was in the works, but no date was ever given for completion. The windows on the north side of the building are particularly used for urban/loud environments. We've tried to find out a train schedule in order to provide better information to prospects and tenants, but we're told freight trains are not on a schedule. There are multiple tenants in the building who have lived there for five years and tell us they love the apartments, management and location despite the train noise. I truly wish you had the same experience, and I hope we can improve it going forward. We have a program for transferring tenants to other properties in our portfolio. We would be happy to discuss options with you. Please feel free to contact your property manager for more information, if you are interested. We would love to help!
